We went here on a Monday late morning during a not-so-busy time (September). Lovely place, inside and outside. We didn't have any reservations and we were seated right away. The first thing I noticed was, it was freezing at our table and the AC fan was blowing straight to us. Not-so-good especially if you love your food hot, which we do. But we didn't want to complain or make a big deal out of it, so we just settled for it. Cleanliness was 10/10, table was set up nicely. We ordered the Jo's Buttermilk Biscuits w/ butter flight. Some friends and I drove down from Dallas to check this place out. I loved it from the moment I walked in. Such a warm and welcoming feel. Beautiful place inside and out. Tourist. Made reservations for Friday night dinner but they were not busy at 7:30. It is a beautiful building inside and out. The dinner menu is limited and meals do not include a salad or vegetable so we had to order a side of green beans which was enough to share with 3. One of ordered a baked sweet potato called a shareable. It was delicious but is one medium potato and not designed to share. One ordered the vegan meal, cauliflower steaks and very much enjoyed. Three of us had the crispy chicken which comes with a small amount of mashed potatoes and equal amount of white gravy. Delicious but would be better with less gravy and some vegetable with color. I came here with a group of friends when we were visiting Waco. I was really surprised at the price point considering the casual vibe. Pricing reminded me of Dallas but without any nice plating. I went with the burger and fries which was very good ($20). My friend got the salmon (came with brussel sprouts) and the portion looked small for $26. Another friend got the pasta and the last made her own meal with soup, salad and a side. While I enjoyed my meal (and our biscuit app), I think the menu was lacking for dinner. I have been before as I went to Baylor but my girlfriend, her parents and I were going to a basketball game in the arena. We had a reservation but had to wait around 30 minutes after our reservation time which was disappointing and kind of rushed our meal. However our meal and service was excellent! Pretty disappointed in the Harvest salad...it came fully romaine but in the menu it's described as kale and Brussels sprouts. Our waitress brought a new one with a different green that doesn't look like kale? And I counted 2 brussel sprout slices in the new salad...it's like they remade it just to appease me? A disappointing visit to a place we were excited to share with our kids My wife and I visited Magnolia Table a few years ago during our babymoon and absolutely loved it. We've talked about that meal ever since and were really looking forward to sharing the experience with our kids during their fall break. Unfortunately, when we arrived on a Monday afternoon, we were told they weren't accepting walk-ins -- only guests with reservations. It was a big disappointment after making the trip to Waco just for this meal. We completely understand that restaurants get busy, but it would be helpful if the reservation-only policy were communicated more clearly online or at least posted at the entrance. We made reservations and came on a Monday at 1pm. It was the best experience! We waited just a short amount of time before being seated. Everyone was super friendly, from the person who checked us in to our waiter and fellow patrons. The restaurant is beautiful, of course. As we were driving into town I read some of the other reviews to try and help me decide what to order and I was surprised to see so many negative comments. I will say right away that we had an amazing experience and did not have any issues during our visit. Don't let those negative reviews sway you when deciding to come and visit. We had been to the Silos a few years ago and decided to get the orange cranberry biscuit to start. It was amazing, as always! We then shared a bowl of the white cheddar bisque. There was a slight chill in the air so this was perfection. I've t was creamy and delightful. For mains, I had the chicken tenders and my boyfriend had the sliders. Both dishes were very flavorful and right on point. I couldn't leave without trying the strawberry butter that everyone talks about. My favorite Waco spot thanks to Chip and Diana! I'm so happy that they created this community. I've been a few times since moving to Dallas. I would recommend taking the trip. It's definitely worth the 90 minute car trip if you loved their show on HGTV and now they're on network. I'm really proud of what they created, and the fact that they have made their own city a destination spot. In addition to the restaurant head on over to the shopping area on the other side of the highway it's really cool to see what they've been able to create. The food at the restaurant is really good. My favorite is the chicken finger platter. I know it's random, but it's hits every time as well as the biscuits and gravy. I also really enjoy their flavored lemonade. I've tried for 3 years in a row to eat here. First year, it was under construction, last year my flight was delayed and I missed our reservations. I was passing thru Waco on a long road trip and thought what the heck, let's have the Magnolia experience, starting with the restaurant. It was early, 8 am. so I was ahead of the tourist rush and was seated at a table right away. When I left around 45 minutes later it was packed with a line (probably because the Silos open at 9). Waitstaff: Friendly, attentive but not overbearing. Kept coffee topped off and water refilled. Food: The food taste was a 4.5 but 3.5 for the cool to cold serving temp. