We had such a weird experience at Griff's. My husband always gets the catfish plate. Tonight, I just wanted a side that was listed for sale on its own on their menu. When we placed our order, the person who claimed she was the owner said she would not serve us if I didn't also buy a full meal. Thinking it was a simple misunderstanding, I explained that I was not going to eat ANY of my husband's all-you-can-eat catfish dinner. We weren't trying to share it. I wasn't very hungry, so I just wanted some onion rings, which are on their menu. She rudely told us it's against the rules to sell me onion rings (posted on the menu as being for sale) if I don't buy an entire meal. When I said I was confused because we do this option at Griffs a lot, she aggressively told me to buy a full meal or leave. We turned to go, but I guess we didn't run away fast enough because she yelled, "LEAVE! BYE!" while another person behind the counter laughed. We are elderly and felt shaken by the strange level of hostility. It was the scary behavior that bothered us rather than not being able to buy a side order. We went down the road to Uncle Worm's where my husband had a wonderful meal and I enjoyed a side item. Everyone we encountered at Uncle Worm's acted in a CLASSY, polite, welcoming manner. We usually love Griff's and were regulars. But, now I'm afraid to go back again. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS BELOW LACKING= 0/10 The mashed potatoes are Hungry Jack (quick mix), the mac and cheese is Velveeta mac and cheese from the box... So its cheap, crap food. 3 reviews down you'll see a woman who described the staff as rude, and she pegged it perfectly! They gave my husband the wrong order, instead of making things right, then and there - they asked him to put his order in again, and go back to the end of the line. (A line which he'd already been in for 40 minutes.) When my husband decided against waiting and just took the food they gave him, because he was starving, he came home told me about it - I drove back with my plate and got my money back. They did nothing to reconcile the situation, and when I went in to get my money back or to get what we originally ordered they told me what they told my husband. wait. I would be a more frequent visitor if they would CLEAN the place. Went there for dinner tonight, because it's where a member of our party wanted to go. Service was good. Food was not (had the fried catfish, fries, pinto beans, unsweet tea). Place was DIRTY. So much dust on top of tea dispenser I could drag my finger thru it. Silverware holder looked like it hadn't been washed in months. Floors were sticky. Note: Most of the others enjoyed their food. I and another companion did not. This is a neat little old school local restaurant. Yes it is in a gas station but the food is excellent. It is local gathering place. I hope it stays open for a very long time. Would have been a 5 star because it has awesome food and decent atmosphere but the cashier lady is always so very rude and just makes me wish I'd had gone further down the road. This is a roadside diner. I get it. I'm not here expecting world-class service, and a trained sommelier. I do, however, expect a kitchen staff trained in basic food prep and cleanliness principles. I honestly am shocked that Griffs has not been shut down by the health inspector. Every meal I've eaten here (I have Griffs a couple chances to redeem itself, wasted opportunities, all) I have witnessed flagrant lack of hand washing procedures, and general gross behavior, like bare-handed lay grabbing a fry off of a tray of food, and munching on it, while calling out the order to be picked up. Also, the food is about as bland as day-old McNuggets. McDonald's and Sonic are just down the road. Trust me, you're better off. read more

I have been here several times recently and will not be going back to eat. The wait time for food is easily over 40 minutes. I think the most was 50. I question their sanitation practices. I witnessed bare handed touching of prepared food, then wiping their hands on their shorts and delivering the food to the patron while they were eating the food they just prepared. One cook even took her shoe off, dug in it for a bit, then went back to work without washing her hands. Thankfully she put gloves on but dirty hands touching a clean glove still makes it unsanitary. Read the reviews and decided to try them for delivery via grub hub. We were flying in to Waco and needed food delivered to the airport. Received all the confirmations via grub hub. When I landed in Waco I had a message that the order was canceled. Called the restaurant and asked why. Talked to a very nasty rude woman who said the order was for the wrong day. It wasn't. Nasty mean attitude. I decided to order and go with takeout. Asked for basalmac dressing on a salad. Her response "what???? This isn't Sonic. This is Griffs grill". Asked for a burger cooked medium. Her response "what???? Medium??? What???? Food was ok but wil never never return. read more

Just moved out to the China Springs area and have heard from several people how good Griff's is. My boyfriend decided to get burgers for us since we were moving all day. All I can say is if you eat here you will probably get diarrhea and maybe parasites. read more

I have just recently moved to the Waco area and have eaten there daily for the past week. I have tried their eggs with bacon and ordered a pancake instead of toast. I am a huge fan of their pancakes. I have also ordered their burger and it was as good as any hamburger joint in the State. I have ordered their chicken fried steak and it was as good or better than any steak joint where I have eaten in this State. I have ordered their chicken tenders and as everything else I have tried it was like good old home cooking. I was looking forward to taking my wife's family to breakfast in the morning and they said they were not sure because of the reviews. I promised them that the bad reviews must have been from a while back because I have not seen any of the things like, "a kitchen staff trained in basic cleanliness". Every time they have handled my food with a fresh pair of gloves. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes even when crowded and it is more than likely closer to 10 minutes. I have never had or ever worried about footing as the floor has always been spotless. I would recommend this little cafeteria style joint to anyone who loves good old fashion home cooking. I am also looking forward to having many more meals there. And by the way, the price is right. read more

If you are looking for a family friendly environment that is great for conversation and encountering new and familiar faces . Then Griffs is the place to be. It is a classic ,near stereotypical country town dine in that provides delicious home cooked meals and fast service. The cooks will serve you with a smile and a meal that will make your heart happy. The only main downside is the cleanliness of the place, but that comes almost expected with a diner inside a small town like China spring. The restaurant stays pretty tidy, with the exception of occasional grease spots and oil marks on the tables and floors. There are no real complaints overall on the cleanliness of the place just based on the fact that it is a country diner. Overall the place is a great family vibe with some great family food. Expect some grease on you and some burps along the way. Great restaurant , I would definitely and will definitely go there again. read more

Grew up down the road from griffs and have been going there for 23 years and counting. They have great breakfast as well as great burgers and most of all my fav the chicken fried steak! The portions are also huge and they have a ton of sides to choose from. Don't let the outside fool you this place is a gem! read more

Griff's is really just a big gas station with picnic bench seating and a kitchen in the back. The people are very rude and don't seem to care about...well, anything. When I went to pay there was a sign at the register that said "If your on your cell phone your not in my line" seems that's the typical attitude at Griff's. Pretty great breakfast.. but the lady who is usually at the register, whether I'm getting gas or food is always very short and unfriendly.. with me and my mother. After a lot of peer pressure, I gave Griffs another shot. I have to say it was such a pleasant experience I have been back two other times.

This was my first time at Griffs and it won't be my last. I'm not really a burger fan but I was eating lunch with my son so I thought I'd give it a try. Delicious!!! I also ate some of his fries that were crunchy but not over done. Looking forward to going back. read more
