The two times I've been here, the employees have been more than happy to help me, which I have been sooo thankful for. My first visit was when I was in need of shoes to wear for an interview a girl helped me choose the shoe and the color. Today I was in need of basically my first pair of jeans if you can believe it. I was helped by a girl named Lizzy, I believe her name was, as I was told at the register when I asked. She asked if I needed help and she offered to pick out some straight leg jeans in my size. I ended up leaving with a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly thanks to her suggestions and feedback! It was about $138 at the register, which is a little steep for one pair, but I'll happily pay the price for a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly in the waist, fit my 5'1" frame, and feel soft and comfortable and not scratchy at all. I got the 90's Straight in a 25P. (Thank god they have petite lengths!!!) Super happy with my purchase thanks to Lizzy and will be back for another pair eventually :) read more

I've heard great things about Madewell jeans, but I've been hesitant to try them due to the price. I am one year postpartum and decided to finally invest in a good pair of jeans! When I entered the store, I was immediately greeted. I told Lea, a stylist there, that it was my first time in a Madewell store. I let her know what I was looking for. She was extremely patient and knowledgeable, helping me find my size, the jeans that fit me best, etc. as well as a top and a few accessories. Stopped by today as they sent me an invitation for a pop-up with sip and snacks. Showed up and there was no snacks no drinks don't understand what the pop-up. I felt very misled This is false advertising. Spoke to their manager and events manager and pretty much was told to bad so sad. read more

I went in for a return and left with 2 extra pair of jeans! I am new to madewell so any extra help in store for me is great especially with denim. Mariana was super sweet and helpful. The Women fitting rooms were all full so she opened one on the Mens side for me. I went into the store on a Friday and did not expect it to be so busy but the fitting rooms were full and there was a line at the register. The associates were booked and busy helping customers as they try on pieces and requested for another size. I've only visited the Berkeley location (Customer service there is OK) I did read the reviews before making the drive to this WC location and i am glad i did. I avoid ever going into any Madewell. Lol The friendliness of the workers are non existent, unless maybe you look a certain way. You walk in and they aren't busy and they see you and don't say hi. Then I hear them suddenly say hi to another group of people that walk in. Hmmmm I wonder why. Because they look the same. I won't mention race, but it should be obvious at this point. It's pretty much like this even at the San Ramon location in the city center. I don't spend money where I don't feel welcomed. You can at least pretend to be nice. LOVE THE STORE, NOT EMPLOYEES. My mom and I came into the store and I knew exactly what I wanted. My mom and I have been talking about getting my Christmas gift for awhile, but she was always apprehensive about coming into the store because she knew the workers wouldn't be polite. SHE WAS RIGHT. Mind you, my mom has NEVER gone into this store,, but already had preconceived thoughts. Only a small greeting that I didn't hear, my mom said she did. I've been going to Madewell since a store opened in University Village in WA state. Madewell has been my primary shopping place. Today, I just left the store having the worse experience in my retail history. The cashier asked for my Insider email. I repeated it several times but she couldn't seem to type it correctly. Then her very sarcastic co-cashier to her left said in a very rude manner that was she was typing was correct. I've never, ever had issues with my email before today. Then magically, she finally got it right. The rudeness of both cashiers are absolutely unacceptable!! I will never ever go in to this Walnut Creek Madewell ever again!! read more

Today, I went in and Elizabeth was great! They weren't very busy and she went above and beyond to help me. Her manager, Andrea, even offered me my post b'day discount since I did not get any notification in my inbox. They were both so amazing, I ended up buying a pair of sandal and ordered a turtleneck shirt off the internet with even better discount when you order in store. It's a hit and miss at Madewell in terms of service, but this evening, they were amazing and I really want to be sure Madewell knows this. Thank you! read more

I love this location!! Every time I've come to Madewell I feel welcomed in and the employees are very attentive. I have owned a Madewell item... It was truly that. I wore it for at least 4 years. Great new store in WC with rustic retro decor. Sadly the line is currently a bit too Junior for me. Lots of plaid shirts, slouchy sweaters and distressed jeans. Has potential, so I will pop in again soon and see what they have for summer. read more

The store is friendly towards women but I would avoid attempting to order men's. What I thought was a great trade-in opportunity ended up being a runaround. There was no Men's wear in the store but Jahnee signed me up to be an insider, gave me a men's brochure with a 15% off code as well as a do-well code for $20 credit thanks to my trade-in. I was told I would have to look at the Men's clothes online, although she could order it for me. There wasn't anything to browse so I drove back home to Concord to look and online, but during checkout, neither of the codes worked. After the technical difficulties, I tried to call to order, hoping they would remember me from a couple of hours prior, but I was told I would have to be in-store to place the order! I really did not want to have to drive back and forth the same day. If there could be a better way to look at the men's clothing catalog electronically in store that could help. If not, I don't think anyone should try to order men's, no matter how good the promo looks. read more

I am writing this yelp review because I had the best customer service from one of the employees at Madewell. Her name is Andrelli Cunada. If it were possible to talk to the corporate headquarters I would say that they need to take this girl and make her upper management because she is amazing. She's one of the nicest people I've ever encountered in retail. Unfortunately you can't get a hold of Madewells corporate headquarters because they've made all calls go overseas to their customer service in the Philippines or wherever. read more

