It was decent. Four of us, on our way to Galveston, stopped at Kim's in Waco for lunch. The place is decorated in fun 50s - 80s decor. It's very much a diner. We got seated right away around 1:30 pm on a Friday. There appeared to be only two servers covering the entire room but they did a pretty good job of it. Our waiter, a young man was quite pleasant and knowledgeable. He used an electronic order taking device and was able to customize anything we asked for, right in the device. Three of us ordered shakes. My friend loves Coconut Cream Pie, which they have and she was considering a shake. I suggested she ask our server if he could make her a Coconut Cream Pie shake with vanilla ice cream. Sure enough, he did it and it was quite tasty. For lunch, we ordered as follows: - Patty Melt with Tots (shared by my wife and I) - Kids Finger Basket with 1 Chicken and 1 Steak finger and tots - Steak Finger Basket with Tots The food was very diner diner-like (fried or flat top grilled) and it was tasty. First time to eat at Kim's won't be the last . The food was Sooo good I had the small chicken fried streak with FF and a side salad which was huge and really good with home made thousand island dressing . You could cut CFS with a fork and dip in to the really good gravy . It came with toast and could taste the butter on the toast . All in All a great meal and great service . Stopped in for lunch while traveling through Waco. A classic "greasy spoon"! Grilled cheese and cheeseburger were great. Battered onion rings were to perfection (and not greasy.). Cost was reasonable. Our waitress (Meghan) was very personable. Decor was classic red and white 50's and reminiscent of an old five and dime luncheonette. My family and I took a trip to Texas recently and did a day trip to Waco. We were specifically looking for a diner-type dinner experience. Kim's came up on my search for local diners so we decided to try it out. As we pulled into the parking lot the big "Kims" sign had all the looks of a traditional diner! Walking into the restaurant, the red and white checkered floors and old-school tables and chair. We were excited! We were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived, and the staff here was great. Everyone was so friendly and really made us feel welcome. The food is what you would expect of a diner. Quick, mostly deep friend menu. All of our food was served hot, fresh and very tasty. They had "Steak Fingers", which I had never heard of before. Essentially they where just like Chicken fingers/tenders....but steak instead of chicken. Very tasty. I also had the country-fried steak, which was also very good. You have the choice of brown or white gravy....go white gravy...it's very good. This place is reasonably priced as well. Our family of 6 with drinks and 2 appetizers and 6 meals was just under $100. Lastly, my son got sick halfway through our dinner and made a mess all over the place (no fault to the food). The staff was so caring and kind. The quickly helped to clean up the mess and never made us feel bad for the mess. Only thing I wish this place had was steak fries. I didn't like the type of fries they served and when I think of a "diner" I think steak fries...but that was just a personal perspective. We loved Kim's overall and hope we get to visit Waco again sometime so that we can come here again. read more

The food is diner food American food. I had the steak fingers basket, the portion are large. Also, you get a lot of fries with the order of steaks. I have not left from here being hungry. When I was passing by, headed for a place for lunch, I saw this place and it looked interesting. Curbside, it looked nostalgic and the parking lot was full. There was ample parking, but with so many people there, I had to see what the fuss was about. I ordered a double cheeseburger. It was too big to eat, I had to take a patty off, and the fries were a healty portion as well. The atmosphere in this place is really what's awesome to me. I feel like I'm in the set of the movie Grease. Really nailed the 50's vibe. I ordered the 1/3rd lbs cheeseburger and it was really good. It came out fast and fresh. The tater tots were super crunchy and delicious. My girlfriend ordered the club sandwich. More than just ambiance going for this cute 50s themed joint. Double cheeseburger and a regular burger both combos with delicious hand cut fries and super crispy tots were all well done. Only drawback was that the beef Patties themselves could have and should have been better seasoned. Hubby had been here before and had talked about how good it was. I was excited to try it. So disappointed. We haven't been there in a while and wanted to try the burger. My husband and I walked in and were told to sit anywhere. We chose and booth. We waited and waited and waited. The waitress brought people food and kept cleaning tables and ignored us. The lady at the front register just kept looking at a phone. We were totally ignored. We finally walked towards the door and my husband asked if we were going to be waited on and she looked away. We have no idea why, but will never go there again. read more

This place is well off of I-35 and a world away from the hipster vibe of the Magnolia Market and a slowly redeveloping downtown. And that's not a bad thing -- and in this case, that's especially true. Kim's is a no frills 1950's style diner from the menu of burgers and a few other things to the decor (don't miss the Elvis mannequin sitting near the entrance) to the music which is a loop of 1950's and 1960's music. But the fun factor isn't the main reason I like Kim's. The simple reason is that it's one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. My double cheeseburger was prepared exactly how I like it. The burger itself was a perfect combination of slightly thicker than fast food burger patties cooked well done, a toasted bun, and two pieces of thicker than usual cheese. The fries, which my server suggested, were cut and fried to order. They could've been a bit crispier, so I'll ask for that next time. The service was first class. With all that's going on with the pandemic, the restaurant was spotlessly clean. The service was friendly. My food came out quickly and accurately. My drink was refilled as needed. Stopped in at 12 pm the place was packed. Parking lot configuration is weird in the front, roll around the back there is plenty of spaces. When you open the door everyone in the place looks right at you. The wait was average for a lunch time. The place is very 50's and so is the music. When your order is up they bang a bell! I could hear people chatting,the jukebox,and shakes being made all at the same time. There was a buzz of movement within the small space. The menu is consistent with what was available in the era (Burgers, steak fingers, hit dogs... Etc). I had a 1/3 burger and fries. The beef was real, juicy,and delishes. The bun was not too thick but just right. The fries were fresh and the seasoning made them pop. I couldn't eat it all but it was too good to waste...so I doggie bagged it. Sean had a double burger and fries. Sean is a big guy and he struggled to finish his burger and we agreed a 1/3 burger would have been the way to go. We didn't realize they wouldn't skimp with the meat like other places do. Tasha was our waitress and she was sweet. She acknowledged us and checked on us often.
