After purchasing nearly $1,000 worth of clothing, my items were placed into the bag without much care. In the past, my Aritzia purchases have been carefully folded and wrapped in tissue paper, which always made the experience feel more special. After standing in a long line to the cashier, I asked the lady cashier for a stock check because the shirt I got had loose threads and no other size on the rack. She found one and they need to get it from the stockroom, which would take additional 5-10min. She gave me instructions to pick up the item at the front of the store, on the Collections rack. I thought I could purchase the shirt and wait for it at the front...but no she sent me away. (I didn't understand why I had to leave the cashier after waiting in a long line, pick up the item I was trying to purchase at the front door area, then go back to the cashier again to purchase the item. What a weird process! Never experienced this with other stores.) I had to reiterate, that I just lined up for 10min and I don't want to have to line up AGAIN. She said, "no, you don't line up again. Just go to the side(front of cashier), and WE'LL take you IN FRONT of the line." Ok, I thought that was fair. I left and waited another 5min-10min for the replacement shirt. Walked back to the side of the cashier, front of the line. There was a different cashier, 1 person in line for purchase, and 1 person to the right at Return/Exchange line. The Cashier didn't acknowledge me when he saw me(like "do you have any question, or I'll be right with you.."). When he finished with a customer, I approached the cashier, explained that I picked up the item from stock and I was told to come back to the front of the line. Then he told me with an attitude that,"you just got here and I need to help the person in line." I further explained that I was at the cashier earlier, but was told to leave to pick up the stock and return to the front of the line. He said, with an eye roll, "well, I didn't tell you that." So I stood in line again, and waited for the 3rd time! When he finished with the customer, he wouldn't assist me, and called the other person in line for returns, avoiding me. So I stepped closer again to the cashier, asking for assistance. He moved away from me to use the other cash register, took the other customer, and told me why he wouldn't assist me, "I don't like your attitude." I was surprised..and I answered back, "you don't need to like my attitude, but you guys should know how to follow your "OWN PROCESS AND PROCEDURES." (It's ashamed that you employ a person who can't deliver professional service, who needs more training to follow Zara's OWN process!!!) Maybe if I was instructed to go back in line after waiting for the replacement stock, I would've decided then if: 1-it was worth the wait to go back in line again 2-additional wait time for a replacement stock 3-or purchase the shirt I originally lined up for, but live with the poor quality of loose threads on the seams and collar. I would've went back in line, in peace, and not be harassed by your own employee. No wonder, you guys have 1.5stars on YELP! It's embarrassing. If more customers shopped online, you're jeopardizing the dying practice of professional customer service, and corporate could close down the store, and jobs would be on the line. Walking into Macy's in Walnut Creek was incredibly disappointing. In a time when most retailers are moving toward body inclusivity and recognizing that beauty and style come in every size, this store feels stuck in the past. The lack of fashionable, accessible options for plus-size shoppers sends a clear message: larger customers are not valued the same as everyone else. Whether intentional or not, that's exactly how it feels. It's difficult not to see this as an outdated and exclusionary approach that reflects antiquated beliefs about who deserves to have attractive clothing choices. Plus-size people are professionals, parents, students, athletes, and everyday consumers with the same desire to shop for quality clothing as anyone else. Yet this store's selection makes it feel like we're an afterthought. In 2026, there is simply no excuse for a major department store to offer such limited representation. Retailers have a responsibility to evolve with their customers. Continuing to marginalize an entire segment of shoppers is just disappointing. While I hope Macy's in Walnut Creek takes a hard look at how its merchandising decisions affect real people, until then, I can't recommend shopping at this location if you're looking for a truly inclusive experience. Every customer deserves to feel welcome, respected, and represented. Right now, Macy's Walnut Creek falls far short of that standard. read more

My wife and I shop here often. They have a decent selection, nice salespeople and good quality merchandise.....HOWEVER....their discount coupons would challenge the patience of a saint! They come in the mail regularly and promise bargains galore, but when it comes to using them.............. "Not valid on merchandise produced in any nation outside the NATO treaty. Not good for items with an "e" in the manufacturer's name. Cannot be used for fashion jewelry if designer ever used illicit substances or for any product containing fabric. Discounts can be applied only on the second Tuesday of any week providing purchaser is wearing mismatched socks. Coupons will not be honored if customer is either inhaling or exhaling. Offer void in any state displaying its own flag." Okay, maybe I'm overstating the restrictions, but sometimes it takes a degree in behavioral science to figure these things out! read more

