Rather than purchase Holiday Gifts for my teenage granddaughters I take them shopping. Today was DGD the Youngers turn...she is easy to shop with...like her mother and grandmother, she knows exactly what she wants. In the Fall she found a sweater here she loved, and after a thorough search of Nordstrom we headed across the street. Only one left in the color she wanted the sweet staff member removed it from the mannequin. She also found a Tee for layering here...again the helpful staff member set her up in a fitting room. Literally just wanted a bag and the girl with a red tube top and a slick back bun (super pretty) was so funny and nice during the checkout process. Then, my friend wanted me to exchange her small bag after she bought something and it was a new worker with her hair up and glasses and she was super kind and let me keep the smaller bag as well. The store is immaculate and fully stocked so that's definitely nice but not one person said hello, can I help you find anything etc. i finally had to go find someone to check on a shoe for me. She never came back to see if it worked or needed another size. I was interested in a few different pairs but never got that far. I walked out without buying a thing but I bought loads online. This is one of the best Free People stores in the greater Bay Area. I live in San Jose and the local FP's near me are not even comparable in terms of selection or service. There's two floors and a lot of the nicer dresses that are mainly online are available here. I don't purchase much at Free People at their brick and mortar stores but I make an exception when visiting this locations because there's so many unique items here. Employees were friendly to me here but I do dress in FP head to toe, most days. Hope that's not the reason why and regardless anyone should feel welcome in the store. read more

When I first read the reviews, I was a little deterred from wanting to visit this location--but whatever, I needed new clothes! So here I was, traipsing my way over to Free People, hyping myself up in my head in the event I come across these legendary "rude" employees, thinking about what I would say to these basic Coachella b*tches, but all that came to halt after I walked in. Usually, when I walk into a store, I expect to be treated like a thief. No, that's not it! I'm just super indecisive so I walk back and forth between racks holding a shirt or some pants, and I get how it looks suspicious but quit asking me "Oh, can I put that in a dressing room?" Like no, can you put yourself in a dressing room and quit asking me questions? However, I did not receive that kind of treatment here today. I was *free* to shop and look around. The assistant at the dressing room was so sweet and lovely! I asked for pants in a different size and she was nice about looking for another pair. Bummer. I drove from Sacramento to this location to do some shopping, with the intention to buy a lot. I walked in and wasn't greeted by either one of the associates working. I shopped for a few minutes still with no greeting or offer of help. One employees seem to be decorating the wall and the other was just ignoring me. I love the fact that the new location for Free People is at least three times the size of their previous location in Walnut Creek. The evening that I walked by, a chalkboard sign drew me in. It said there was a tarot reading class taking place inside the store! Although I didn't participate, I thought that was a cool marketing technique ; ) As I browsed through the store, the associates at the counter were friendly and nice while hard at work. Free People is for free-spirited artists with vintage souls. My goodness, the best stores are the ones I accidentally stumble upon. I never knew Free People had it's own store, and looks like this is a semi-new location with an upcoming SF downtown store in the works. The store interior is lovely, makes me close my eyes and dream of running on a field full of daisies and picnicking on a multi-colored blanket with a flower garland in my hair. If I could buy anything in this store with unlimited funds I'd take away: 1. Textile quilted cloth draped suitcases 2. Belted purses and leather fanny bags 3. Long chain necklace with peacock feathers 4. Soft sheer shirts with embroidered patterns Instead I walked away with a pair of harp string patterned gold hoops. While the clothes are cute, the quality and customer service are horrible. I bought my daughter a gift for her birthday--a very cute sweater top that was $60. The first time she wore the top (one hour into wearing it), the seam under one of the arms completely ripped open. When we called the Free People Walnut Creek store to ask about exchanging the top because the seam tore after one wear, we were told that no returns or exchanges are offered once the tags are off. Very disappointed. Ironically, had we bought the same item at Macy's or Nordstrom, they would have honored the return/exchange. Won't be shopping at Free People again. read more

Cute merchandise at this store but nothing really stuck out to me. I kinda feel like Free People, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie all have the same kind of style. There is about one employee in this store I can stand, and she is the sweetest and most helpful young lady. Three three stars are for her. The rest of the staff is incredibly rude and act like a glorified group of sorority girls. Last time I went in the store, I was in the fitting room trying on a denim romper and an employee said who would ever buy this thing it looks like a "paint smock", loudly. I've been buying free people clothing for almost 15 years. However, I prefer purchasing (if possible) from other stores like Nordstrom, Macy's, or Nordstrom Rack. My experience at this particular store is that they aren't very friendly. Sometimes they don't greet me or say pleasantries before and after my transactions. Is it because I'm brown? I don't know, but they sure are helpful to them other caucasian women in the store. read more

The clothes are fine -- hit or miss -- but wow. The woman at the register could not have been more pathetic. I came in to pick up an item I'd put on hold, and I guess she couldn't understand that, so she gave me this vacant stare, and said, "What?" No "Excuse me, can you please repeat that?" Or "Sorry, I didn't catch that." When I repeated that I'd put something on hold, she said, "Do you want to buy it?" No "Would you like to try it on?" It was late in the day, so I thought maybe I had the store hours wrong and they were actually closing, but there was still 15 minutes left, and to me, that means the store is still open. The other staff people were accommodating and helpful, but whoever is managing the store should weed that dead weight out. read more

Clothes this great deserves service as wonderful as Free People in Walnut Creek has to offer! The ambience in this store is one of the most cool, bohemian, laid back stores I've shopped in. The employees are are fashionable and friendly and are very helpful. My favorite part of the store was the dressing rooms which are draped with sari like fabric and inside there is the cutest couch with pillows on the inside. I almost want to sleep there! After choosing my items I then paid for them and the bags they give you your purchases in are cotton reusable bags that are SUPER cute! They also offer electronic receipts which is pretty cool too! I've become a huge fan and can't wait for the store in Santana Row to open up! read more

I'm a Free People connoisseur. I love the unique style. I feel that the Walnut Creek FP has a more girly- wearable section then the Palo Alto store. I saw a dress in the window a few days ago (of course I forgot my wallet that day.) I went home to where my beloved credit cards were hiding from me and set out to buy the dress online. I called the store to ask for the dress name. The sales girl was super helpful and even went online to tell me the dress was on sale via the internet. Plus I could order the in-stock dress from their store and honor the internet price and waive the shipping fee. Whooop whoop! Great customer service ladies keep it up! I've always been a fan of Free People. Mainly I see it at Macy*s. This was my first time going into an actually Free People store. I loved how it was spacious and light. They don't have a lot of clothes all over the place. Changing rooms are covered with a huge beautiful tapestry rug. On the walls I noticed some yarn art and the walls were covered with cloth. Love Free People and the inspirations they provide to someone with a bohemian soul! This store is located in a great location in downtown Walnut Creek near Broadway Plaza. It is still in the heart of it without being overcrowded. There are a free parking garages located every which way and street meter parking. Next to Urban Outfitters and close by to the Cheesecake Factory and movie theater, this cute little store is hard not to miss. The windows always look great and the girls that work there are very friendly Yes the prices are more on the expensive side but i am always able to find something n their awesome sale section or from their accessory wall. Customer service had me come into the store to deal with it which was frustrating in itself to take extra time and effort on my part because of their error.
