Beet Carpaccio
John J.

The restaurant is in the historic Thayer hotel at West Point. It had a steakhouse feel with a white tablecloth ambiance with a great view of the river (there is an open-air covered patio with even better views, but too humid for us to be out there. We requested a window table and were seated as requested. Service was warm and friendly, but honestly could have been more attentive - especially when drinks were finished or waiting for the bill. Wine by the glass was fine, but very limited on spirits, especially bourbon. Gentleman Jack was all they had and that of course is a whiskey and not a bourbon. Prices were reasonable, but despite the restaurant not being crowded at all, it was a slow wait for our initial order and refills. To start, we tried the Beet Carpaccio and were not disappointed. The dish was fine to share for two and had several types of thin sliced beats with goat cheese and a delicious dressing. I highly recommend it. We shared a ceasar salad after our appetizer and it was easily big enough for three people. The salad was pretty good, but no anchovies as advertised on the menu and way too many croutons. For our entrees, we had the duck and the roast chicken. Hudson Valley produces fantastic duck, but this was a bit disappointing. While and ok flavor, it was a small portion (only 1 small breast), overcooked beyond medium, and slightly tough. The roasted chicken my wife had was excellent. It was a complete half chicken, so too much for my wife and a to go box was supplied. We ordered some sauteed spinach as a table side and it was perfectly cooked. We tried the homemade rustic apple pie ala mode for dessert. My wife loved it, but I thought the crust was way too soft. Overall, very good flavor though and worth a try. Despite some stumbles, I think it deserved to be rounded up to a 5. We would return.

Waffles with banana foster & vanilla ice cream

Thayer brunch was lovely. The food was high quality and kids eat free apparently! The waffle station was paired with bananas foster and vanilla ice cream. The dessert station had lots of options including key lime pie, pecan pie, flourless chocolate cake, cheesecake, Italian cookies, and high quality fruit. Service was quite slow but otherwise fine

Lobster Bisque

MacArthur's Riverview Restaurant is just now opening post Covid closures. If they've had staffing issues, like most dining establishments, you wouldn't know it! They didn't seem to miss a beat this evening! The dining room overlooks the Hudson River, has a stately, grandeur charm and makes for a special evening out. Right off the bat I had a hit and miss. The Maine Lobster Bisque was a big strike out and two bites was all I could tolerate. A bisque is normally creamy and velvety. This bisque had the consistency of a thick chowder but very heavy on a bland flour roux, seemly no cream and void of any lobster flavor. The server was gracious and removed it from the bill, thank you! Unless the Lobster Bisque is improved, it should be removed from the menu. The home run of the evening was the fantastic Candied Bacon: applewood smoked with a lovely, slightly caramelized whiskey-turbinado sugar glaze. The side of house pickles were a wonderful addition, and I'd love to take home a jar! I enjoyed my entree of half of free range chicken, herb roasted. It was tender, moist, flavorful and beautifully plated on a bed of mashed potatoes. The side of "charred asparagus" was thankfully perfectly cooked. A difficult feat because it's easy to overcook asparagus when cooking this technique. The server was attentive and friendly!

Celebrating my birthday during my last year in my 50s made for a very special evening. My beloved…read moremother-in-law treated us to a wonderful steakhouse in Yorktown, and the entire experience was memorable from start to finish. The interior is stunning, with large cathedral ceilings, white tablecloths, and an open yet cozy atmosphere that gives you the classic feel of a traditional steakhouse. One of my favorite touches was the mural of Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino, displayed prominently on the back wall. To start, we shared the applewood-smoked bacon appetizer. It was incredibly thick, smoky, rich, and absolutely delicious -- the kind of indulgence where you can practically feel your arteries clogging, but it's completely worth it. My wife and mother-in-law both ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly. My son and I shared the bone-in steak, and it was so large we couldn't even finish it. The sides were simple and classic: creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach, both done very well. For dessert, they brought out crème brûlée and chocolate mousse cake with a candle on top for my birthday. The staff gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday," which made the evening feel even more special and personal. A wonderful meal, a warm atmosphere, and a memorable celebration with family. I would definitely go back.

I am disabled to get me out of his restaurant for zero reason I've been in there many times their food can be good or suck the ambience, but the owner is an asshole. Be careful. I would still like an explanation why I was thrown out of a restaurant I've never acted inappropriately in especially because I went there for comfort. My husband is dying and I wanted their lobster bisque. I will never ever give this restaurant a penny again.

Great food nice people…read more The meat was very good but VERY VERY expensive. Also their sandwiches are very good but very small. $16.95 got me a pulled pork but it was served on a Martin's Potato Roll, which while tasty is tiny. They're not even using the "Martin's BIG Potato Rolls" just the small regular ones. The sandwiches come with chips for free or fries for an upcharge -- But the chips are homemade and frankly way better than the fries! That said again it was good but for the price the sandwiches should be much bigger. They were dog friendly and very nice which we loved. We will be back soon!

The steak sandwich was yummy, thinly sliced cuts beef, gooey cheese and well seasoned. The sandwich would been better on roll or crusty bread over a hamburger bun though. House-made potato chips were my favorite, well seasoned and cooked just to crispy, other places tend to burn chips but here just right. The filet taco, was very small, mostly a just two bites. It's meat filling was alright, tiny diced but filled the space. The taco sauce though was fire, very savory and well seasoned, almost wish the meat was cooked on the sauce rather than salt and pepper it. Have to come back and buy some of the raw stuff for home, since a very wide selection of cuts is here I can't get at supermarket for sure

Inka Terra is always a great spot for Peruvian food and somewhere I enjoy coming back to. I ordered…read morethe shrimp with garlic, which was good and flavorful, but there was a bit too much oil in the dish. The oil ended up being a little overpowering and took away from the flavor of the shrimp. I also got the Lomo Saltado, which is a classic and something I order almost every time I come here. It never disappoints -- the portion is great and the flavors are always on point. Overall, the food is still very good and the menu has a lot of great options. I'll definitely continue coming back.

A hidden gem for Peruvian comfort food done right…read more We've dined inside, outside, and ordered takeout, and the consistency is what keeps us coming back. The food always tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully prepared. The rotisserie chicken is juicy with crisp skin, paired perfectly with classic sides like rice, beans, and vegetables that don't feel like afterthoughts. The takeout special is an easy win -- generous portions, great value, and ideal for sharing. Add the yuca fries (extra, but worth it) for that crispy-outside, fluffy-inside bite. Service is friendly and efficient, beer is cold, and the space works whether you're sitting down or grabbing food to go. It's an excellent stop after a hike or an easy neighborhood go-to if you're craving something comforting and flavorful. Highly recommend.
