If I could I would give Macy's in Walnut Creek know stars! I normally love Macy's. However the Macy's men's store was so bad I had to write this review. The dress shirts and ties are on the first floor and the suits are on the 3rd floor. No one there seems to care about their job and I can see why. This Macy's doesn't care about their store. If I was writing this about 3 months ago I would give 3 stars for average service by anoyed staff who doesnt want to be there and doesnt want to help you, but after the last time I went I have to give 1 star if that, I walk in as always with my sister boyfriend we are both dressed well nicely groomed and in good hygene, we go to the young mens dept and we remembered we saw a $120 pair of sweat pants at the san francisco macys but they did not have the right size so I asked if they have the sweat pants, the macys employee looked me up and down and said "no, not for you" okay...I let it go...i walked over a picked up a $45 pair of jeans, now thats when it happend, she RAN over and told me they dont have anything for me in the store and they dont have my size and i should leave....(hinting i cant afford those jeans) I left and called the manager on the phone he said he would call me back and he did.. a week later and told me i can have 10% off on those jeans, i said im sorry i dont take hand outs, i went to nordstroms and got the same jeans for $60 and that was the last time i am going to the down town macy's. read more

I will never understand why every December, I choose to wait until three days before the 25th to start my holiday shopping. Furthermore, I will also never understand why this is the time I choose to revisit the Macy's in Walnut Creek which I have only experienced below average service at time and time again. But I do. And I know why I do. Because I, who lives pay check to pay check, have a Macy's card. It's my only retail card and I really should get rid of it. But until I do, it sits in my wallet, tempting me at Christmas time, to get last minute slippers for Grandma, after shave for Dad, and a something only a mother could love from their massive jewelry section. And although the Macy's in Union Square is obviously a little better, it requires a train ride, and the thought of driving myself only 10 min. away and easy parking makes the Walnut Creek option a sealed deal. This last December was no different. Three days before Christmas, armed with an early Xmas gift return(a pair of 14K gold hoop earrings), I found myself once again in a line in the contemporary jewelry section at Macy's. This is the first of many bones to pick with Macy's. Every time I go I seem to find myself in a line with at least a 20 minute wait. What ever happened to walk-up counter service? Oh well. Thirty minutes later I finally had a sales woman's attention. I explained that I wished to return the gift I had received. I said an exchange for a Macy's gift card for the amount of the price of the earrings would be fine. The gift I received had the prerequisite Macy's return tag so I assumed there would be no problem. I was under the impression those return stickers held all the necessary information about the original purchase (the price, the item, etc.). Well of course, I assumed wrong. After a fifteen minute search, the woman returned and explained she didn't have the earrings I had brought in but she did have a $30 pair of silver hoops and could offer me the price of them as a fair exchange. A little offended, I told her the gold hoops I had brought were solid gold and I believe had cost my BF's mother, well over $100. The woman then told me that I was in the wrong section, and would need to try "fine jewelery" on the other side of the store. Gee, thanks. One hour now spent in Macy's, nothing accomplished. I made my way to "fine jewelery" and guess what? Yes, another line. This one a little shorter at 20 minutes, but more bad news. I was told they did not have the earrings I had brought in, in-stock, and they would therefore have to credit me the least expensive pair they had on hand. Now explain to me how this works? Macy's reassures its' customers that as long as their gifts have that little return tag, a gift receipt is not needed; yet I am told differently. A glance at their many gold hoops reveals prices anywhere from $100 to $400. Out of curiosity I ask the sales lady what "comparable" pair she would use. She points to a pair of tiny gold hoops, clearly about a quarter of the size of the ones I had brought. I thanked her and said I had decided to just hold on to my gift for the moment. As I walked away in frustration she called out that I could always try one of their other locations. Uhhh... yeah. No thanks. On a final note, this particular store is always in some sort of disarray. The dressing rooms seem to always be filled with the last shopper's discarded rejects, the makeup counters are a mess, and the perfume testers are often empty. In addition, I can never find any help, anyone to help me find a pair of shoes, or anyone to ring me up. Truth be told, we have better options out there than to settle for the mediocre shopping experience one gets at this over-rated department chain. read more

