Our favorite Paso winery is L'Aventure. So for our latest Paso excursion I called L'Aventure and asked for recommendations on what other wineries in Paso we might like. Torrin was one of the wineries that was suggested. So I made an appointment for a Thursday. They do make you pay for the tasting ahead of time which I don't really like and they charge $50 to taste which is on the high side but what can you do? Weather on this trip was perfect, (in the mid 70's), unlike our last trip where it was on the 100's. We pulled in and were immediately greeted by our host Valerie. I had put that we were celebrating my wife's birthday on my reservation so Valerie said, "Happy Birthday", which I appreciated, and our tasting setup had printed cards that had my name on them and also said, "Happy Birthday" A nice touch. The tasting room at Torrin is awesome. Very cool and modern looking. Valerie seated us and proceeded to tell us about Torrin, the winemakers and their philosophy and plans for the winery. Valerie was very friendly and personable and we had a great time with her. She spent almost the entire time with us which is what I really value in a wine tasting experience. That one-on-one connection you get with people that are passionate about wine and want to share that passion with you. We like pretty much everything that we tasted but were especially by the Maven, (95% Grenache 5% Syrah). So we bought a bottle of that. I will say that the wines at Torrin are not inexpensive. Our bottle of Maven was $93. But the wine is certainly delicious and the overall experience at Torrin was exquisite.

Spent the past few days in Paso and had the pleasure of tasting Torrin's wines. This is definitely one of our top two wineries that we visited in Paso after visiting Paso for three years straight. Our host Rick is absolutely outstanding and made the experience very special for my wife and I. His knowledge and great information and stories about the Paso wine background were the cherry on top besides the outstanding wines we tasted at this winery. We're we're blessed with being in Paso during a late harvest. Fruit is currently being picked, and we were blessed to meet the owner/winemaker Scott and his team as they were sorting the clusters and even took the time out of their busy schedule to say hello and let us see how they do their process. Thank you, Torrin Team!

We were lucky enough to be paired with allie. Super friendly, fun knowledgeable and charismatic. She made our wine tasting experience so fun. The wines are fantastic you can tell a lot of heart and soul go into this place, experience and wine making. Absolutely loved the small town vibes but not small town experience of this winery. They also gave us a cute little note on our list of wines for the day. They do not serve food so don't come hungry(unless you are looking to be a cheap date) haha!

Quick Summary Best wine tasting of the weekend for us. Personalized menu card, excellent personal somm that provides you a tour of the facility and guides you through the tasting, and beautiful interior decor. A fantastic wine tasting experience and a must-try in Paso Robles Tasting- 5 stars This was by far my favorite wine tasting. Our somm, Rick, was a great story teller and gave us a vivid history of the winery. He was fantastic with pacing the wines and gave us an entire tour of the facility. It also helps that their wine was fantastic. Fantastic VIP experience throughout. Facilities- 5 stars The tasting room and patio were gorgeous. There wasn't a bad seat throughout the winery. Bottom Line A must-try wine tasting if you're in Paso. Excellent experience throughout

    Beautiful decor, personalized tasting card!

Elegant wines, beautiful tasting room, unpretentious friendly staff! High tasting fee ($40), but worth the experience for wine lovers The experience felt very intimate, with the staff getting to know you, talk through the personal stories of each wine, and answer any sorts of questions with judgment. They were also very helpful providing recommendations for other wineries and attractions in the area. This shows the charm of Paso, where the attitude is very supportive of other wineries! The style of wines is more restrained than some over-the-top powerful fruit forward wines you can find in the region. They are well crafted, complex, and something to truly savor. The Rhone blends sampled (Le Devoir and Banshee) are of course wonderful, but I was most surprised and impressed by, is their Pinot, through their Lagom line

Beautiful room, amazing wine, perfect tasting! We had a great experience tasting wine at Torrin. I really loved the personalized experience from the wine tasting sheet with our names on it, to someone always there to answer questions and chat. The stemware (all Riedel) including the water glasses was over the top awesomeness. Oh, and most importantly, the wine! Every wine was fantastic, but the "the Maven" was my favorite. By appointment only.

We had an amazing first time tasting at Torrin with Val last weekend. She was very informative and gracious. The wines were fabulous, the property is beautiful, great tasting room indoors and outdoors. We look forward to our next visit at Torrin with Val!

