Yesterday for lunch I had a delicious chicken salad sandwich with corn nuggets on the side. The chicken salad was classic, boiled eggs, sweet pickles etc and was perfect in taste, texture and exact right amount of Mayo. The corn nuggets may have been the best ones I've ever had, they were so good. It was a call in order and they were busy but the lady who helped me could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Ordered the catfish, it wasn't catfish, had no taste, I suspect it was Swai. Ordered cabbage, tasted more like fish than the fish I was served. Ordered fried squash, wasn't brought to my table until I asked the waitress. Made the mistake of ordering corn bread, very VERY dry. The only high light was the tea, it was very good. read more

We used to love The Pines, but the last year it seems every time we call in an order SOMETHING is wrong! This time we got Hamburger steak plates with cheese and onions, mashed potatoes, green beans, and corn bread ($26+). The hamburger steak was very dry and the cheese all pulled off with the paper they put on top. NOW the worst part... I'm embarrassed for them with the corn bread they sent... it was a brick! And apparently it was freshly made as per the employee who took our order. UNACCEPTABLE! It's something EVERYTIME SINGLE TIME we order!!! You'd think we'd learn! read more

The people who live here in Sparta are so loyal to this place, it blows my mind. I had a call in order and went inside to pick it up, Was waiting at the register and suddenly an older woman started yelling at me asking what did I want, I told her why, Then she yells, it's not ready yet. I called 30 minutes earlier. Our food was cold (who knew) the fish was horrible, My husband's hamburger didn't have cheese on it like he asked when he called, Too late when you get all the way home. Teach your employees some manners.!! Won't be back. Prices are high for crappy food. read more

After 4 years, I gave this place another shot on a Saturday night. This time I stayed away from anything fried, although I kept eyeing other customer's plates to evaluate the style of breading. Is it thick or not? Still not sure but I am willing to try fried flounder again if I don't have to scrape the breading off. All the vegetables were really good. The baked potatoes were coated with salt - impressive! Had greens, beans, side salad. All good! Service was fairly ok. It would be nice if they cleared the table of dirty dishes, but oh well, don't expect fine dining atmosphere here. Came for the home style food and I was happy with that. read more

This is a great place to eat Southern country cooking. The food is delicious and the servers are nice and friendly. They offer fried fish, barbecue, sandwiches and lots of good vegetables as sides such as fried okra and greens to name a few. The indoor serves its purpose. Which is to have a place to eat. If you want to be picky because it doesn't look like a 5-star restaurant inside, then you missed out on good food. I personally love Southern foods and I don't mind that it looks really simple inside. I dine here with my husband often. read more

Granddaughter and I decided to eat here as an alternative to where we wanted to eat. Not too crowded but I did notice no real speed of service. We were seated quickly but waitresses had to argue whose table we were seated. Sat for 10 minutes before someone asked for our drink order. Had to wait another 10 minutes for waitress to return after she brought the drinks. She finally took our order, I ordered small shrimp plate with fries and cole slaw and granddaughter ordered chicken fingers with fries, and headed for kitchen. Everything here seems to be hurry up nd wait because it was almost 30 minutes before we got our food. My shrimp were the typical tiny popcorn shrimp drowned in batter and fried to super crispiness. Flavor wasn't bad but not good either. Fries were great and slaw was passable. Granddaughter said her chicken was good. Rating isn't for the food, it filled us up and we couldn't finish it all, but for the service which needs improvement. read more

Stopped here while driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's not much in this very rural area, so we were glad to find it. I'd recommend looking at the google reviews, which are more numerous than Yelp. Our experience here was excellent. My partner ordered a chicken sandwich, which was fine. I ordered the half barbecue chicken (such a bargain) and was thrilled. It's tasty, traditional small-town Southern food. I got fried okra, baked apples, and hush puppies on the side. Everything was plentiful and delicious. The servers were kind and attentive. To be clear, this is a small-town restaurant. The walls are covered in fabric flower wreaths. Most of the customers know the staff and each other. It's a wonderful place to eat and a taste of everyday life in the area. read more

The burger was quite tasty but the service will keep me from ever returning. After finally getting seated it took more than 10 minutes for a waitress to stop and take my order. Then they never stopped again to refill my beverage so I went most of my meal with an empty glass. There's way better options in the area to eat. read more

4 of us went here to eat, and it was terrible. 3 of us feel sick from the food. There were food particles dried and stuck on the inside of my tea glass. The booth we were sitting in was full of mold that was making the vinyl flake off, tape covering holes in the seat, and made the mold smell come out every time you moved in the seat. And the food quality was pretty much the same as a middle school lunchroom. I haven't been to a sketchy restaurant this bad in years. read more

Needed a quick lunch and pines didn't look busy so my wife and I stopped... NEVER AGAIN! Ordered a Philly cheese steak , it was a pretty sad sandwich. First off it was cold, second I'm not sure what the "meat" was but it looked like brown paper (2 tiny slices) did not look like nor taste like steak then those two tiny slices of "meat" are drowned by two slices of yellow cheese and a couple canned mushrooms thrown in there. All in all it was disgusting then to top it off 3 hours later I was hugging the toilet and now day two I sit here on my toilet writing this since the diarrhea hasn't stopped!!!!!!!!!!! read more

My wife and I ate her by accident just driving around looking for a place. My bbq ribs, firies, and salad were excellent, my wife's turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes just ok. My husband and I ate Thanksgiving Dinner at the Pines this year. What a disaster! It was a buffet and everything was cold. Instead of serving a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, Turkey and ham, they had included beef, all kinds of beef, even pork barbeque. Couldn't find any turkey gravy. Had candied sweet potatoes which we dearly love. They were terrible!. Black in color and loaded with cinnamon. Couldn't eat it. Never been so disappointed with a Thanksgiving Dinner in my life! The real thing that was bad is it was packed and very expensive so they really profited for serving that bad food. read more