Do NOT expect help from anyone, even though your prepared to spend hundreds of dollars. I went to the suit section, and for the first time needed some suits. The only "help" I received was a woman who had red lipstick all over her teeth, acting all hung over. She was utterly useless when I talked to her about my size, and was NOT going to spend time helping me. Of course, I head over to Nordstrom and get fantastic treatment, with customer service ready to help mix and match blouses with my suits. When I walked back with all my Nordstrom clothes, I saw the other lady who checked me out at Macy's and said to her" I got some great blouses with those suites" She said " oh, from upstairs" I said, "no, Nordstrom" She said "oh, well that's OK' Macy's loses with customer service. I love most stores in Walnut Creek because the customer service is excellent; Regarding the most recent Chanel service at Macys ... shame. Recently their standards have obviously dropped all the way down to the ground by hiring that inappropriate woman Monzo. Cosmetics are a luxury item and the presentation and welcome are crucial to excellent sales. I first noticed this woman too last Nov 2009 as she wreaked of a dirty cigarette ash tray. I did not let her do my makeover! It was appalling. She was harsh and unpolished. The other gals are terrific and appropriate. I shop at both Nordstroms and Macys but I will say that its in the customer service that will hold me all the time. Clean appearance is important, nice manners and welcoming are a plus. And If I feel invalidated or provoked or disrespected by an employee, I take note. read more

The cosmetic and jewelry departments are poorly staffed, difficult to get help. I don't enjoy the shopping experience anymore--like to go online for most of my shopping....but when I do finally venture out I'm always stunned by how bad customer service is and gets worse all the time....a self-perpetuating vicious cycle because stores cut corners by hiring less people and paying less so get poorer quality hires so that reflects badly on customer service which makes people want to go shopping less, stores make less profit, and then pay less, etc.etc. Another big problem is once I find something I like, they never have it in my size. Just doesn't make shopping fun because I can't find anything, leave empty handed. I like going into a store and find tons of things I like and leave lots of bags but I don't have that experience anymore. read more

If you're in the market for men's clothing specifically suits, this is the only Macy's you should go to. Over the years I've purchased dozens of suits in every price range and service level one can imagine. However, level of service I received in my last three purchases from Jennifer in the men's suit department is unparalleled. She has a way of turning a very impersonal department store purchase into the same high end experience of purchasing a bespoke suit. Most recently I had a challenge with a last-minute purchase I was making & Jennifer bought it to the attention of her manager Darlene, The two of them went above and beyond the call of duty to worked together and resolved the problem before I even set foot back in the store. I don't like this Macy's store, it doesn't even feel like a Macy's if you compare this particular store with the on in downt town SF. Just because we live in suburbia, doesn't mean we want to dress like suburbians. I'd also like to take a minute to talk about the juniors department in Macys...It is a complete mess, I would rather shop at TJ Max anyday then step foot into that department. Macy's - if you are going to charge higher prices and try to compete with high end stores, YOU HAVE TO LOOK AND ACT THE PART. I will not discuss their customer service because there is nothing to discuss, there is basicly no customer service in that store whatsoever. Buyers stay away. The only department that is somewhat descent is the makeup department, but maybe it's just the pretty girls that blind my eye. read more

There was a guy on the store phone that looked like he was lounging on a chaise apparrently too busy to help. I suppose I would be too if I were afforded the luxury of wearing a jogging suit to work. I used to go to this store every month buying clothes and jewelery. But recent marketing policies of macys and this store is making me mad. I had a discount coupon of 20% and spent near 2 hours finding a nice dresses for my friends wedding ceremony. I checked the prices before going to pay, and with my calculation I could save near $140. The cashier said they have a lable called EDV! so I can not use my coupon for them! She said EDV means every day value and I have to pay full price. I also said I was open to jewelry (costume - Nordstrom is one of the best stores for costume jewelry that is still high quality IMO). We set an appt and I cane in and she had reserved a large fitting room and had it filled with suits and separates. Everything in row sizes (I'm a 4 or a 6 based on the designer). Nice job of bringing in both high end and more reasonable prices. No shoes, no jewelry, no outfit suggestions. That was the "style" part I really wanted. Basically for a free service it's a nice time saver to have clothes pulled and ready for you to try on. But that's it. I was prepared to spend a lot of money because I hadn't shopped much in a long time and I ended up with a single suit, a blouse, and a random t shirt I later texted the same stylist to ask if she could pull some options for an upcoming wedding I had to go to. According to her, this Pleasant Hill location had the best selection of the day--and judging by the crowd, plenty of others agreed. It was the busiest of the three stores we visited, and while that meant things were a bit scattered (thanks to customers leaving items everywhere), the merchandise itself was impressive. I spotted a lot of familiar brand names on everything from shoes to clothes to home goods. This store seems like a solid place to find quality items without paying full price. While she was happily exploring, I hung out near the entrance and ended up chatting with a couple of staff members.
