If someone asked me to recommend just one restaurant in Cambria, I'd probably answer before they finished the question: Medusa's. Now, full disclosure--I might be a little biased because Mexican food is my favorite cuisine. I grew up in Los Angeles, where finding incredible Mexican food isn't a challenge... it's practically a birthright. So when I say Medusa's is the real deal, I don't hand out that compliment lightly. My wife and I almost always order the Molcajete, and it's become our tradition. It's advertised as serving two people, and it absolutely does... assuming one of those people doesn't "accidentally" keep taking just one more bite. It's loaded with flavor, generous portions, and arrives at the table looking like it deserves its own introduction. The biggest surprise on this visit? The tortillas. They were fresh, homemade, and absolutely phenomenal. Maybe they've always made them from scratch and I somehow missed it, but this time they stole the show. They tasted just like the ones my abuelita used to make--warm, soft, and so good they almost made me forget there was an entire Molcajete sitting in front of me. One of my favorite things about Medusa's is that it's family-run, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. Everyone is genuinely welcoming, friendly, and makes you feel like you're more than just another table. That kind of hospitality is getting harder to find, and it makes the meal even better. I've eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants over the years, and Medusa's has earned a permanent spot near the top of my list. If you're in Cambria and craving authentic Mexican food, do yourself a favor and stop here. Just one piece of advice: don't fill up on the chips... no matter how much your stomach insists it's a great idea. Your future self will thank you when the Molcajete arrives. read more

First, no greeting by the lady who took our order. Quite frankly, she was not polite at all. Second, and probably most important, the food was sub par to say the least. Wifey order the menudo. The lady said they had run out of hominy. The tripe had not been cleaned properly and the soup had a layer of grease floating on top. She said it was gross. I had chile verde and eggs. Very little meat and the green chile was salty, but otherwise flavorless. Homemade corn tortillas were Ok, but looked machine made. Also, if u don't speak Spanish u may be out of luck. We came here for lunch while spending a weekend in Cambria after watching a protest rally as the restaurant was across the street.. it's a small what appears to be a family owned restaurant. We all thought the food was good although it took longer than expected and one of the 4 dishes had to be remade as it didn't have everything as ordered. Reviews for the butternut squash enchiladas intrigued us. My vegetarian daughter reported that they are "good, not great": the squash could be of better quality and the green sauce was unwelcome since she cannot have peppers. (I scraped the sauce onto my plate and enjoyed it.) I asked for a kids meal burrito made chimichanga style and they produced! It had the beans, rice & cheese elements of the burrito and the crispy chimi shell. Unfortunately it came dry, no sour cream guac or even sauce on the side. Inside, the carnitas was too salty, but the beans and cheese were good. I added one star for the singing cook we could hear in the back. I like eating where people like to work. read more

I decided to try this place with my family on our way down to Pismo and was not disappointed! It was very cozy and it's in a calm area with a nice view if you would like to sit outside. The restaurant is located. We are the Cambria library very close to the midway point between east and west. This is a family run Mexican restaurant with great salsa guacamole, and enchiladas you can order à la carte or is a meal with rice and beans all the food is made fresh and the restaurant and it is definitely family owned and operated we ordered from the son / chef and his father did the cooking. We met his daughters, his nephews and other members of the family. Please do not expect a fancy place but expect to have really good food. The service was fast. read more

This little restaurant is hidden gem. The cafe is quite simple and small, but the food is fantastic. My favorite is the butternut squash enchiladas. So yummy and not like anything I have had before, I've been back since for another order! I can also recommend the chimichanga. It was too big for me to eat in one sitting. I was spending a little time in Cambria around lunchtime, and saw Medusa's, so I decided to stop for a bite. I ordered a one taco (chile verde) combination, which came with rice and beans. I munched on the complimentary chips and salsa (pretty good, btw), and within a few minutes my lunch arrived on my table. The server also brought me a couple of lime wedges, which were a nice touch. The taco was very good, and very full of stuff. It was had to hold it without tearing the torts! The rice and beans were also quite good, although considering how inexpensive they are, it would have been nice to have larger portions of both. The price, about $20 after tip, was also fair, especially considering the place is practically within spitting distance to the beach. Would I come back? In theory, yes. OTOH, this was my first time in Cambria in over 60 years of living in California, so it's not like I'll find myself in the neighborhood any time soon. read more

Enchiladas (beef & cheese) were quite good but small. Nice red sauce, refried beans and rice too. Salsa Ranchero and chips were free and excellent. Waiter was very gracious. One big issue was no itemized bill. We simply got a check for just over $38. I don't know how much I was charged for anything. He forgot my side of guacamole. Was I charged for that? I put down an AMEX and got back my signature copy which was now over $39. Was that for the cost of using a credit card? The tip options were calculated for you and started with only a 10% option, but was based on the total bill including state tax. That shouldn't be the case. Your tip is generally based on the pretax amount. . Still, nice the tax didn't begin with the 18% option and go up to 25% like a lot of Bay Area restaurants. I'd go again but ask for an itemized bill next time. read more