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. Panacakes were big, fluffy, good balance of chocolate chips, big scoop of whipped butter, good texture and delicious. But temp was lukewarm. The bacon, also really tasty, but was cool, not even lukewarm. Lastly, they bring the syrup in a small bowl vs a pitcher on the table so I thought (hoped) it meant the syrup would be warm, and a very Joanna Gaines touch, but nope, cold. The coffee was fine, nothing special. I like a lighter, blonde roast, so if you like Starbucks you'd probably like the coffee here. Atmosphere: Honestly, pretty much what you'd expect. Charming, comfortable, curated but not pretentious. Even the restrooms are lovely. Price: This was probably the biggest surprise as my bill was under $20, same as I'd expect to pay at my local breakfast spot. I happened to be in Plano over the weekend for a conference so since I came this far, I hopped on a bus to Waco, scheduled myself less than 24 hours in Waco, and here is one of my #MagnoliaMonday stops. I was actually glad that I got to see everything just a few days before #Silobration. But mark my words, I plan to go back one day for the full event! One thing I really love about the Magnolia story is how Chip and Joana didn't just make it big and move to LA to be stars (although they are welcome any time). They chose to take their skills and help breathe new life into the town where they met that means so much to them. I love that they took over what used to be the almost 100 yr. old Elite Café and gave it a face lift, while still paying tribute to its past. I was excited to get to taste recipes from Joanna's cookbooks. When I told some people I was on a tour with in Waco that I was coming to this restaurant they said: Two words - strawberry butter! So I ordered the Farm Breakfast, eggs, potatoes, peppered bacon (I asked for salsa too) and when it came to the biscuit, of course I ordered strawberry butter and paid a little more for gravy on side - which was tasty on everything! While I sipped my coffee and waited for my food, I noticed the special details: Napkins felt like cloth, the music was from bygone days that immediately stir whimsy when you hear them, the tiled floor was something I wish I had the patience to do in my home. I thought of one thing that I would have loved to see but didn't. Next to each booth was a leather pouch with a paper menu of things that you could order to take with you. On the back is a mostly empty space and I just would have loved to have read about the history of the original café and what it meant to the Gaines' when they chose it as the spot to open the Magnolia Table - even if it's an excerpt from an article from their magazine, or a book they've already written. One last note, I highly recommend reservations from what I have read and what people have told me, though since I came at 7am I didn't need them. By the time I left, the cafe was filled. They don't take reservations so we stopped in, put our name in and then had an hour to explore the town, when they page you, you have 10 minutes to get back to claim your table. It was worth the wait. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and the biscuits...oh my goodness were they good. The strawberry butter was icing on an already wonderful bite. The donut holes by themselves seemed a little overcooked but the chopped apples were cooked perfectly and the flavor balance was spot on. Mimosas were nicely done and service was friendly. I was very excited to try Magnolia Table so I made a reservation several months in advance. We went on a Monday morning and the reservation really wasn't necessary. The restaurant is beautiful and all of the staff were super friendly. They had a special $18 Chip special which included little pancakes, bacon, eggs your way, a biscuit, and hash browns. My daughter and I shared one because it was a ton of food. Everything was very good but the highlights were the hash browns and biscuit. The honey butter was better than the strawberry butter. Where to even start? We were in Waco for a few days and of course planned on visiting the Silos. We had no idea this wasn't on site but a bit away. No biggie, we just didn't know. My daughter ordered the Breakfast sandwich which came on a flaky croissant with peppered bacon cooked to perfection. My Son in Law ordered the Southern Style Benedict which comes with a charred jalapeno gravy that was the best I've ever tasted. My husband ordered a traditional Farm Breakfast which comes with a delectable Strawberry whipped butter for your biscuit that tantalized your taste buds.
