Got food from here while doing a tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery and OMG, we will definitely be back just to be able to have the food from here alone! It not only paired well with the wine, but service was also friendly and fast. We loved both of our small plates that we split for lunch; it was probably our favorite meal of the day! We opted for the pulled pork sliders and the cacao e Pepe arancini. OMG, those arancini were sooo amazing. We both wanted more! They better not take them off the menu, because I will crave them until we're' back in the area. October 11, 2025 - San Simeon, CA. We booked a wine tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery and placed an online order with Seaside@HRW Tasting Room so our food would be ready during our tasting. The process was easy and convenient, and everything arrived right on time. We shared the Hearst Ranch Burger ($22)--an 8oz Hearst Ranch Estate ground beef patty with Havarti cheese, braised & seared pork belly, onion jam, house pickles, burger sauce, and heirloom tomato on a black & white sesame bun. It was served quartered, making it perfect for sharing. We also ordered the shoestring fries ($8), which were plentiful, crispy, and served with a buttermilk ranch dressing. The prices were a little steep, but I guess it's location, location, location. Anyway, it was a great pairing with the wines and made for a relaxing, delicious experience. Note: Seaside@HRW is open Friday-Sunday, 11AM-4PM, for food service at the tasting room (wine tasting reservation required). The Seaside Deli is open daily and if you are also wine tasting at the winery, you can pick up from the deli and bring it to your tasting table. Seaside Foods does offer great food, but at a very steep price. Seaside Foods used to be called Sebastians, and this location has gone through several different concepts. Seaside Foods sounds more like a food catering outfit than a deli. Their food is for those looking for more casual health conscious options when visiting Hearst castle. The rub is that it's just a few bucks more than it should be. In the past the previous owners were little more cost conscious toward the visitors. We love the deli at Sebastian's/Seaside Foods- the sandwiches are way above and beyond in quality, quick, and never disappoint. My husband and I are so enamored with the Californian (a perfect, super hearty turkey club with excellent and plentiful ingredients- the pepper jack, bacon, thick-cut turkey, and sprouts really set it off) that we struggle to order anything else. When we do deviate, everything is excellent. The deli salads are great too- we love the broccoli salad. The outdoor seating is plentiful and comfortable, as well as spacious and dog-friendly (we brought our two today, and had no problem putting ourselves out of highly trafficked areas given that our newer little rescue is not yet used to restaurant patios). The store itself is super clean, and better appointed and curated than ever! They have some awesome gourmet and specialty food items, and a lot of very cute home decor items and gifts. I am a bit traumatized that they changed the name of the business to Seaside Foods from Sebastian's Store, but I have to hand it to them for staying power. This little store has been through many iterations since I first encountered it last century on a trip to Hearst Castle when it offered mostly hot dogs and hamburgers, but included a fish sando. We were scouting out the area today because our favorite go-to takeout in Cambria shot their prices through the roof!! We examined the deli and got a tasty shrimp sando for me and a "Californian" for my husband. We've ordered from Seaside Foods about 8 times because their sandwiches and salads are so good. We eat them down the beach to the sounds of the surf. I ordered a salad today but when I got to the beach they didn't pack any dressing so I ate it dry which was not enjoyable. They may have had new staff? Stumbled upon this local gem while exploring the historic Old San Simeon Village area and discovered the absolute BEST meatloaf sandwich I've ever had in my life - The Hot Rancher! It was recommended by the staff at the counter and it was divine! "The Hot Rancher" is a massive masterpiece containing supple, savory meatloaf made from local Hearst Ranch beef, onions and carrots, and topped with a heavenly BBQ sauce with a perfect little kick to it, as well as crispy onions, arugula, and Parmesan - all from local business. If you enjoy meatloaf sandwiches, this is a must have! And definitely not one you can eat with your hands - it's huge and messy and requires a fork but it's so tender and perfectly prepared that it's easily eaten with the fork. I also grabbed one of their homemade salads from their cooler as a side - the broccoli salad - and it was a delightful surprise! It had fresh, crisp broccoli mixed with various types of raisins/cranberries and pine nuts - I was a little skeptical when I saw the raisins but it was delicious and refreshing. The cafe itself is inside Sebastian's General Store in a historic building from the mid 1800s - which is also like most of the other surrounding buildings - so it's a fun little spot to walk off your lunch and there are even info signs in some places. There's even remnants of the first post office inside which was really cool. They have inside and outside seating. The grounds are beautiful- lots of picnic tables so you can enjoy the ocean views or the mountains and sprawling ranch grounds - can't go wrong no matter which side of the table you sit on haha! Order at the counter and they'll bring your food to you wherever you decide to sit (they give you a number). Staff were excellent - super helpful and made flawless recommendations. Prices are moderate but on par with the coastal area. Bathrooms were super clean and there was plenty of parking. Definitely a must when visiting the area - highly recommend! read more

perfect little deli hidden inside a gift shop for all your wine tasting / road tripping picnic needs. got the basil pasta salad and it was so good, added a kids grilled cheese and it can easily feed 2 adults with oozing cheese and grilled to perfection. plenty of outdoor seats to soak up the california sun and ocean breeze. amazing atmosphere with the hearst winery tasting room just across the street. we couldn't quite see the hearst castle as the fog rolled in but it will be a clear shot view on a clear day. read more