Came here on vacation, and although there aren't a lot of places to eat, this is definitely one i'll be back to! Everything I ate had great flavor, and it was good portions for the price of everything. The inside, although small, is very homey, which I always find comforting when going to a new restaurant. My server was also very accommodating and made sure to not hover but also was able to make sure we were taken care of. Next time I'm in town I'll make sure to stop by! read more

We were staying in Morro Bay for a couple nights and needed to go to Paso Robles, and found Medusa's on the return trip, so we stopped for lunch. It's a small, family run, restaurant with delicious food, great homemade chips and salsa, and a wonderful waiter. I had a shrimp burrito, with a Negra Modelo, and my girlfriend had a taco and red enchilada. All were wonderfully tasty. We'd gladly stop there again. Highly recommended! read more

Sadly, I need to bump them down a little from last time. The restaurant owner is still a friendly and courteous gent with a similar friendly staff. Service was quick and he delivered exactly what we ordered for. The location is a typical "hole-in-the-wall" location and the interior was homey and felt perfect. Very clean location. We ended up getting the chicken enchilada's and the chicken soft tacos. The amount of chicken in both entrees was better than many other restaurants. My problem with the enchilada's was that they were pretty dry even when I cut apart the enchilada and put more sauce on top of the chicken. The chicken was tasty, but dry - and the sauce really didn't help. My wife's chicken tacos looked great but again, it needed quite a bit of salsa to make it flavorful (Lots of good veggies though). The beans were good but the rice was just so-so. Next time, we'll probably try something like the chili verde or ask for more sauce. I think their food is good, but based on the other reviews, it might be other items being better. read more

This is the one!! Soon as I walked in and saw the yucateco hot sauces on the table and Mexican decor, I knew it would hit! They've got a lot of plate combo options to choose from. I got the chile relleno with the chicken tamale. Pro tip, ask for diced asada on top of the chile relleno. You can thank me later! The asada was a perfect topping as it was nice and crispy. It compliments the chile relleno very well. My friends got jelly and ordered some on the side for their plates as well aha ha. I generally gauge Mexican restaurants by their beans and rice, because if the basics are off, then I assume the rest to be the same. Not here! I can't stress enough how great the food is here. The ambiance is reminiscent of those hole in the wall places that are hidden treasures. Just know that you've came to the right place for Mexican food in town. To top it all off, it was inexpensive for the amount of food we got. The server is very kind and tends to you in a timely manner and frequently to make sure you have all that you need. After a fun day full of Hearst Castle, a walk on the bluff of Ragged Point, driving on highway 1, walking on Moonstone Beach, and exploring downtown Cambria, we came upon this family owned restaurant on Main St. We were invited in to choose our own seats. Immediately we received fresh chips and salsa at our table. A radio was playing Mexican band music. We ordered beef enchiladas, a bean rice and cheese burrito, and two a la carte fish tacos. Twenty minutes later our food was served and it was delicious! My fish tacos were flavorful and satisfying, accompanied by a fresh lemon wedge, cabbage, onions, and cilantro, and green salsa. read more

I unfortunately didn't take pics but I guess trust me. I'm from Orange County in SoCal with plenty of food from all over. Trust me this is as good as it gets when you go north and it's super affordable, the way it should be. Also the other Mexican place is open later but it cost much more and more Americanized. Plus the salsa is amazing. They have other heat flavors that I also liked such as the habanero but the base one has the most flavor. Also the young guy that was our server was super nice. I'm sorry I forgot your name but you were awesome, better service than any other site down place. I can not recommend enough. Small business so give them some love and you won't be sorry. We bought an entire large salsa and chips for the road to the redwoods and it never made it home. read more

When we make our way to the Central Coast and town of Cambria, Medusa's is our go to Mexican Restaurant for the Best Chili Relleno's. It was a bit pricy at $20.00 The mole has changed over the years, and we rated it a 5 star the mole was so tasty as you can see the single Chili Relleno Mole orange color. This time it was red in color and not as good as before, but still a good-tasting Relleno 4 star. Bean's and Rice with good favor. The young order taker/waiter was friendly with great service. Visiting Cambria and decided to eat at a Mexican restaurant. My husband always orders chile verde at every restaurant he goes to. First of all, the waitress didn't seem all that personable and we were the only ones in there. His chile verde did not taste like homemade (as it states on their sign on door). And it had a different flavor we aren't use to. I tried it too. That was the first time my husband has ever not finished his chile verde. For the price, they could've given him more than two tablespoons of beans also. I ordered a machaca burrito . I also had to pay extra for beans . I tasted very little beans in it. We didn't get an itemized bill of everything we ordered . My 2 tablespoons of beans were prob $3 . I guess we should've asked for an itemized bill. And it came out pretty expensive since they included a hefty charge for using a credit card. We will not come back . read more

A small place with a few tables, but really great homemade food! I got the chili verde wet burrito and the wife had the taco combo plate. She devoured hers, I loved the burrito, but my medical condition only allowed a few bites. The owner came over to ask if the burrito was to my liking, I informed her of my condition. I really like the fact the owners showed concern when they saw a possible issue. If you want what I think is real homemade food, please support this small restauran!
