The day after Christmas, my husband and I went for a stroll in downtown Walnut Creek and decided to stop into Macys just to look around. We were not there to buy anything at all.
As we passed the Jewelry counter, I saw my Aquamarine birthstone set in a few rings. Since I never had one, I was curious and stopped to admire the artistic designs and the beauty of the stones.
A very kind woman by the name of Caryll E. smiled and asked me if I had any questions or if I would like to see something in the case. I usually tell people no, because I don't like the pressure that can happen with sales people. But because of her gentle demeanor, I felt comfortable enough to go ahead and ask her about the ring with my stone.
She showed me a few that were very interesting and I because it was just Christmas, I had to remind myself that I could not really afford to buy a ring.
Then I saw it. I saw the perfect ring. I wanted it. But I just could not buy it right now. So I had to decline.. I told her that I'd have to think about it and if so, I'll come back tomorrow.
My husband and I walked out of the door, we got into the car. We sat there in silence for a while when suddenly, my husband says to me, "You know, you can have that ring if you want it. It's on sale."
He told me that we should go back in there. I went back in, looked at it again and I was hesitant. We really shouldn't be spending more money after Christmas.
Caryll looked up at me and even though she was closing down shop counting inventory, (at the time I didn't realize that's what she was doing, or that it was closing time) she stopped what she was doing and came back to me. "You're back!" she said.
She came over to me, pulled out the ring that I liked and went and cleaned it up. She handed it to me with a loop and told me that I can look at it again.
She did not rush me, she did not pressure me. Her co worker, on the other hand, was kind of pressuring HER.. they were closing and had things to do. I felt bad when I realized and I offered to come back tomorrow but she said not to worry.
This kind lady not only made sure that I was happy with my purchase but she did it all with a smile, even though her co worker kept glancing over at us, and not in a very warm way. I can be easily intimidated by someone like her co worker and I would have left because I didn't want her mad but again, Caryll was very patient and very, very nice... very sincere. And here's the key part: It wasn't because she was trying to make a sale. The ring was not very pricey compared to the others. It was probably the cheapest one there. Caryll is genuinely nice. She wanted ME happy.
Caryll is one lady who sure brightened my evening, just for her being... HER.
If you want to be treated with respect and not feel like you're a thorn in someone's side, go see Caryll in the Jewelry dept. She's real. She's not fake. Awesome lady.
Thank you Caryll. I love my Aquamarine ring. No regrets. read more
