We had steak fingers ( really good, seriously) and 4 large strips- had to give one to my husband and take one to go, chicken strips, quesadillas, and Philly cheesesteak sandwich, fries and okra. They have the style fries I like, they seem to have a slight flour coat or something. Just enough crunch but not greasy or over fried. Finished it off with blackberry cobbler it was just as good as the rest of the meal. We will return next trip to town. read more

I'm so sad to say that we don't go to this restaurant anymore. The last few times that we've been there the water tasted like pond water. And we mentioned it to the waitress and she said "oh everybody says that" she was really nice, but there's a lot of turnover there and the food has gone downhill as far as the quality. It's really sad because we really used to enjoy going there. But if the water tastes that bad and the soda tastes like they haven't cleaned the machine in a long time....then that's the water that they cook with!! It's just not appetizing to go there. I hope that one day it will change and we will be able to try to go back again because we really like the little country atmosphere and it's sad because we really used to love that place. read more

You walk in and there are lots of people enjoying their meals-really good 1st impression! I had the nachos, and good GRIEF!! They were HUGE!~ but so very GOOD! My husband had the quesadillas~ which looked really good also. I ate as much of my nachos as I could, but my husband ended up eating what I couldn't. I had the Oreo pie, which was also very good! This is a nice breakfast stop in Waco. Away from the throngs at the Silos. A nice size dining room and some great breakfast options. My daughter had the chicken tenders and pancakes. She said the tenders were really good. The pancakes were huge and she had to take some home for leftovers. I had the combo and asked for crispy bacon. They delivered! Listen they sale burgers under false advertisement and the owner knows online menus doesn't line up with actual prices we ordered 2 mushrooms and Swiss a order of onion rings and fries for our basket with 2 drinks order came over 55$ dollars we won't do this again . Brown House Café an all American. My wife and I just went to have lunch there on 8/11. This place rocks. I had the club sandwich at 10.95. It comes with chips, but I went ahead and opted out for some onion rings. The sandwich is large and plenty of onion rings.. My wife had the build your own omelette, fresh vegetables, and cheese. Her meal was just as big as mine. This is a great place to go if you're on a budget. The restaurant was clean. The service was very helpful and knowledgeable about their menu. What caught my eye was a large selection of pies. So I chose the peanut butter pie that topped off the meal. That pie rocked as well. So the next time you're going thru Woodway TEXAS you need to stop at the brown house Café they won't let you down. read more

I love this place... we come here a few times a month at least. The service and the food are always good and the prices are fair. My only BIG complaint is that it's always freezing in inside this restaurant, to the point of where it's uncomfortable, and it makes it hard to enjoy your meal. If I can make a recommendation, I would say get ceiling fans so that you don't have to run the air conditioner nonstop on a low temperature. -1 star for this read more

What a treasure hidden away in a strip mall in Waco! From the minute we walked in the door the service was attentive and positive. And the food! My husband got a HUGe portion of their chicken fried chicken - delicious and 2 servings full. I got the club sandwich and onion rings. Once again, the portions were huge and I ended up getting two meals out of it. The onion rings weren't my favorite and I'd probably pass on them next time, nothing wrong with them just my personal preference. Prices were very fair. We will definitely stop here again when traveling through. read more

