Went to grab a quick lunch in downtown Jefferson at Black Jack's! I got the Black Jack Burger (beef patty, bun, pepper jack cheese, grilled pineapple, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo) and Iced Tea. I have no notes, this was a classic burger: I loved the hint of spice from pepperjack, the sweet contrast from the pineapple, and the patty was perfectly cooked. The pub chips were well-seasoned and crispy. The iced tea had just the right amount of sugar, and was very refreshing. The ambiance is fine: a bit dim inside, but there's also outside seating. Service was friendly & fast. Parking is free in downtown Jefferson. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Honestly, I really wanted to like this place, (despite the reviews) but the food just didn't do it for me. Everything looked decent, but the flavors were super bland--like they forgot the salt and spices altogether. Nothing was terrible, just really underwhelming. The vibe of the place is super casual and low key. The bartender who waited on us was attentive but wasn't very friendly. But if you're going mainly for the food, it might leave you a little disappointed. Not the worst meal ever, but definitely not memorable. read more

ok, for a bar to sit at and drink. Failure as a restaurant in every aspect. Sorry to say, but should not be in the food business. Improve your product or price it accordingly. Would not try ever again for dining. Seating, venue, service, fair at best. Although I might even lower the ranking of the seating. Food forget it. Shame because it is located on a quant street corner with a decent looking bar. read more

This may be the best burger in North Carolina. A thick, freshly made hamburger patty, cooked to order. Served with BBQ sauce, Pepper Jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. This is a flavorful burger with lots of add ons available. They offer a variety of burgers or build your own. Comes with chips, but you can choose hand-cut fries, pub chips, onion rings, etc. Very casual atmosphere. Good selection of draft and bottle beer. One of our favorite restaurants in this mountain town. read more

Black Jack's Pub & Grill - The Black Jack's Burger - Pubs Near Me - West Jefferson, North Carolina

Ate at Black Jack's tonight with my wife. Read Virginia's story on the table -- genuinely moved, and the kind of thing that makes a place feel different. Our server was so nice and took great care of us, including making it right when our nachos didn't hit. One piece of honest feedback a regular would want you to hear: the nachos need a second look. Most people won't tell you -- they'll just not come back. Wanted to, because the story on the table asks for that kind of honesty. Looking forward to coming back. read more

We come to this area once a year. I've brought friends and family each with various tastes. We have always thought it to be decent until this time. We sat outside which was nice. The service was slow to start, but picked up after we made mention that we were ready to order. My husband got the 6 wings to start. The wings were sooooo small it looked like baby bird wings. Seriously! 4 wings would equal 1 regular wing. I ordered the chicken Gyro. Lacking is all I can say. I should have taken a picture so you'd believe me. Cold chewy chicken cut into tiny pieces, diced onion, diced tomatoes, and olives. There was more pita than there was filling. The fry up charge is 4.99. ‍ I got the fry's and it was the best part of my meal. Of course they took the sandwich off my bill and the server was kind about it. I was not mad at her. HOLD PLEASE.....then the owner/manager comes out to question me! I explained the the sandwich was not worth $15 buy the fry's were good however, the ranch was like water. I used to work at a place where the owner questioned the customers about their meal and it was always embarrassing. The worst thing you could ever do is try to convince me that what you served me was good when I didn't like it. I won't be back..... read more

Black Jack's Pub & Grill - The baby and I mean BABY wing! - Pubs Near Me - West Jefferson, North Carolina

I absolutely loved this place. My boyfriend and I had take out the first time. He ordered bbq wings and I mild with fries. It was so so good. The wings were so flavorful and tasted amazing. We got take out on a Saturday night and noticed no one was there. We thought we made a mistake by ordering but the food was soo good. The fries were crispy and tasted amazing. The service was so wonderful. The lady with the bun was so so nice and sweet. The next time we came in had wings again and my boyfriend had the black jack burger. He loved the burger and ate it all!! I absolutely loved my wings ofc. We also ordered the flatbread as an appetizer and it was soo yummy. The waitress was also very sweet. I absolutely loved this place. It was so comfortable. It needs more customers! read more

Ewww the food was just not good. Fry Pickles were the oddest color; pub chips had CHEEZE WHIZ on them; mozzarella sticks underdone like string cheese. Burger was ok but what's with the included lays chips but then add $5 for fries upgrade?!? The upcharges are super sneaky - toppings $2-3 including onions - free most other places. Soft drinks $4 each. Dirty old atmosphere. Greasy spoon. Avoid! ....Service was good. Our server very friendly! read more

The food was very overpriced, and super underwhelming. Would highly recommend finding somewhere else to eat. The service was fine and our waitress was polite, but the food was sub-mid. Ambiance was nice however the tables were sticky and everything tasted like microwaved leftovers. read more