When my wine connoisseur friend and I discovered that his favorite Paso Robles winery had opened reservation-only seated tastings of its Lagom wines to the public starting March 9, 2018, we beeline called for an appointment. Lauded for its Rhone-varietal wines, Torrin Vineyard co-founders Scott and Viquela Hawley's vineyard nestled in the Saint Lucia hills of Templeton Gap has produced a number of fine wines with Wine Spectator scores in the 90s. Scott, who trained at Fetzer, also serves as head winemaker for Law Estate Wines and is a popular consultant and mentor to many area wineries. He has worked in wine for two decades and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the Paso Robles community. Torrin currently offers 4-flight tastings of its Lagom Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines on Fridays and Saturdays at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. Tastings are $20pp ($10 for Allocation Members) - waived if you purchase 6+ Lagom bottles. Rachel, our delightfully friendly hostess, immediately responded to our reservation request, offered us the choice of group or private tasting, added almonds to the snack offerings in addition to crackers and Easter jelly beans when she discovered we hadn't had lunch, and gave us several excellent recommendations for other Paso Robles wineries/eateries. We tasted: 2014 Lagom Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard: the hands down winner for the more sophisticated palates in the group! Bottled unfined and unfiltered, expect earthy, herbal, and fruit flavors that will age well over the next decade. 2014 Lagom Pinot Noir Duvarita Vineyard: spicy and earthy! 2014 Lagom Pinot Noir Clone 115: my favorite! Super drinkable, felt the most fruit-forward. 2015 Lagom Chardonnay Spanish Springs Vineyard: smooth, bold, with notes of fruit and mineral. Torrin wines are not currently available to taste but will hopefully be added to the list soon. IMPORTANT: Stay tuned for the grand opening of Torrin's Willow Creek District winery in Summer 2018! Torrin will be relocating from Tin City to its home property in Paso Robles.

