I visited this restaurant on 3/11/25; and was extremely turned off. I had high hopes of finding a sushi restaurant for a good deal but after my experience, I don't think I'll be returning. *I want to preface this by saying that I don't think ALL the servers here do this.* My server in particular was very sweet and was not the issue here. Another server who brought out my food was carrying my plate of food in his hand and proceeded to cough into the hand carrying my food. To make matters worse, another server was stacking plates of food that was to be SERVED to customers! Not stacking empty plates to clean a table, but literally stacking dishes on top of one another- the bottom of plates were touching food. I cannot be more clear. I really tried my best to keep a positive, hopeful attitude but after what I had witnessed- I decided to speak to their manager. I did emphasize that it was not my particular server and I did point out the specific servers. The manager proceeded to apologize and explain that they are a new restaurant and are busy. She gave me a coupon for boba. But after what I witnessed, why would I ever step back into this establishment when it was clearly very unhygienic The food: mediocre, I think once you've been spoiled with high end sushi, this may or may not be your cup of tea. Their sushi rolls were alright. I also ordered their udon dish with beef because it looked really good, but unfortunately it was one of the plates stacked under another plate of food. The calamari was mid- it was mostly just the squid tubes, not the mini octopus/tentacles you might see in other calamari dishes (or at least that was what my dish was like). As far as AYCE sushi places this is a 5 star for me. Please take this review in relation to other ayce places. The sashimi is quite thick and tasted great to me. Service was also super fast! We had 11 people and I started getting my sushi before the other side of the table finished ordering. Rolls were pretty good too! I would skip the boba though not good enough to spend money on. My friend said there aren't enough bathrooms for the capacity. The vibe is a great casual place. Can't go wrong! read more

Orders took forever and we kept having to repeat our orders to the waiter. We even overheard another couple complaining to a waiter about lost items and receiving orders they didn't order. I understand it's their soft opening but it felt way too chaotic and unorganized. Also it's crazy they only have one bathroom for an AYCE place. One last thing, I saw they had a lot of 5 star reviews before going; however, this morning all of them were deleted. I'm guessing they were away free boba in exchange for a 5 star review. This place is a bit of a story for me. I first found out about it when my sister went and told me how much she loved it (shout out LaPeshaa C *hearts*). I wanted to go but never found the time. I planned on going one day after work, but one day (today 8/19) I had to run an unexpected errand and since I was out during rush hour I figured I should go. It was about 15 minutes from where I was going, plus I realized they wouldn't be open when I left work later in the week. So I fought traffic to and made it in a bit over the estimated 15. I was immediately greeted by a cheerful young lady who instructed me to go to the to go bar to place my order. As I was walking up, I noticed 2 places she might have been talking about. As I slowly walked to deciper, a guy was standing behind the closest bar staring at me with his arms crossed. I walked up and he didn't say a word. I let him know (more quizzically) that I wanted to place a to go order. He pulled out a mobile order machine and just stood there. So I started my order and he told me to hold on. I waited while he punched the buttons then said "ok". I gave my order and he asked if that was it. I said yes and he said "ok". He did ask if I wanted a drink while I waited, I declined, got another "ok" then was left alone. I looked around the restaurant and noticed there was a lot of employees standing around. A shocking amount of employees. They weren't incredibly busy, but to have that many people just standing around on the periphery just seemed a bit odd. I looked for a bathroom but the signage was a bit misleading. The restaurant is connected to a hotel; and I realized this is the old Blue Moon! I went back and forth looking for the bathroom for a bit before an employee of the restaurant pointed through the restaurant and told me to ask another employee. I went over and saw another sign for the bathroom. Going in, it was warm inside but relatively clean. Not a place I'd be uncomfortable using the facilities. I wasn't there long and by the time I made it back to the bar my order was ready. The guy handed me my bag and took my card. Never saying a word. I had to let him know I pushed to have my receipt printed. It was like he didn't want to assist me. I don't know if I can say he was rude but definitely odd...to the point that he made me uncomfortable. I was glad to get out of there and away from him. In the car I checked my bag to make sure everything was there (as one does). The first thing I noticed was the bad was wet. It had soaked through to the outside. At first I thought it was one of the condiments but then realized it was the sauce from my Hamachi. Upsetting. Then I thought I was missing my order of red snapper sashimi but then realized it was put in the same container as the Hamachi. I wouldn't have done that