This place is pretty ghetto. You can't ever find anyone to assist you. The racks are disorganized, so finding your size can be a bit of a challenge. Considering how easy it is to find good deals at other stores where the customer service is much better, 2 stars is more than adequate for Macy's read more

This particular store, in my opinion is the worst Macy*s anywhere (and I've been to a lot of them). The store is small, and doesn't carry a broad range of clothing. The music they play is TERRIBLE (I guess it would be adult contemporary - but it's usually some combination of borderline country pop and Celine Dion) , and they play it at an obscene volume. read more

Awful, awful sales associates! Needed help on sizes for a couple of pairs of shoes, I saw this lady and approached her - she immediately said "no, I can't right now as I am helping 5 other people" WTF?! Didn't even offer to get someone for me. Second experience, ordered something in the mail, i decided i wanted a different color - i called the store to check if they have it. NO ANSWER FOR HOURS! One lady picked up and transfered me to nowhere! I rarely shop w Macys because of this and probably never will! read more

Horrible customer service . I had to return a watch at 6:30 pm and the sales person didn't take it because she said I need my manager's approval and he is gone for the day! I asked for any other manager and she rejected to call anyone else. She could just tell me I am worried about our numbers going down as it was an expensive watch instead of giving me that non- sense excuse . I will never shop there again and I will tell everyone else to stay away from them. The employees are not friendly and they will do anything for not taking your return. Terrible service, messy store, there was no one to help before buying and when I purchased they pushed the Macy's card on me. I used the card then they company handling the Macy's card made a mistake and double charged my checking account. It took two weeks of constantly calling them to get this fixed. Then it took them two more weeks to send the gift card to refund my costs. I cancelled the Macy's card and will not be giving this Macy's my business any time soon. read more

How can anyone have a bad thing to say about Macy's! It's Macy's! This department store in Walnut Creek is fantastic!! (I am an ex-New Yorker)...I found many items for me that fit, were in perfect condition and on sale! The Shoe Department is awesome too! The sales help was wonderful, she saved all my purchases and then helped me with finding more. The store is clean, dressing rooms are large, with plenty of hooks and good mirrors and lighting. Something strange is going on with the lighting at the new Macys in Walnut Creek. I've talked to several other people and have confirmed it. The fluorescent lighting used causes a type of energy drain. Doesn't happen at the other stores on Broadway, just Macy 's. Might want to check it out, Macy, as you have a wonderful new remodel, and great clothing to check out. However, if I have to leave the store 15 minutes to a half hour after getting there, I don't get very much shopping done! And, I bet your goal is not to get me in and out as quickly as possible. Macy's is amazing. You can find anything and everything there! I have a hard time shopping if a store is super loud or super hot but he music is always just right and the temperature inside is always cool. There's plenty of places to sit around the fitting rooms if you are dragging a friend or a significant other and their sales are fantastic. The salespeople are so sweet and really know their products, especially Radwa who I always seek out. She has such great taste and is so helpful! read more

Did find out the shoes were not shipped & still can't get through to anyone to see if they even still have them in stock. I give them an F for phone customer service. Macy"s is the place to go when you see something you like at Nordstrom's but it's too expensive to buy there. Macy's is where I like to get my shoes. If I can find the same shoes that Nordstrom's has then I will get them here. I don't think the service is quite as good and the atmosphere isn't the same but I realize that there is a trade off. read more

I found $14.99 winter coats on clearance in the juniors sections (oddly located in the men's store). You can't beat that. Bought three.