Black Jack's Pub & Grill - Burger with Fries - Pubs Near Me - West Jefferson, North Carolina

We walked in and were told to sit wherever we'd like to. Someone greeted us right away and came to take our drink order. We decided on a French fry basket for an appetizer since fries/pub chips don't come with entrees. A bag of potato chips is included in lieu of fries. My husband & I both ordered burgers. We weren't asked how we wanted them cooked and we also weren't asked which kind of cheese we wanted, so we both forgot to mention it and apparently by default cheese is not included on the burgers. We also ordered wings at the same time. My burger was pretty good, although a bit overcooked, and I was hoping for fresh guacamole but it tasted a lot like the kind you buy at the grocery store. The wings ended up coming out about 20 minutes after our burgers, but she kindly took 30% off the bill because of that. I think their kitchen must be pretty small because they weren't packed but everything was kinda slow to come out. This place is a bit expensive for what you receive, in my opinion. However, the ranch is something to write home about!! It's my favorite kind, when you can tell it's house made and a tad bit loose/watery. read more

Awesome outside seating and dogs are welcome outside. Right on the main drag Jefferson Ave. Voted Best Burgers according to a sign, the smell made us stop and the Cali burger did not disappoint. Kayla was our server and she did a fantastic job, she was sweet and hustling to take care of the Labor Day Monday crowd. We loved the outside vibe of a busy downtown. read more

Best Burger in West Jefferson! We both had a Black Jack burger for lunch - really liked the pineapple slice on top, a new and tasty twist!! The beef was fantastic, so much so we asked were they sourced the meat - all local and prepared there - great flavor and cooked on a real open fire. Beer selection was OK, service was fast and friendly. read more

I've been here several times and usually sit outside which is nice. Tonight was different as it was so cold. I sat at the bar. Five people beside me using the F word in every sentence and vaping INSIDE. The music was offensive. Not typical of a mountain town. The food was meh. There was a dog running around - not a service or therapy dog - just running around. I get small towns. I grew up in WJ but there has to be some norms and acceptance of rules and regulations. read more

my waitress was very sweet however they tax you like crazy here making it so incredibly expensive. do not order the fried pickles, literally it was so sour and over fried, disgusting. they charge you an additional $4 for french fries so you don't have a bag of chips with maybe 10 small chips (i wish i was joking.) a single shot was $10.. INSANE. food was mid and avoid coming here all together to save your money on what you could be spending for decent meals at places as low as mcdonald's. food was horrible. read more

Food was terrible and expensive. Don't order the fried pickles. Burgers were overcooked. Service was good.

Walked in here after a day of shopping and was pleasantly surprised with all the cool decorations. They even had a jukebox that you could pick songs from your phone on. We were told to sit wherever and the waitress came over rather quickly and took our order. I didn't know if I wanted a burger or their "famous" wings, so we got both. The burger only came with a side bag of chips (should be a crime) so we had to get an appetizer order of fries. The fries were relatively bland and just overall had a weird texture too them. Burger came out and was extremely overdone and dry. Bacon on the burger was decent and I was happy they used fresh Jalapeños and not pickled ones. I had finished my burger and the waitress came out and said the wings would be another 10 minutes. It ended up being about 20 and I just asked for a box as I was no longer hungry. I ended up trying one before we left and it was halfway decent but nothing to write home about. Average food at best, service and environment was decent. I'd probably try another place if I come back to this area read more

There are many fine establishments in West Jefferson. This is not one of them. Ok to have a drink, but the food is laughable and giving it a way for free would still be overpriced. I hate to have to say this, but they need a wakeup call or sell the location to someone who cares. read more

We went in during the week and one of the bartenders put some very offensive loud music on with a lot of bass and we in another couple refused to eat there. Very obnoxious and if they don't change their attitude they will be losing business read more

The food is always great. The problem comes in at the pricing. I had a Turkey melt which was $14.99 which is overpriced for what it is however it would have been ok if it had come with fries but it didn't. It was a an additional $4.99 for FRIES! It was $20.00 for a damn turkey melt sandwich! $20.00! Ridiculous! My wife had a Texas hold'em which is shaved ham, grilled onions,BBQ sauce and American Cheese for $14.95 Again with chips as a side or a $4.99 up charge for fries. The beer prices were reasonable at $6.00 a beer. In the future, I'll probably stop in for a beer but eat elsewhere. $60.00 for a small town pub lunch is outrageous. I ate in lunch in DC a couple of weeks ago in a high brow restaurant for less money. read more

We throughly enjoyed our evening meal at Black Jacks. Annette was our server and she was pleasant to talk to and provided excellent service. I ordered a Hamburger Salad, which didn't appear on the menu, but was totally awesome. The wife had a chicken tender sandwich which she enjoyed. I highly recommend their burgers. A great place to eat or drink! read more

