My friend always gets the sherlock Holmes and was pleased with it. We shared an artichoke dip with both pita and chips. The pita felt chewy and stale at the same time. The dip tasted microwaved. I first came to this place several years ago on a ski trip, and I came back again this month. It wasn't exactly what I remembered. First of all, what happened to all the writing on the tables? As A local I frequent Macado's often. I've experienced great service from the student wait staff, amazing portion size and a very reasonably priced menu. Being downtown is also a huge plus with a covered outside dining area facing King St. when weather permits. This place has a rock 2000's vibe and has a lot of magazines, posters, and guitars, on the wall and it's really cool! My friends and I went late night and when we came it wasn't very busy so we got seated very quickly. As for the food, My friends and I got cheese sticks to share for the table and those SLAPPED! I got boneless wings and they were okay but they needed more sauce. My friends got the reuben and said it tasted like it was bacon. My other friend got the Barnyard sandwich and said it was good and she would get it again. As for dessert, we got cheesecake and it was not good . Came in here at noon on a Sunday with my wife and kids aged 2 and 5, didn't look too busy. We were seated quickly and ordered our food. That was about the only positive. We waited about 40 min we asked our waitress what was the hold up and were told "the kitchen was really backed up". After another twenty minutes we asked again what was going on, we hadn't even received our appetizer, meanwhile several other parties who were seated after us had received their food . My wife then walked over to some staff and retuened with our appetizer, but at that point we were done. In total we spent over an hour never received our entrees and walked out. This restaurant was recommended by a local zip line tour guide just for their dessert, she openly said that the food wasn't good (hinting freezer food) and that the desert was the only thing worth getting there, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Cinnamon Sensation dessert and the Madison mud pie. The brownie in the Madison mid pie was so hard and stale the metal spoon I was given couldn't break it. First of all, let me just say that I NEVER leave bad reviews... This is LITERALLY my first one but oh boy... does this place deserve it. Let me preface this by saying that we came here after a 17 mile bike ride thinking it would be a semi-quick sit down place and my brother/sister-in-law highly recommended it from the last time they visited Boone. Oh how they were wrong. Mind you, we have all served throughout college so we were completely understanding at first as our server Caroline was understaffed and apologetic for the most part so we genuinely felt for her. However, our two biggest issues was the BURNT FOOD and the managerial staff. 1. The food. So firstly what was supposed to be a semi-quick dinner quickly turned into 2 hours with a sleepy 4 year old. We watched table after table get their food before us but we figured it was because we were a 7 top. 5/6 adults got burgers, simple as that right?! Thats when we got the food. 2 of the burgers was completely wrong (aka enough mayonnaise to serve potato salad at a family reunion or even make a bowl of ranch for a Super Bowl party) and 3 buns out of 6 were not just burned but CHARRED... like black. Like "who broke the good toaster" burnt. So what did they do to compensate? They brought buns straight out of the bag in the walk in fridge. 3 of us didn't eat or at least couldn't eat anything more than the side of chips. It was a clear sarcastic move on the kitchen staff to give a cold bun out of spite but whatever they remade the two wrong burgers (they still got it wrong but at this point wtfever). They never remade my father in laws or tried to amend his burnt bun or the cold/plain/unbuttered bun so that's THAT. 2. Onto Mr. Manager... let me say I know this boy is 20. We asked (nicely) to speak with the manager after the cold buns situation and he literally held up menus to avoid talking to us at first. When he did come over to listen to us calmly explain what was going on, all he could say was "let me talk to my deli" it sounded like he was saying "daddy"... but anyways, he was saying deli but I wanted to say "you mean you're line cooks?!?!" He never came back to apologize for the horrendous experience, he just passed it off to Caroline to awkwardly handle like it was her job, no buddy it's your job to do everything in your power to apologize and remedy/deescalate the situation and he did comp 3 of the burgers but we still waited 45 minutes just for the burgers to be corrected and they weren't even right also we never saw him again after the one time. Also apparently the hostess was throwing up and that's why the whole restaurant was in shambles so if you're the hostess and you're reading this.... They need you. The buns will be burned and also the whole place cannot run without you. I am flabbergasted. We still spent $100 on crap. At least 2 of us ate good. I never experienced anything like the lack of not giving a f*** to try and fix it. Do better. read more

