    Vegetable Platter FRIED GREEN TOMATOES
    Sarah E.

Heard great things about this place, had an OK experience here. No wait for a table, service was fine but we had to ask for things like utensils/napkins, side plates. Food was hot and tasty, love those fried green tomatoes! Reasonably priced; cleanliness could be improved at the tables and in the bathroom. Would return

Ok, so I received an email about All you can eat catfish today and every Friday. So we loaded up and headed to Waco about 15-20 miles away for catfish. We arrived and placed our orders. About 20 minutes later our waitress arrived and said that she had bad news. They were OUT of catfish today. She said that she was confused because she did see some at the window for service to another table. I asked to speak to the manager about the confusion and Megan, the manager came to our table and said they are all out of catfish. I asked if that seemed to be a problem on Good Friday. She said that no they sold out and they have to let it thaw and marinate for 11/2 hours. So I said this was a "kitchen management issue" and she rudely replied with an attitude they were busy today. I looked around the restaurant and counted 5 tables with people at them at 6:15 on a Friday night, when they had just email blasted everyone in the world mid-late afternoon today. They may have been busy at lunch but let's be honest, you have had 5+ hours to defrost catfish that three tables in my earshot were trying to order for dinner on Good Friday, it's lent Cotton Patch, Poor planning and poor managerial response Cotton Patch. Shouldn't you take notice of your one star rating on YELP???

The Burger was good but the steak bowl was very disappointing. It was $19 but the portion was incredibly small, I think it was one of the most expensive items in the menu, if not the most and it was really small. We kind of regretted going, especially because so many people recommended us to go.

In particular the deviled eggs and Brussels sprouts caught my eye, unfortunately the latter was sold out so I went with the sweet potato Both dishes I had were really good! The candied bacon paired really nicely with the creamy deviled egg, the hot sauce vinaigrette didn't add too much flavor, but honestly adding a significant amount of heat would've probably taken away from an already very tasty dish. The baked sweet potato on the other hand had a nice dose of heat from the Calabrian honey vinaigrette, the sweet heat combo worked really, I'm surprised I'd never come across a spicy sweet potato dish before, but I'll definitely have my eye out for it in the future Overall I had a very good experience and will definitely be back for future rest stop meals between Austin and Dallas!

Off its first appearance, the restaurant appears as your classic no-frills, get-what-you-asked for establishment. There is lots of outdoor seating, very fair pricing, and a surprisingly extensive menu; I doubt you'll fail to find something you enjoy here. Overall it seemed like a location that would be bumping in conjunction with Baylor college nights, post church service, or otherwise Waco-oriented affairs. My only complaint was really the smell. We came near close when some workers were cleaning, however there was an apparent chemical stench within the patio, between the inside seating and outdoor seating. My partner ordered the sausage po boy, while I ordered the fried chicken plate, wish mashed potatoes & gravy + green beans. The wait was rather long, which can be attributed towards the chicken's cook time - which might be front scratch. After we got our plates, I certainly couldn't complain. The chicken was decently sized and decadent with flavor. Consistent, strong Cajun spicing littered the tray and chicken, while its interior was extremely juicy and filled with flavor; additionally, it still maintained structure and provided a nice crunch on the surface. The mashed potatoes were equally as enjoyable. The gravy complemented the potatoes well, and established an equilibrium through texture. The green beans however, were not my favorite. They initially appeared fine on the surface, but became watered down and lacking in flavor the farther down the bowl you went. I would not be surprised if these beans were canned. I would certainly find myself eating here again. Its biggest appeals are the prices, genuine quality of food, and disposition. It is not perfect, but it is more than satisfactory. If you cannot get over the minor inconveniences that you may run into here, then you probably shouldn't be eating Cajun anyways.

Served with a perfect burrata with green pesto that was most divine- fresh as can be. Mocktails are always my choice and there's a blackberry mocktail made fresh intensely flavored berries that's a wow. So being from Oklahoma my favorite meal is fried chicken and mashed potatoes. We split a plate and we were not sorry. The perfect little chicken gravy pitcher- piping hot- w a generous helping of sauce served two easily. For desert there's an extensive selection ( including strawberry shortcake) but we opted for just plain latte made impeccably. Congratulations. You've really made America's best restaurant imo! Our server was ok it really was the food that left a bad taste for me. I started with the signature cocktail a lavender lemon drop Martini only to have the server tell me they don't have all the ingredients to make one of their signature seasonal cocktail drinks. Appetizers we had the burrata which was probably the best thing I ate. My guest ordered the Bavette steak frites with Mac n cheese and I ordered the crispy chicken plate. Their fryer went down and we're not able to make the crispy chicken plate so I settled for their burger. My guest received her steak first and tried cutting into it. It was dry, rubbery and chewy. I had to wait 10 minutes for my burger to show up and when I received it the burger was dry overly salty and hard to eat. My fries were also overly seasoned and hard to enjoy. Definitely one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. On top of that they locked the gift shop door so you had to walk around to the front entrance if you were shopping in the gift shop. Service is a 3, food is 1 and experience a 1. 1 star

We started with the "Burning Bush" appetizer (crispy Brussel sprouts w/ lemon garlic aioli). YUM! They had just the right bite to them, and the glaze on them paired with the aioli was delicious! For our entrees we had the Golden Calf Burger w/ sweet potato fries and sriracha aioli and The Weight of Glory Sandwich w/ broccoli slaw. They were both incredibly flavorful and fresh! You can tell they locally source their ingredients and prepare them onsite. The portions are also plentiful, and we left with a takeout box. To round off lunch we tried the special mousse on the specials board (coffee flavored cheesecake mousse). It was so delightful we dug in before I could snap a pic. Just enough coffee flavor paired with chocolate sauce (not hersheys ). The big windows allow for a lot of natural light and lends to a welcoming and warm environment.
