I swore I thought I wrote a review on this place years ago. Anyhow, this is my favorite soul food place in the country. Anytime I'm passing through, I try to coordinate the timing to eat here. Glad it's far enough away so I don't eat like this too often! Very few places make good dressing and Mac n cheese. I like their baked chicken. Wished their hours were longer and they served breakfast. I could see fried potatoes, hot sausage and salmon croquettes in my future! Good local place. Has a wonderful hometown vibe. Reminds me a local run Luby style one, two or three meat plate. Good place if you want some quick home cooked food. The biggest negative is you are limited to what was prepared. For my visit we finished the last pork chop leaving one member of the party with one less option. The waitstaff was polite and efficient. In all of my Waco pit stops over the years, I've wondered where to get something other than fast food or chains (or Magnolia stuff) off of 35. Well Sascees has come to the rescue! It's a small, homey, soul food restaurant featuring a buffet full of the day's offerings (ie oxtails, fried chicken, black eyed peas, collard greens, etc). I had a veggie plate and everything was hittin! I don't like my greens or cornbread really sweet an Sascees delivers on both. And the staff was sooo nice! They were out if a couple of entrees on my visit (tip: go early!) so we were offered free bottled drinks to make up for it. Not even necessary bur very appreciated! Will definitely return on my next ATX road trip. read more

Absolutely delicious. Generous portions, many choices and everything was tasty. 5 of us ate here and everyone loved what they got. Chicken fried steaks were large and crispy. Had really been wanting to try this place for a while now the reviews are great and really do not know why? Food was overpriced $20. a plate with a drink!! Got the 1 meat special with two sides, potato salad was too sweet, The greens they were undercooked and dry and bland (let's just say I will stick with my own greens). The smoked chicken was just plain dry and no flavor!! The lady that just throws your food in your to go box needs some more training in customer service!!! Oh My GOODNESS!!! Best home cookin in Texas! My mom and I stopped by on Monday, our first day in Waco, and George greeted us warmly and apologized for being closed. But he chatted with us, recommended a good burger spot, Double R, and sent us off with some buttermilk pie! Best darn buttermilk pie I've ever eaten! So we came back Tuesday and oh my... it all looked so yummy. I had beef necks and smoked sausage, Mac n cheese and cabbage. My momma had fried chicken, squash casserole, cabbage and mashed potatoes. We got dessert to go... peach cobbler and banana pudding, and 6 smoked sausage to take home to our hubbies!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you stop here and eat when in Waco. Found Sascee's via Yelp while on my Sunday Excursion in Waco. Hospitality at its finest! Small in structure, big in flavor and love. The buffet style line gives off an old school buffet feel, yet your served with love. The staff is welcoming, flavors are fresh, and portions are plentiful. Feel a bit bad as I didn't snap any pictures, however I was a bit hungry after my ride down from FW. Food pick.. Oxtails, Cabbage(cranberry sauce on the side), Dressing, Yams, Carrots. I have a fairly strict no chain restaurants when we go out of town. Almost always pays off and really discover some great local places. Had an ahhmazing southern lunch at a little hole in the wall place called Sascees in Waco today. Fall off the bone smothered pork chop, sweet potatoes, squash, cabbage, cornbread and sweet tea. Let me start by saying, it's not for everyone. BUT... if you are into home cooking, LARGE portions, amazing customer service, and darn good people, it could be the place for you. The vibe, looks like a hole in the wall on the outside, feels like an old church diner on the inside. How they describe it: it's a buffet, but not. You can pick from a couple of rows of meats and sides starting at $15 depending on the number of meats you want 1-3. It's really not the most amazing food in the world, but southern home cooking...hits all the marks. Food: -Salisbury steak: I would skip this one -Mashed potatoes: YUM. Loads of butter, I'm sure. -Fried Chicken: quite good. Only dark meat (at least when we were there) and well seasoned. -Cornbread: Comes with the meal, was airy and great! -Fried cabbage: Not bad! I've never had it with more of a hint of sour, but it worked. -Rice: well cooked, not too flavored Service: They went above and beyond! It was our first time so we just wanted to split a 3 meat plate, but of course, being a nice southern elderly gentleman, he loaded our plate, made fun of us for splitting, gave us plates to share, and walked around later and snuck my toddler more food. It is a bit warm in there during warmer weather - they have fans, but you'll probably be a bit warm. Will be a must stop for me anytime I'm in the area. read more

What a find traveling through Waco. I was born and raised in the gulf south and this food is an awesome reminder of the food I grew up eating. Great hole in the wall for a fix to your soul food cravings. It's not all you can eat but an 11 dollar with get you a meat/rice and 2 fixin's. During our visit they had smothered pork chops, beef tips and chicken n dumplings. The pork chops were cooked perfectly, fall off the bone tender but was on the salty side. The beef tips were also good. The corn was sweet and crisp and not soggy and bland typically of these corns. The green beans though were bland. Overall don't let this hole in the wall pass you by on a great place for grandma's cooking. read more

We walked in Sunday. There was someone there to greet us and directed us to the back. It's a setting kind of like buffet; however, there is someone serving you. Your choice of 1,2 or 3 meat plus 3 sides. Oh my!!! I had fried chicken, side of squash, mashed potatoes and dressing with cranberry sauce and giblets gravy. From the very welcoming service to the last bite of banana pudding, Sascee's is a delight. Everything is clearly made fresh and with love. I felt like I was back at my grandmother's kitchen table. They have a classic "Meat & 3" menu. Smothered pork chops were tender and tasty. Sides like collards, black eye peas, and okra are flavorful without being overly fatty or salty. I cannot say enough about this place! Parking can be scarce, and don't let the outside of the building fool you. Inside the people and the food are an absolute treasure. My husband and I visited on a Sunday when we were in town. He enjoyed three meat entrees and sides, and I being vegetarian opted for several of the sides that did not have meat in them. Growing up here in the south, this really is true southern food. It took me back to my childhood. We can't wait for our next visit to Waco so that we can eat here again.