I'm from out of town, but every time I'm in Boone, I always loved this restaurant. It was such a unique place. The decor and ambiance made it such a fun place to be, especially as a kid. Unfortunately, everything that made Macado's great is gone. It's now just another run of the mill sports bar with huge TVs plastered all over the walls. Everything that made it a fun, unique restaurant has been replaced with mediocrity. The only good thing I can say is that the menu is the same and the food, while not as good, is still decent. As far as service goes, our waitress was barely there. We waited quite a while for our food, and then it took forever to get our check. She would bring us something, then disappeare into the back somewhere and show back up 15 minutes later. On top of the disappointing changes to the restaurant, and the poor service, the health score is in the mid to high 80's, which is pretty terrible. Almost didn't want to eat here based on the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised at the taste and size of my meal. They do have odd names for all their sandwiches so you have to search through the descriptions to find what you want. I ordered the Titanic, which is their French Dip. I got potato salad as my side and it was delicious! The French Dip comes with prime rib, cheese, sautéed mushrooms, tomato and lettuce. I said no lettuce or tomato because I thought that was an odd combination for prime rib. My husband got one of their cheeseburgers with a side of fries and it was huge! He wasn't able to finish it. Anyways, the original reason we came here was for their cinnamon rolls. We were walking down the sidewalk and saw them in the window. There were gigantic and smelled so good. We looked at their menu and decided to go ahead and eat dinner while we waited. The cinnamon buns are made to order. They were so warm, fresh and tasty! We will definitely come here again next time we're in Boone. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the cleanliness of the bathroom. I grew up in a town with a Macado's and love the Diamond Jim, which has always been the best sandwich anywhere in my opinion. I've since moved to a city without a Macado's but I still crave that rare roast beef and melted Swiss on a French bun with lettuce and tomato. (I always order extra cheese, no special sauce, and mayo). So when my wife and I discovered a Macado's in Boone, we were excited. I ordered my usual Diamond Jim. What I got was thoroughly cooked through "shoe leathery roast beef", half the cheese, and no mayo or sauce. And there was no lettuce or tomato either. I checked the menu for this location and they don't advertise the roast beef as being " rare" on the menu (hint - that's what makes it great) but they also don't advertise it as being leathery either. It was almost as if they went and bought Arby's, aged the roast beef for 6 weeks, and served it to me on the bun. Also, the menu does list lettuce and tomato as ingredients and, again, mine came with neither. The other thing is that we called the order in at 6pm and were told it would take 20-30 minutes. It was closer to 40. And (hey weren't busy either. No one was there. So why it took so long to make a lousy sandwich, which left off key ingredients is beyond me. Waitress arrive, breathless and said she would be back. Finally got our order brought drink and was gone. After a while she came by to apologize for the delay. That happened several times. Finally, I told my party that I was going to restroom and when I return if food not there we would leave. Went to the not-so-clean bathroom, couldn't dry my hands as the automatic dispenser was broken. Back to table, no food. Started to leave but the waitress had told my party that we were next. I am usually a huge fan of Macados. I went this weekend and they were very busy which is typical. I went with my 4 friends and our waiter was Pete. He was not attentive at all and never refilled our drinks or checked on us. When he brought out our food it was wrong and looked awful. We asked the manager for help and she was not very nice. This is a place my friends and I frequented a lot during college, and we decided to visit again while in the area. They have a mammoth sized menu of sandwiches, as well as burgers, wings, and a few entrees. They also have cheap beer and a lively atmosphere. The food has never been great, but also never really been bad. Simply average all around, and inexpensive. The same held true this time when we visited, where we were really just looking for a place for a decent bite to eat and to drink some beers. Our waitress was great, the pours kept coming, and overall we were satisfied on our return trip to our college town. I have never written a review on any restaurant before, but my experience at Macado's needs to be shared. I went to the popular restaurant with my family a couple weeks ago. Once we were seated, our waitress took our drink orders and brought them out pretty quickly which I appreciated, but from then on the experience was awful. We waited over an hour and a half for our food to be brought out. Once it finally arrived, it was cold and burnt, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. We let our waitress know, who not to mention, we saw maybe twice the whole time we were there. She brought a new basket of fries out, but didn't do anything else to compensate or at the very least apologize. I am a server and her lack of willingness to help was unacceptable. Also, to top it off, my Dad's friend spoke to the manager about our experience and he literally did nothing. He didn't even come to our table and personally apologize for the poor experience. Obviously, Macado's cares more about making money than their guests. I completely understand the stress of the restaurant world, but what occured at Macado's and the lack of care from it's employees and management is not okay and should never happen. I will never go back to Macado's, and I suggest others go to any of the other awesome restaurants on King's street. read more