When we arrived, I learned that groups of seven or more get charged an extra $10 per person--a $70 fee that essentially wiped out my complimentary member tastings. Six people? No charge. Seven? That'll be $70. What?! For literally ZERO increase in service or experience. They're walking around a table, pouring a thimble of wine in a glass...that one extra person apparently necessitates a $70 fee. Here's the kicker: we were the only people in the tasting room for the entire two hours we were there. No crowd to manage, no strain on resources. And our group bought nine bottles of wine. The "thank you" for bringing in new customers and making purchases was a surprise $70 surcharge. I emailed to cancel my membership, thinking someone might reach out to try to keep a five-year member. Instead, I got a polite apology and a cancellation confirmation--from the GM and Winemaker, no less. No offer to waive the fee, no credit, nothing. They let a long-time member walk over $70. I noticed another Yelp review complaining about this exact same policy. So it's not just me--and apparently that feedback hasn't prompted any change. That says a lot. In a region overflowing with great wineries that actually value their members, I can't recommend this one. The person who served us was solid and attentive and worked to our timing to get next winery. Also had some knowledge of other wineries which was nice to hear. Wines unfortunately didnt live up to my expectations. The roussanne was good a good start but my palate didn't connect with the reds very well. The 2018 Gernache was downright awful. Just the drive up to HR was wonderful, rising higher and higher up the mountain to reach the place. I was jokingly telling my wife trying to be snooty, I don't drink wine from the lower elevation Paso, lol! Super large estate with such a beautiful building for indoor and outdoor seatings. Was amazing just driving up the property to the tasting room. Had made reservation online ahead of time, since was in Paso to check out the sensorio thing on a Saturday in mid March. Don't think I've really been to winery to do tasting, but this was one place I wanted to come to after tasting their "Ancestor" at inlaw's house over a year ago. They had gotten the bottle from their neighbors who must be club members. All I remember was it was one of the best wines I've had. I'm a cheap wine drinker, but things like the stag's Artemis and halter ranch Ancestor just leave lasting impressions in my mind. Checked in with the gentleman at the host stand in the beautiful building. Everything so clean and nice here. Chose to be seated outdoors on the beautiful day. It was quite crowded and busy with folks enjoying food and wines. Ms. Kristie was our server and she was fantastic! Working multiple tables with bottles in hands for all the tastings happening. She was super friendly and accommodating and helpful with explanations of each wine and so energetic to manage every table! Her energy helped stave off the fatigue from driving 4 hours since morning and the food coma from lunch before arriving. We already had lunch so opted for just the olives with the tastings of Ranch and Silver to maximize tasting all the different wines. Initially requested Ranch for both of us, since I expected to get 2 bottles of the wonderful ancestor to get one tasting waived. Shortly after, I noticed ancestor was also considered part of the silver label wines, so switched one to Silver flight (thought maybe ancestor was not silver, since it was part of the ranch flight, but Ms. Kristie said it's just on both flights since it's their signature wine). The olives were very salty, maybe should be rinsed out of it's brine before to reduce the salt. I expected olives to be from HR, but olives are not, and I guess just the olive oil in is is (on the olive oil later). Maybe the sourdough would have been better since it's served with the olive oil, but was just too full from lunch. After tasting all the wines from both flights, for my novice taste buds, I think Halter Ranch is just a master of blends! I actually preferred the blends over the single grape variety wines. Suspected as such after tasting the ancestor before, but my plans to get 2 bottles of ancestor went out the door once I tasted the Cuvee Alice! Wow, so smooth and complexity in depth, instantly scrambled my brain of thinking I came solely for the Ancestor. Ms. Kritie explained the Cuvee Alice was named after the owner's mom. That made perfect sense! It was a wine deserving of owner's pride, what a wonderful wine! Doubt came over me, now maybe I have to step up to buying the Cuvee Alice instead of Ancestor? Can't get better than the Cuvee. But the final round of Ancestor showed off why it's their signature wine, still was so wonderful, and couldn't make up my mind since I love the Ancestor, but I could not imagine not enjoying Cuvee again. Ended up splitting my decision and got a bottle of each to make sure I can have both again! Will introduce inlaws to the Cuvee since we all had Ancestor before. And will have Ancestor for my dad on Father's day then so I can have it then to see if I can decide then which is my fav, or just both :) On the way out, saw the bottles of olive oil by the entrance. Got tastings and loved it, wow! Some "real" olive oil! I preferred the ancestor over the tuscan. Wife got a bottle the Picual olive oil. It is so smooth with delightful flavors and a wonderful bitter bite to it. It's too good and pricey to use for food, so we just take a spoonful daily like a super antioxidant supplement! Already getting low on the bottle... These wines and olive oils are way above my pay grade, but why gotta be so good. Maybe I need to ask inlaw neighbor if they are club members to order me some:) I noticed there is a HR in Temecula closer to home...

Both were good, but I felt the Silver Flight had the stronger overall lineup. I ended up buying two bottles of their Malbec before leaving, which says a lot about the quality. We had a 2 PM reservation and arrived about 10 minutes late due to a detour through the hills getting to the winery. Even so, they were very accommodating and seated us right away at an open table. There were quite a few open tables when we arrived, so on this particular Saturday in April, a reservation may not have been necessary, but it's still a good idea to have one just in case. Service was a bit inconsistent but still positive overall. We were initially greeted by another team member who brought water and got us started with our first pours while our assigned server, Janise, was tied up. She later served a couple of the middle pours, and another team member stepped in again for one of the later wines. It seemed like she was balancing multiple responsibilities, and while the handoff between staff kept things moving, it did feel a bit disjointed at times. That said, the overall tone was more casual and friendly rather than overly formal, which some people may prefer. One thing I did appreciate was that there was no hard push to join their wine club. At other wineries in Paso Robles, I've experienced a much stronger sales push, so it was nice to be able to enjoy the tasting without that pressure. The wines themselves were consistently good. We didn't have anything we disliked, and most of what we tried ranged from solid to very enjoyable. They also offer food, though we had already eaten beforehand and didn't try it. The property also has a small retail area near the front with apparel and other merchandise. There are EV chargers available at the far end of the parking lot, which is a nice feature, but accessing them can be a bit tricky. Larger vehicles like sprinter vans and limos tend to park in that same area, which can make maneuvering into the charging spots more difficult than it should be. Overall, I would come back. Good wine, a relaxed atmosphere, and a nice setting. If you're in Paso Robles and looking for a laid-back tasting experience with solid wines, Halter Ranch is worth a visit.