It's unfortunate to see all the negative reviews, since my experience today was quite the opposite but it was also a unique situation. I scheduled a stylist appointment a few weeks ago to dress shop for my upcoming wedding events. I wanted to make sure we had someone overseeing our shopping time because we were driving up from Santa Cruz. Jahnee assisted me in setting up the appointment on my preferred day, Sunday in the late morning. She said that they did not open until 11, but my group was welcome to come in at 10 so we could have the entire store to ourselves. Of course I said yes! I thought this was so courteous to offer. A few days before my appointment, she called to confirm, and asked what food and beverages we would prefer. Another nice touch! We arrived right on time this morning and were welcomed with warm smiles and a welcoming attitude. There were only 3 employees there, one setting up the store and working around the register (Lauren I believe?), Jahnee who manages these types of stylist appointments, and Britney who was my stylist. They brought us over to our delicious spread of coffee, water, croissants and fruit and then told us the store is ours to peruse and enjoy. Woohoo! I didn't mention this beforehand to them, but I really don't like pushy or aggressive sales people. I like to peruse, try on what I want to try on, and not have a salesperson constantly trying to push another clothing item for me to try on (this is such a common practice when shopping and it's so annoying!). Britney and Jahnee never made me feel pressured and they actually LISTENED to me when I told them what I was looking for. Myself and my guests grabbed quite a few options for myself, and when I came to my dressing room there were 3 or 4 items that both of them had pulled because it met my criteria. Britney is an absolute angel! She didn't hover but she was always there to zip up the back of my dress, grab another size and offer advice on styling, really great suggestions, and crack a few jokes along the way. Jahnee is an absolute professional and very thoughtful, she absolutely did her best to pull pieces that cater to my body type (petite with a large chest - let's just say, it's not easy to shop for!). This is a side note because it is not about customer service per say: fortunately and very rarely for me, I hit the absolute goldmine for clothing options. I usually try on outfit after outfit huffing and puffing with NOTHING fitting. With this try on spree, everything fit perfectly. I owe a lot of that to the employees being mindful of my body type and choosing items that would realistically fit me (along with luck). Not only did I find my wedding ceremony and reception dress, bridal shower dress and reception party dress, but I also left with a full new wardrobe (3 jeans, 6 blouses). All this, with a generous discount because we booked a styling session. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better shopping experience. Their attitudes were so welcoming and I was having so much success with the fit of the clothes, I just wanted to keep trying on more and more. Professional and courteous from beginning to end. I left with a huge weight lifted off my shoulders knowing I had more than a few options to choose from for my upcoming celebrations. Britney and Jahnee, you are retail royalty! I will never forget the amazing experience I had today. I highly recommend booking a stylist appointment if it is appropriate for your shopping needs - you will NOT be disappointed! read more

When I heard there was a Madewell near my area, I was so excited. Madewell is one of my overall favorite brands and I have so many of their amazing pieces. However, when I've been to this location a countless amount of times, EVERY time the customer service is terrible. No one EVER greets me into the store and I have definitely been looked at funny by the employees while shopping. Im spending a good amount of money here, so it would be nice to at least being helped or a greeting into the store. Overall, I suggest not shopping at this location, I'd rather go all the way to Berkeley or San Francisco because customer service is much better there or just shop online. read more

I had a fantastic customer service experience here. Had ordered a jumpsuit on sale that was a size XS. I got it and discovered I needed a Sm. I took my jumpsuit into this location on the off chance they had a small in the store and would be willing to swap it (Final Sale, you know). These ladies went above and beyond to get me the size I needed. I was so grateful! Also, I then tried on every size 26 in the store of Flea Market Flares like a crazy person and they treated me like a sensible human haha! Walked out with a pair of jeans, a skirt, and two tops. Completely agree with other reviewers regarding the customer service. I typically order things ship to store and every time I've been in to pick up my order there are more than four people in line and only one employee checking people out. The other employees are either in the back or avoiding the register. I like their clothes, accessories, etc but the employees have made shopping at their store generally unenjoyable. Whoever the manager is should institute some customer service training! read more

I had the worst customer service experience here. I went in to order something online, an act that usually is a piece of cake. However, I am still living it the experience a week later. I read the employee my style number, she entered it and all my info in without confirming anything with me. It all happened so quickly that I had to check the receipt once i received it. The manager was even watching and never smiled or said anything. My address was wrong. She never once apologized. Instead she called it in without uttering a word to me, then asked for my card. She read all the info on the card including the security code (?!). After she told me that she had to reorder it. Fine, i just wanted to leave by then. When I get home, I realize that the price is wrong, so i called the store asking for the right price. Later, I realize that the price is wrong because she ordered the wrong item. TERRIBLE customer service. Probably the worst of WC. I walked in while passing by because they had a handbags and shoe sale going on. There were maybe two other people in the store, yet not one employee greeted any of us, asked if we needed help or even acknowledged our existence. In fact, the only interaction I saw was a man at the register who was being treated very rudely by the woman at the register and I overheard them arguing. I went to the shoes and they weren't even marked with the price, I was interested in purchasing however no one was willing to help. I wasn't in love with the shoes enough to want to give WC Madewell my business after being treated like that. She was very detail oriented, patient and acknowledged the store was busy and understaffed yet she still managed to demonstrate professionalism and kindness. When this store first opened, the employees were very kind and helpful. However in the past few months I've had quite a few bad experiences with employees being rude or judgemental. Just the other day I went in for a return and the girl at the counter could not seem less enthused about her job. She hardly said two words to me and when she finished and I thanked her, she plastered on a forced smile and turned the other way and said, "Hmph yeah..." Another day I went in to the dressing room while my mom stood right outside my room. When I came out my mom was upset. Apparently one of the employees had approached her as if she was a suspicious character and was surely in the wrong store and asked her what she was doing. All she was doing was standing there! I was very pleased with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at this store. There were three people working on the floor when I was there Even though it was busy, all three acknowledged me and offered their help. Maya (sp?), in particular, was very sweet and helpful: getting items for me from the floor and checking in the back when she couldn't find the size I needed out front. Even though I'm quite a bit older than the brand's target demographic, everyone made me feel very welcome. Checkout was also friendly and efficient.
