J Murphy's is located in Cold Spring, NY. It's a pub built in what was an old hotel. Cozy place, nice decor, good food, good service, horrible acoustics. It's a pub and you'll find plenty of traditional pub food offerings. All of our good was great. We stopped by for lunch. The roasted brussel sprouts were excellent. Nicely charred, glazed balsamic and underneath was a coating of a whipped ricotta. Great dish! Unfortunately, our entrees were brought out minutes after our appetizer came out. Very annoying and the server just stared at us like - here, where do you want this? The French Dip and Short rib grilled cheese were both good. Tasty, they get a bit heavy, but we're really nice. Good cuts of meat and hardly any fat or grizzle. We opted for salads instead of fries, which that allow you to substitute. The acoustics here are awful as they have a tin roof and nothing really for sound absorption. With only 4 or 5 tables of costumers, we could barely hear ourselves talking. They charge a 4% credit card fee. Service was excellent, aside from the kitchen waitress rushing the food out. Nice pub overall and I recommend. read more

Stopped by this fantastic pub after a strenuous hike in the area and got some great refueling grub and beverages. Plenty of space both inside and out. We really loved the pretzel bites and would definitely get those again, the nachos however were abundant but the chips were a little stale and added chicken was dry. After a long hike we hit J Murphy's for lunch, the food was fantastic. The wings and crispy brussel sprouts were excellent, and the smash burgers hit the spot. The restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the hostess that greeted us was very nice. We sat outside with our dog, which was nice since they are dog friendly. The food was okay overall, although nothing stood out. I appreciated that they have gluten-free options. The main downside was how long everything took, from ordering to getting our food to paying the bill. It was busy, so maybe service moves a bit faster inside or on weekdays, but it definitely took more time than expected. read more

After my YELP Event,I found a few great reviews about this place and the short rib grilled cheese caught my eye and I had to try it,so off we go. When we arrived the outside was packed with patrons, I thought oh boy a long wait however the hostess stated that the people were waiting to be seated outside and said she could seat us right away inside... Great ambiance and this place must have it going on because there were so many in here I realized I found a gold mine. Our server Chrissy was great and later on gave me some history of this restaurant. It was originally a hospital during the civil war and later on a hotel. Very interesting. Back to the food that short rib grilled cheese with sautéed spinach on it was everything I had hoped for hearty and flavorful it's served with shoestring fries. DELICIOUS and my wife and daughter had a Bellini they said it was delicious, I had the mimosa which was also very good. I will definitely be making J Murphy's one of my go to place in Cold springs. read more

The baby back ribs were exactly what I wanted after a day of hiking, and I devoured them expressly. My date's choice of ribeye steak left much to be desired, but we both liked the shoestring fries, and I gave him some of my ribs, and he agreed they were very good. I had a Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich with garlic truffle fries. The wife had the Avocado Toast. The dishes were presented nicely and prepared well. Both meals were good sized portions and not your typical offerings. The truffle fries were very good. They offer ten draught beers and interesting cocktail specials. I had a Raspberry Mule that wasn't real flavorful, but was good I also had the only IPA draught they offer. They have live entertainment on weekends. I ordered the short rib -- the bread was perfectly toasted, crispy but not hard; the beef was tender and delicious; and the soft, warm spinach balanced the texture really well. Came to Cold Spring for the day for a walk and antique shopping. The husband and I decided to stop at J Murphys on Main after reading that they had gf options available. We came early-ish (11:30am) and it was relatively quiet. The waitress was attentive and sat us at a comfy table with lunch/brunch menus and informing us of the soup special for the day. The decor inside is cute and the space made for a perfect day date setting. My husband and I both ordered the local cider on draft (Down East). The cider was crisp and easy to go down, perfect to pair with a meal! I ordered an impossible burger with goat cheese on a gluten free bun. My husband ordered the short ribbed grilled cheese. My husband doesn't really enjoy going out to eat, but I quote, "I very rarely eat rib, it's like a better version of a steak sandwich. This is one of the better things I've eaten recently". I was surprised when he asked if we can come back and add J Murphys into a date night rotation. Needless to say, we will be coming back! read more

The food here was amazing and well presented. The atmosphere was calm, chill and welcoming in an early afternoon on a holiday. The area was so clean. I didn't even think it was a bar. The lighting was a little dim, but typical for I would think. Parking was a beautiful problem. It's street parking. There are only a few spots open late in Cold Spring and this is one of them. We stopped by late on a October Friday night for a drink and to listen to some live music. We tried the apple sangria which was quite good with tiny bits of apple, a cinnamon stick and a caramel and sugar glazed rim. We particularly enjoyed that it was not overspiced as many fall drinks can be. The music was very good but a bit too loud for the space. We chose to sit out on the porch which was perfect. Our waitress did forget to come take our order and then forgot to bring us our check, and we had to hunt her down. Wouldn't recommend going at lunch time; that's when I heard the most "we don't have that" or "we're out of that." Also, I've found service to be better at dinner time. We recently moved to Beacon and passed by Murphy's several times. Finally decided to try it out. This is NOT just a burger joint with a bar. We had two excellent starters - their mini Reuben rolls were amazing, and the shaved Brussel sprouts were great. The burger with bacon and their special sauce was outstanding and my wife's prime rib on grilled cheese was unique and delicious. They were also willing to substitute broccolini as opposed to fries. Their outdoor seating is covered so even though it tuned we were fine. The server was very friendly and knew the menu, and kept in regular contact with us. It's worth the extra 10 minutes from Beacon! read more

First time here and it did not disappoint. Completely refreshed restaurant on Main Street in Cold Spring. We're locals and finally getting back out and this place was a wonderful surprise. The wine and beer list is a really nice variety. The dinner menu gave us a lot of choices and we ordered the short rib grilled cheese and basic burger. They were really good. Large portions, terrific burger with a choice of sweet potato, waffle or shoestring fries. The waitress was attentive and shared some ideas on selections etc. Restaurants need our business these days. In Cold Spring we have quite a few choices within a block or two. Based on recommendations here we decided to head to J Murphys from West Point for lunch. First of all, what a nice drive from West Point over the Bear Mountain bridge through Garrison and then into the cute town of Cold Spring. Food, ambiance and service all surpassed our expectations. We were there for brunch so I was able to order the avocado toast which was really good. Husband and daughter both got the Bacon Chicken Ranch sandwich. They were huge with a great looking breaded chicken breast. Both enjoyed their meal and my son got the short rib grilled cheese.