I do not usually shop at Macy's anymore however I thought I'd browse around. Growing up I always used Macy's as the standard for your 'typical' department store. I thought highly of it, and enjoyed shopping there with my friends. However, it is now obvious to me that this Macy's has gone downhill! It reminds me more of a run-down Ross/TJ Max in the bad part of town! Cons: 1. As soon as I walk through the entrance it smells bad. The smell gets worse in tight areas such as the escalator. 2. There is chipping paint everywhere. They furnish their store with outdated furniture that is falling apart at the hinges. 3. The fitting rooms look like a salvation army collection center. No one seems to be cleaning up the clothes left behind which are strewn on the floor or falling off hangers. Not to mention half the doors do not work. 4. Clothes racks are 100% disorganized and not sized. Nor are they arranged in any thoughtful fashion other than lumped together by brand name. Misplaced items are everywhere I look. 5. Lines at the cash-wrap seemed to have at least 3-4 people waiting in line. I waited about 10 minutes to buy 1 item. Not to mention some cash-wraps were completely empty with no sales associate in sight. 6. Variety of merchandise is very limited. I realized they are missing a good number of designer label stuff, and only carry 'knock-off' brands that mimick. They carry Kate Spade watches, they do not carry the clothes or handbags. They have Coach and Michael Kors, and that's just about as close as they get. No Burberry or Tory Burch. They do carry Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, and such but heck you can buy that at Costco too. I guess Macy's is still great for grandma underwear, socks, and sweater sets. Nothing special about that. Definitely cannot shop here if you are looking for up-to-date style. Pros: The lady who wrung me up was friendly, and had the brains to use a garment bag for my items which was nice. But she forgot to remove the sensor until I reminded her. Not a big deal, but could have been bad if I wasn't watching. Overall, I will not shop here unless I really was forced to. It's very sad, really. Broadway Plaza could do better. First off, they are in dire need of a remodel, and secondly they need to improve their visual department with the goal of better laying out their merchandise in a manner than makes fashion sense and isn't an organizational nightmare! Lastly, they need to staff each department more efficiently, and probably should retrain their employees on how to take more responsibility for their surrounding department (ie. size the racks). read more

Worked with a Nadia Thompson on the 3rd floor in house wares and it was a great experience start to finish. I went in thinking I knew what I wanted and she expertly explained to me that there might be better choices than what I had in mind. SHE WAS RIGHT! I got everything I needed and she was very professional and courteous. All in all, I was impressed, and that says a lot before I really hate shopping. Just one day after we had a really bad experience on Macy's Womens' shoe in Pleasanton store, we experienced an incredibly excellent service in Macy's Women's Shoe and Watch department in Walnut Creek store. The service man, William, in Woman's shoes is really patient and attentive. My wife were trying shoes he brought to her and tried to walk around. He told my wife to go ahead and he will watch her handbag so she did not have to worry. When my wife told him about the other Coach shoes she found yesterday in Pleasanton store without the right size there, he went to shoe racks to try to find if there is any match one to my wife's description. I notice that other service persons are also very nice and patient when helping customers. This store is really well-managed and all persons are trained to make customers happy. The shoe department service we received here is nothing less than what we usually received in Nordstrom whose shoes usually cost much more. I think driving 20+ minutes to shop here is totally worth the efforts with the excellent services. We moved on to shop for a Movado watch. The service lady, Sue, also provided us a wonderful experience. She is very nice, friendly and always smiles. She worked patiently to show us different selections without giving us any pressure. Once we decided the one we like, she offered to adjust the watch belt size free. She actually cut off the extra pieces and shorten the size by herself while we were waiting. The first attempt made the watch too tight. She went back again to lengthen it. All the time she serviced us, she is always very pleasant. Now we feel that this is the best place to shop for watches. The Walnut Creek Macy's managers should pat on their own shoulders for doing such a good job to create a friendly and nice environment for customers. Their employees working on the floor should get a rewards for doing such good jobs. read more

i had to return some items that the wife purchased online. i thought it would be easy enough since the receipt stated i could return online purchases at any macy's location and at any counter. this was not the case at the wc location. i went to the mens macy's, since i had womens clothes the counter person said i could not return return it & that i had to go to the womens macy's. now at the womens macy's, im walking towards the counter, the girl behind the counter sees me coming and leaves to chat with a coworker while leaving me waiting at the counter. when she returns, after i had to ask for help, she tells me i can only return the clothes at this counter and not the boots my wife had also purchased. i would have to go to the shoe dept, ugh.. don't shop here. read more