because you wouldn't want the sauce from the Hamachi to get on the red snapper but since the sauce from the Hamachi was soaking into the paper bag I guess it didn't matter. When I got home I was still very excited to try the food. But it was more of a let down. The Hamachi was good and probably would have been better with the sauce. The red snapper was probably the highlight. It was fresh and firm. The double spicy roll was a COMPLETE AND TOTAL LET DOWN. The best thing to say about thing I can say about this roll is that the rice and sauce is good. Outside of that, the main ingredients of the roll were a disappointment. The spicy tuna on top was a weird texture and wasn't spicy at all. I know because I dissected the roll once I saw the most egregious atrocity which is that the "crunchy spicy crab" was imitation crab (which it doesn't state online and the picture doesn't show) with a crunchy mixture layer laid on top. Without the sauce there is nothing spicy with this roll. Being that I abhor imitation crab this was a complete waste of money for me. I would have never gotten it if I'd known. Overall, the averageness of the food coupled with the weird guy at the bar, I can't say this place is a must for me. It's out of the way and I could find much better quality at the same price point. I would like to come back to try the all you can eat since my sister loved it, but going ala cart and making this a go to is a no for me. read more

It's important to note if you want to sit in the instagram worthy main dining area you need reservations but the enclosed patio was also perfectly fine just not as done up as the main area. This was the first time I have done an all you can eat meal option and it was a lot of food choices for a great dinner price of $38 per person. For our party of 2 we had a little bit of everything: crab rangoons, gyoza, hibachi steak, 3 sushi rolls, chicken yakitori, and 2 tempura desserts. We took black milk tea to go as you cannot take any food or leftovers w you. The pace of the food coming out is pretty great as well, if you start w apps and maybe a roll, it comes to the table as it's made so there's something to continuously snack on. On the outside this place is a little lack luster. It's right next to a hotel so driving in was a little confusing. But inside was gorgeous and nicely decorated. They even gave a little robot that serves drinks and is so cute. The service was great. The all you can eat had nice options. My only problem was probably the sushi I had. It wasn't the best. The fried rice and sides I had were good. But the deep fried salmon roll wasn't good of the salmon skin. Everything needed more sauce and something different. Let's talk Machi Sushi! I'll start by saying the décor was on point--beautiful, eye-catching, and the kind of place that makes you think you're in for a real treat. But sadly, the magic started and stopped there. We began with appetizers, which were...decent. Nothing spectacular, but they did the job. Then came the sushi. Some of the pieces were okay for the $25 lunch price, but the eel was a letdown, and the quality just didn't have that fresh feel. I even had a mix-up on a hand roll order; I pointed to it on the menu, but because I didn't verbally specify, they brought a regular sushi roll instead. Lesson learned, I guess? Unfortunately, the roll I received wouldn't even make it past HEB's sushi counter, so expectations took another dive. I get it, for $25 AYCE, we're not talking high-end fish here, but it felt like they weren't even trying. Now, dessert had its own issues. The fried Oreos came out burnt beyond recognition--think charcoal. The ice cream was actually nice, so there's a tiny silver lining there. In the end, I'd have to say it's the "Golden Corral" of sushi. If you're looking for quantity over quality, it's an option. However, if you're seeking quality, flavorful sushi and such, I'd say skip it. read more

They don't take reservations and we went at 1pm on a Sunday and it was packed. We went for my daughter's birthday. The service was outstanding, our waiter was very attentive and it seemed like they started bringing the food out before we were even finished ordering. The girls had several rolls and the individual sushi/sashimi pieces, and the birthday girl tried the peach flavored saki. Better than regular but very sweet. The atmosphere was fun and the waiters sang happy birthday and brought her a present, in addition to ice cream with fried oreos! I wish I could say the sushi was great but the atmosphere made up for it. My sister ordered the hibachi and they brought some of every kind. We loved the salmon and egg rolls, and the teriyaki chicken appetizer was good. Would I go back? Probably not. For just $35/person the all you can eat sushi was so damn good. As said previously they also have lots of other options besides sushi like chicken/beef takoyaki, miso soup, mushroom soup, seaweed salad, etc. and it was all great. Our server River was also very attentive and fortunately we weren't charged any extra for the few pieces of sushi we couldn't finish because we were all impossibly full by the end of the experience. They also don't do any "gotcha" policies like only having sushi and ensuring you eat the rice so you get fuller faster because they openly offer the choice to just have the fish by itself. I had no idea that there was an all you can eat sushi spot in Austin. The restaurant was full with people waiting outside large tables to accommodate