Driving up Highway 1 to the Piedras Blancas Northern Elephant Sea Rookery, just past the turn-off for the Hearst Castle, we passed a sign on the opposite side of the road showing a turn-off to "Old San Simeon." We hadn't planned to stop there but, quite honestly, needing a restroom break, we decided to check it out. Driving down a narrow road lined with beautiful old eucalyptus trees, we arrived in a small open area. A sign on a building on one side indicated the Hearst Winery, directly in front was an old building with the date "1878" on it, and to our left was a newer - but still old building with a sign proclaiming it to be "Sebastian's Store - State Historical landmark 726, Family owned Since 1914." We decided to check it out. Upon entering, we were told that we were early (it was 10:30) and that they did not open until 11 AM - but the young woman behind the counter at the restaurant end of the store was kind enough to let us use their (super clean!) restrooms. After our visit to the rookery, we returned to the store around 1:30 to find it crowded with visitors. Now hungry - and wanting to patronize the place that had so kindly let us use their facilities before they were opened - we decided to have our late lunch there. Apparently the restaurant - named "Seaside Foods" - though located within Sebastian's Store, is a separate entity. The young woman behind the counter - whose name, unfortunately, I did not get - greeted us with a big smile and could not have been friendlier. We noticed that she exuded the same positive energy with each patron - the kind of person you wish you dealt with in all your transactions. The Seaside Foods menu includes an assortment of unique sandwiches, salads, sides and drinks. I ordered the "Autumnal California" sandwich ($17) which was described as "Supreme Pan Roasted Turkey Breast, Cranberry Relish, Mustard Aioli, Sliced Apple, Triple Creme Brie, Arugula, Red Onion on a Multigrain Ciabatta." My partner had the "Seaside Cuban" ($18) described as "16 Hour Slow Roasted Mojo Pulled Pork, Smoked Ham, House Pickles, Swiss Cheese, Mojo Mustard on Edna's Plain Ciabatta." There was a 25 minute wait for our order which gave us enough time to visit the Hearst Winery across the way. Though the winery was closed for tours and tasting, the building was opened and we were able to walk out on the restaurant patio with its spectacular view overlooking the ocean. Inside there is a shop and on one wall an interesting photo history of the Hearst family and estate. Our Seaside Foods sandwiches were large and tasty - so good in fact that we devoured them before realizing we had forgotten to take photos to share. Cook Daniel knows how to make a sandwich! We ate them at the picnic tables out on the patio at Sebastian's with its own view of the surrounding hills, an old church building, and the Hearst Castle in the distance. Between the super friendly staff, the delicious sandwiches and the views - I would definitely recommend making a stop here at Seaside Foods at Sebastian's for lunch or even a snack if you find yourself in the area. read more

Long before Hearst Ranch put their winery on the bluff at Old San Simeon Village, I visited Sebastian's general store and had enjoyed lunch from the cafe in the back. When I joined the winery last year, Sebastian's general store and diner across the road was closed for restoration. Recently I found out they had re-opened in June and I knew I had to try the little restaurant in the back operating under separate ownership. I recently had a reservation to pick up my wine shipment at Hearst Ranch so I thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone. You go through Sebastian's to order. Seaside is a sandwich shop and deli with about 6 sandwiches, 3 green salads and some sides on the menu. The seating is on the east deck outside. There are about 10 tables to choose from; most shaded. The food is very good. You order at the counter, take a number and they bring the food to you in disposable tableware. You don't have an ocean view, but you can see a glimpse of the historic buildings across the road and the pier. There's an ocean breeze and you can hear the waves crashing. You can see Hearst Castle up on the hill while you eat. It's a cool spot -- go try it!!! read more

We had a reservation for wine tasting at Hearst Winery and decided to try lunch from Seaside Foods. We placed our order a day ahead. We ordered several of the Coastal Cowboy, as the description online sounded really great. Our order was to be ready for a 12:30 pickup, Getting our food promptly was important as our time for wine tasting was limited. We had to wait 15 minutes for our order to be ready. They did acknowledge that we had to wait and comped us a couple of cookies, was appreciated. The sandwiches were just not good. The bread was to be ciabatta. If it was, it was not very good. The bread was to be toasted and it really was not, which left the bread oddly crumbly. The tri-tip lacked flavor. The sandwich in general was not tasty, just very non-descriptive. It seems that for $21 you should be getting a stellar sandwich. These were underwhelming at best. also, I ordered several bags of chips. One of the chips that I ordered was a little more pricey - and I was given a bag of the other cheaper chips. We always enjoyed it in the old days when we could get a great burger at Sebastian's. And the food truck that Hearst Winery had for a while was really great as well. We just were not impressed with anything at Seaside foods today. Sadly, I don't think that we will be picking up lunch there again. Hoping you have a better experience than we did. read more

We popped in to get some snacks to bring to the Hearst Ranch Winery. The gentleman at the sandwich counter said they could put together a cheeseboard for us. We selected the small cheeseboard and it was packed full with the works! Cheeses, meats, nuts, fruit, jam, olives. There were three of us and we still had half the board to take with us! We had sandwiches here on 12/10/23. The service was friendly and helpful. They have nice seating outside on picnic benches - some with shade and all with a great view of Hearst Castle on the hill. The sandwiches were excellent (Cubano and Tuna Melt) and large enough we each took home half. Now owned by the Hearst Foundation, the place has been renovated since we were last there and includes a store in the front (lots of gift items, including Hearst branded.) The inside looks new and everything seemed very clean. Great place to stop for lunch. read more
