I didn't know this place existed until I seen it on door dash the other day. I saw that they had reasonable prices, a menu with a large variety, and good looking food. After seeing all of that, I had to try out Griffs for myself! I got the catfish, shrimp, fried okra and onion rings. It was so much food, I enjoyed the okra, onion rings and fish it all tasted great. I didn't really enjoy the hush puppies because they were deep fried a bit too hard for my liking, and the shrimp just didn't hit the spot for me, but it definitely had a nice crunch. We visited Griff's this morning for breakfast, and it was a huge disappointment. My husband ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was rubbery--cooked on the outside but red and underdone in the middle. The hash browns were mostly burnt and inedible. The sausage was unevenly cooked--one side was brown, the other side was burnt and crispy. His eggs were just okay, and the drink was fine. I ordered the chicken fried chicken plate. The pancakes were two different sizes--one was burnt and left a bitter taste in my mouth for over 30 minutes. The chicken had no flavor at all and was soaked in greasy oil that tasted like it had been reused to fry fish and everything else. My eggs were inconsistent--one almost over hard, the other closer to over medium. What made it worse is that no one even asked how the food was. Normally, when we pay, they ask. I was waiting, because I was ready to be honest--it was disgusting. We won't be returning for breakfast if she is cooking. We found grips here on yelp based on the reviews. We weren't sure what to expect so I was a little surprised when it was attached to a gas station. However, we know that sometimes unusual circumstances can lead to really good food. They had a lot of options to choose from and we tried several. The staff was super pleasant and helpful. Our food was delivered quickly and was very tasty. The proteins in particular were fresh and really good. If I had one piece of advice it would be that the vegetables needed a bit more seasoning.All in all it was certainly a diner within a gas station, but well worth our time and the stop. read more

I love coming back in here and being able to update this review. Griff's was always delicious. But the service wasn't good. Welp. I've been back at least half a dozen times in the past six months because I had one really positive experience that led to another and another. And I'm now just in a position to say I needed to give them another chance. The reason I moved this review all the way to a five is because they make, in my opinion, the best chicken fried steak in the state. And good lord, their sides taste like they came out of your southern grandma's kitchen. I still avoid Saturday morning breakfasts. Too much traffic for the size of the place. I have gone to Griffs for the past 30 years and loved them and always was promoter of their small-town grill, however over the past year the quality and customer service has severely decreased with the new lady that runs the grill. The last two steak nights we have been there the steak was way over cooked even though four of us asked for medium. I observed an elder male ask for specifically no pickles and then they slapped a handful on the burger. And when the guy asked the lady to redo it the lady that runs the grill was rude and disrespectful even though the guy was not rude or mean. I believe most locals have also notice a degrade since the parking lot is rarely full anymore. Went for breakfast one morning, the prices for a nice American breakfast are way better than ihop or places like that. However, I found not just one but TWO long black hairs in my scrambled eggs. Just wow! Stopped in with friends and we all loved it. It really does look like a whole in the wall. I'm close to saying this is my favorite local chicken fried chicken & maybe my fav CFC from anywhere. Hubby got a CFS sandwich, which was delicious too. Friends both got burgers that were fantastic & the kids got chicken strips and mac&cheese. Sides were great too. We also shared some fried green tomatoes. They're a gas station diner with a quantitative vs qualitative menu and are known by the locals for their fried cat fish. So its cheap, crap food. 3 reviews down you'll see a woman who described the staff as rude, and she pegged it perfectly! They gave my husband the wrong order, instead of making things right, then and there - they asked him to put his order in again, and go back to the end of the line. (A line which he'd already been in for 40 minutes.) When my husband decided against waiting and just took the food they gave him, because he was starving, he came home told me about it - I drove back with my plate and got my money back. They did nothing to reconcile the situation, and when I went in to get my money back or to get what we originally ordered they told me what they told my husband. wait. Looking for that greasy spoon? Here it is. The burgers are great, steak fingers are great, and the cat fish is fantastic. The reason this gets 3 stars is just the cleanliness aspect. I will however say they are friendly, and fast. Expect a wait at lunch time, as this spot is near the college and a lot of construction folks make the run here for food and more beer. It's real, it's greasy, and it's most definitely fried food at its best but that's about it. Don't go here looking for gluten free, vegan, or vegetarian options. Food not bad but customer service was terrible. I've been going here for years on Friday night for all you can eat catfish. Tonight was it for me. Dishonest business! I'll give you some advice, make sure each member of your party has a separate ticket. I went with a friend for all you can eat. I only had one helping. I went to ask for a to go box for my fries and coleslaw. She demanded my ticket which I gave her. She put a giant X on it meaning I couldn't have any refills of catfish. I get that. My buddy goes up for seconds, all you can eat right? Wrong! Because they put both orders on the same ticket they refused to refill his order. Not cool since we both paid for "all you can eat." Griff's sustained our family for nearly a week while we waited for our moving truck to arrive. We ate breakfast here first and were impressed with the quantity and quality of the food. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place that looked questionable to. But I could not go another day of horrible service and food from the McDonald's down the road, so we took a chance. Man, oh, man, I'm so glad we did!! I've tried a variety of things on their menu, but my favorite is the catfish. One of the staff bragged they had the best catfish in town, and let me just say - I didn't bother to try catfish anywhere else because Griff's has it nailed down! My husband's favorite is the Chopped BBQ sandwich, but we've tried the country fried steak, the philly cheesesteak, the chopped bbq plate, a couple burgers, and a plain Turkey and cheese sandwich. All of it is such great food! And the price? Unbeatable! This is our regular go-to place for meals when we don't feel like pizza or cooking. Highly recommend, but dont be expecting a 5-star restaurant by any means. Seating is cafeteria style with long tables and several 4-seater hard-bench booths (the kind you'd see at Chubbies on "Boy Meets World"). You clean up after yourself, scraping your scraps into a big trashcan and leaving your plates and utensils in a collection cart, but honestly, Griff's wouldn't be Griff's without this kind of self-service!