The sales staff at the Walnut Creek Macy's are exceptional! I have had to buy clothes here on three separate occasions in 2015 and all three times I have had a great experience at this location. The sales staff have been super welcoming, pleasant, helpful, and they actually made a horrible shopper who normally dreads shopping enjoy the experience! I hate to admit it but I happily tried on clothes for over two hours today and walked out with things on sale which never happens. I went to the men's department initially because I was also shopping for my husband. I was very surprised when I cut through the men's department on my way to the parking garage to be stopped by a sales associate because she located the item I was looking for 2 hours prior and remembered me! That's amazing customer service! I will be shopping at this location from now on because the sales staff made all the difference! read more

I really like this store. My problem was with something I ordered online. I ordered a sweater online to prevent having to go downtown in that crazy traffic. Sweater arrives, beautiful, except it still has the magnetic tag on it. So now I have to go to the store and get someone to get that thing off the sweater. Apparently that tag need to be removed at a different part of the store. So my advice, make sure if you order online, that all tags are removed. By the way, make sure to bring your receipt with you or it will seem like you didn't pay for it. Happy shopping! read more

I've been shopping at Macy's for years and have no issue returning or exchanging as what other's have been complaining here about. What's true is that they are understaffed. You can wander the whole women's floor and find 2 or 3 salespeople working there. And if they do have some sales people, most of them are not that fluent in english. I don't have anything against other nationalities as long as they can express themselves well. I was looking for a product one time in Macy's Orlando when we used to live there, and the saleslady returned and told me "we out!" I didn't understand her. She just kept on repeating, "we out, we out!". Then I realized what she meant, is that it was out of stock. In Macy's Broadway Plaza, where I shop since we live now live in this city, I also got irritated a few times when they used to have these asian sales ladies, not sure about their country of origin, when they would be very noisy talking and laughing out loud in their language, that it really ruins your experience. I don't have anything against their language. They should be told to lower their voices down. I do visit May's Sf, and it seems they still have these ladies there. No offense meant, as I said, but being able to speak good english is necessary when you have to constantly deal with customers. Lastly, with all the beautiful music available these days, I always hear the same old pop songs. From Elvis Presley, Britney Spears, and old and new bad pop music. Why not subscribe to Spotify or Pandora, or if they don't have a budget, make a playlist of chill out and jazz music. The music of Paul Hardcastle and other jazz artists would be classy, lively and pleasant for a shopping atmosphere. Actually the music in the streets of Broadway Plaza is so much better. I took a shot writing this review hoping they will read it, and make some changes. I love the lay out of the store, and I love shopping in person. But because of these experiences, I hardly go to their store in person these days. I just buy online and only go to the store if I have to return something. read more

Purchased Chanel product in early November and was told that they would be having some makeup artist coming in for a special event and would I like to come and have my makeup done. I thought ok sounds great and they said that I could bring someone with me. I was given an appointment time for myself and a friend. We arrived for our appointment 2 PM on this Event day. I saw the sales associate "Eva" and told here we were here for our makeup training. She directed us to these director stools which we sat and waited. Another young sales associate came over to us and said that she would start taking my makeup off. Once completed we sat in the chair and waited for the makeup artist. My friend still waiting for someone to assist her with her makeup removal. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes "45" minutes sitting there with no help in my case no makeup on and my friend with no assistance. I looked at her and said I'm done....I got up and walked out no one even notices. Once I got home I sent an email to Macy's to complain about our experience. No Response!!! Three weeks later I was in the area and I decided to ask to speak with the Manager of the cosmetic department. She was a nice Russian lady who was very apologetic and took my name and number. Within 10 minutes I received a call from Eva who said that they were so busy that day however; if I come back in to Macy's today they can do my makeup. I told her I had already left the store, she they said she would give me makeup samples. I told her no thank you I then asked her to send an apology letter to my friend who came on Bart all the way from San Francisco for this appointment. I gave her email address and as of today two weeks later "NO EMAIL". This one employee just doesn't get it..... Anyone who purchases cosmetics should not purchase them from Macy's Walnut Creek. Give your business to Nordstrom's they always provide the "Best Customer Service". read more