many birthday parties. It's true, you can pick anything from the menu. At $35 for all you can eat (but you must eat it) It's a bargain. Our server was fantastic. He told us what items were recommended and how many things we should select. The sushi was quite delicious. In addition to sushi, we had udon noodles and soup and roasted vegetables. I get that they were busy, but at one point, I waited ten minutes after ordering a small entrée before my waiter even checked in. Machi Sushi is a very welcome addition to the south of downtown sushi scene and already gaining a lot of popularity. For roughly $35 dollars you get all you can eat sushi, sashimi, nigiri, apps, hibachi, deserts etc. That value is hard to beat just based on variety and quantity. Now when it comes to all you can eat sushi in my opinion its all about trying a lot and taking an average. I tried a ton on the menu and overall a majority of it was good quality and satisfied my cravings for that specific item. Some of my highlights were the gyoza, Tokyo roll, spicy tuna sashimi, hibachi steak and hamachi chili. The hamachi chili is so so good and I ordered probably 5-6. The fish is solid and there isn't much fluff or skimping when it comes to most of the items. Personally the spicy tuna roll had panko or something mixed in and I wasn't a huge fan of that but besides this everything felt as it should. Now you aren't going to get absolutely melt in your mouth salmon belly sashimi but what do you expect its $35 all you can eat? I love this place and they have really tasty boba if you are into that as well. Ambiance inside is excellent with tons of decoration and a lot of charm. They don't take reservations so I recommend putting your name down early if it is a busy night. Service is pretty great, people are really nice and attentive, only thing I could see improved is after ordering a lot I had plates keep stacking up that never got taken away until end; started to get in the way. Saw this place on TikTok and went with some friends to check out the all you can eat sushi! There was about a 30-45 minute wait, which wasn't a problem. We decided to go last minute and didn't have a reservation. We were sat on what was considered their patio (which was enclosed). Everything we ordered was pretty good and came out as we ordered it. They don't tell you this when you sit down, but you have to finish everything you order or they charge you extra. So this is not a place to over order because you can't take it Togo. When considering this is an AYCE situation, I was overall impressed with the food quality. Fried oreos were amazing too. Most of the chicken dishes were very solid too. Fried tofu was eh, and so was the miso soup but overall I left very satisfied with the food quality and selection, I would recommend! 4.5 stars, rounding down just because I think $35 is reasonable when considering the selection and food quality but slightly on the high end for value here on AYCE, but I do think it was pretty fair and especially fair for the lunch prices. The inside is very pretty although we got seated in the back room that was very..not pretty. Service was very good, food came quickly and the wait staff returned frequently to take additional orders. Please note that if you wish to be served by the adorable sushi robot, you will need to request seating close to the prep area. Our server was delightful. The menu is not always clear as to which items are individual pieces. Loved their tempura veggies, chicken wings, and sashimi. We ordered a few rolls. I ordered the Godzilla roll, because Cheetos!?! It wasn't bad, but not my preferred flavor combo. You must save room for the tempura Oreos and Tempura Twinkies. They offer several cocktail options. My party and I really enjoyed our food at Matchi. They have a nice variety of sushi with a nice sashimi selection. We really enjoyed the ambience. It was fun without being too loud. We could carry on a decent conversation. Our server started out evening very nicely. We will call him Al. Al had great suggestions on what sushi is to try and the preparation and delivery of the sushi was very quick. They are not much for presentation though, but that is fine. It really went downhill at the very end of our visit. Al essentially give us the check and told us we need to leave right now and did a hand motion of "shoo, get away from the table." we had at least another 30 minutes of the two hour allowance for our stay. Everyone in our party was very confused as we had really enjoyed chatting with Al and he seemed like a very friendly guy. Best AYCE sushi in Austin! They have an amazing assortment of rolls. I appreciate that the rolls themselves aren't too large and packed with rice so it gives you the opportunity to try more rolls. There wasn't a cap on how many pieces of sashimi you could eat which is unheard of. The Thai milk tea was a little weak in flavor but overall highly recommend checking this place out. Beware of the bar tender he's the older white man who was very rude the moment we sat at the bar. He didn't smile or greet us. We were looking at the menu on my phone and he just threw a menu at us. When we were ready he looked annoyed as we ordered. We ordered a taro milk tea. While making it he coughed in his bare hand, grabbed something and threw it in the drink with the same bare hand. We didn't drink it, and left immediately. We were waiting for a table but after that experience we thought it was best to go to a different place.