What we make at home honestly is a bit better, but we were out of town, and this was good. Improvements on what I had would just be a better quality bacon and slightly thicker toast. Over easy eggs tasted slightly poached like maybe they steam them some, no seasoning but you can add your own S&P if you'd like. The lunch and dinner foods are great. Been back twice! The best meatloaf I've had at a restaurant! And I've looked for even a mediocre meatloaf! There's is great! Steaks are great and the steak fingers are unbeatable! Super nice and accommodating staff! My only regret is that the breakfast is not good. Can't do over medium eggs they were very poor. For a good while we had stopped eating here due to decline in service and food quality. I was pleased when by chance we decided to go there for breakfast. Service and food were excellent. I do it know what happened. Our last visit ii iii fine-in the food was ok but waitress was not very attentive. No drink refilled until we were leaving. But we frequently got take out. The past several orders the order was wrong. I have Sjögren's which causes difficulty swallowing. I asked for extra gravy and got zero. The last and final order we had ordered french toast with poached eggs vs fried. The bread was thin, flat, too brown on one side and for the thin bread surprisingly dry. The eggs were in a cup floating in water and instead of poached easy as ordered (which means liquid gold for yolk, they were boiled rock hard. The chicken fried steak was over-cooked, again no gravy. Shrinkflation evidently hit the meat as well unless it is because they were in the grease too long. The fries were cold and old. This was not a late close to closing order, but just before 6pm. We were on our way home from the doctor. My daughter and husband were in the wheelchair van waiting so I just took the bags and out either them. It is medically difficult for her to be out. Had I been able to check the order It would have been a refund with food left on table. Totally unacceptable and exactly the very opposite of what had been ordered. I was happy when they had improved food and service. We ate both in and takeout frequentl. I had also recommended this place to others. ow I'm going to have to flip it backwards like my orders and say I don't"t recommend. What a shame and a waste of time, money, and food as it was so inedible it went to trash. When you are homebound with disabilities you are often stuck with what you get as you can't just take it back. So that is not an option for us, neither should we drive across town. They got 2 stars because the little girl who sent my order back was sweet. But this has been a mistake. The mess we got the prior order should have warned us not to eat there again. When it first opened we went all the time. Service was friendly and the food was great. In the last few years I have noticed a change and with that change we don't frequent like we used to. If we use the drive thru our order is always wrong and the food is cold by the time we get home. We live about 7 mins away. I think it's time to just stop going. My elderly parents ran into a snarky drive thru employee recently and that made me sad. My parents have loved Brown House for a long time too. I told them not to go back. The first sensation I had was the delicious smell that hit me on the way in!!! I ordered the chicken omelette with spinach added. These came with pancakes. Also a side of hash browns. Biting into the chicken omelette was absolutely fabulous. I am sometimes allergic to some quesos, so I ordered it on the side. The queso is to die for! The next item I tried was the pancakes. Soooo much better than anywhere I have had in Waco - comparable to California. Every bite is true ecstasy - what can I say more? My husband had sausage and the sausage did not disappoint. I ordered their catfish special to-go about a month ago. The catfish was hot and delicious but the fries and hush puppies were cold. I assumed they'd been prepared at lunch and put in my to-go box that evening. I called to complain and the person on the phone said "I don't know why they do that". I told her if I were sitting in their restaurant I would have sent the food back (which I've never done in my life) but it was that bad. Fast forward to today. I thought I'd give them another try thinking maybe that had been an off day for them. I even explained what happened last time and asked they cook the food fresh so all is warm, HOWEVER, I just had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE....except the catfish was not very warm tonight in addition to the rest. Brown House Cafe is a quaint, cute little diner that serves up healthy portions of yummy food! I've been here several times while visiting family in Waco and have never been disappointed. My go-to is the chicken omelette, which comes with queso, avocado, and salsa and a GIANT side of pancakes. It's the perfect combination of savory w/ the omelette and sweet w/ the pancakes. I'll be honest, if I had written this review the first time I came here, I would've given five stars instead of three. My chicken fried steak was hot, fresh, and fried to perfection, my french fries were the perfect texture, and the green beans! I had never tried anything like them. I came today, however, and was let down. While the green beans were the same as ever, the service was a little disappointing. We were sat immediately, got our drinks very soon, and were ready to order pretty quickly. I'm disappointed to say things took a little bit of a nosedive afterwards. We were sat somewhere we could see the counter, and about 10-15 minutes after I ordered, I could see my meal on the counter under the heat lamp. It took another 35 minutes to actually get my meal on the table, and by then, it had been sitting under the heat lamp for so long the butter in my packet was totally melted--before I even opened it! My meatloaf was cold (although flavorful), my onion rings were soggy and bland, and never in the hour and a half I was sat here did I ever get a refill on my coffee. Sure, it may be little things, but my meal was cold and bland when I know Brown House Cafe is capable of so much more. I was really disappointed coming in today. I hope I'm not the next time I go here, because I really do love this place and hope it succeeds. read more