Definitely a solid burger spot located in the heart of West Jefferson. We enjoyed everything we ordered... my only complaint is the limited choice of included sides. You get a $0.30 bag of lays potato chips or you can get fries for an additional $3.49. I get that fries are more expensive but I would factor that into my menu prices and offer housemate chips along with fries as i think that provides a better experience. The pricing (without fries) is also a little high... our family of six spent $96 for lunch without any appetizers and mostly water. That's including the 18% tip and It's a tourist area so I'm used to paying a premium but that's why I landed on a 3 versus a 4. I would still definitely go back! read more

Firstly, love the vibe here! It's laidback, filled with locals and you just can kick back and have a delicious meal. My hubby and I were staying in an Airbnb right above the restaurant and we popped down for a late dinner. We seated ourselves when we got there and started looking at the menu. Our server came right by and was very friendly. We ordered a few appetizers to start. The fried green tomatoes are ah-mazing! You can tell they are homemade and fried to perfection. I had to fight off the hubby to eat them. I ordered the meatball sub and it was so darn good. The meatballs were tasty and not dry. The tomato sauce was good and the bread was held it all together. It was delish! We will definitely be back the next time we visit! read more

The service was ok. Everyone seemed fairly nice. The food was ok. Chips and fries were covered in salt. Tasted like someone shaved a salt block over both. So if you like salt you're in the right place. The burgers were pretty good tho! But the prices are a little unreasonable. $63 for 2 people seems a lot. Yes I know this is 2024 but still. $5 for fries? The music was a little loud. Guests and staff vaping inside. It's a eh kind of place read more

Greeted right away. We ordered the Cali burger, Reuben (sp?) with fries and onion petals. We're excited to try the hand cut fries, but the order was extremely "lean" (didn't get much!). For an extra $3.99 the customer should get more than 20-30 very thin hand cut fries! Overall, an ok place. Food was decent. Reuben especially good. The corned beef was lean and thin just like a NY deli! read more

The service was great and the food is delicious. The decor is great and I love the high table.

We started with the onion pedals and it all went down hill from there. "Best Burgers in Town" sign out front. That's a laugh. Ordered a bacon cheese burger medium rare. The wafer thin patty came out burned and over cooked. The fries were cold. The wife got a Ruben that looked good if you could get past the 12 inch hair she pulled out of it. The final comment not one refill. The wife got up and refilled her drink. Avoid! Stay away! This is a hole that doesn't need to be rewarded with your hard earned money. read more

Stayed in an AirBnB next door to Black Jacks and while the AirBnB was nice, we truly felt like our trip was made by the people, food and fun that Black Jacks gave us (and our toddler!) Everything we ate was so delicious, the people really made it extra special though. We never felt bad for our toddler helping to entertain fellow guests or get some giggles in with the staff. It was also nice to walk downstairs and grab a beverage when the toddler was snoozing right upstairs (our baby monitor stays in perfect range!) Cannot recommend this place enough, if not for the tasty food, but for the amazing people who work here. Cannot wait to come back on our next WJ trip. read more

Had lunch here with 3 friends. Asked if I could swap the chips for fries with my sandwich. Server did not say what the upcharge would be. It was $5! One of my friends did the same thing but she wasn't charged the upcharge price. She paid and left. When I questioned it, the server said she would get the manager. The manager came to the table and demanded that one of us pay the $5 for my friend. I said her tab was wrong and it wasn't her fault. The manager raised her voice and said none of us could leave until someone paid that $5. She was livid. Over $5! It was the server's mistake. Apparently the server had added the $5 upcharge to someone else's tab by mistake. The manager wasn't having it! She again said we had to pay it and she wasn't going to just "eat" it. She was yelling by this point. It was crazy. So we paid it just to shut her up. She bullied us into paying when it was the restaurant's error. Our server was great and the food was really good, but there no way we'd ever go back to this place. read more

One of the better places for a lunch in West Jefferson. On the main drag. Advertises the best burger in town. A bar with a good kitchen. I ordered the build your own burger and it was great. A good hunk of pure beef, no fillers, on a soft bun. Very juicy and I in a white fleece. That said, I was careful to hold the burger over the plate and was successful to escape without a stain. Wife had an order of their meatballs which was even better than their burger. I was allotted a "bite" to try a small piece of one. The meatballs are hand formed, baked and serve covered with a homemade marinara, which was very tasty and a snowfall of parmigiana cheese. An excellent big snack or small meal. Their bar is truly a sports bar. Four pillars holding up the roof are: a stack of footballs, a stack of soccer balls, a stack of basketballs and a huge baseball bat. Colorful and very appropriately cute. Lots of good draft beers. I only had time for one. This is the place to go. read more
