Not worth the money for the food or the service. Went for their Mother's Day brunch they were sold out of the beef entrée. You could not change any dish such as taking tomatoes off a salad. Food was overcooked and appeared to have been sitting under a warming light and then sauce added and served. Chicken was dried out, and salmon was overcooked. Server was not friendly and acted like it was a burden to serve us. There were four of us and they added a 20% gratuity. We were not told about this by our friendly waitress, but happened to see it on the bill so did not want to leave her more money. It is a beautiful venue. read more

The food has only gotten better after all these years. We came for lunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised that they were serving brunch. So that was the choice of 3 of the 4 of us. Our eggs were great. The cheese biscuit with a choice of toppings was delicious. The bacon could have been crisper. My husband, the odd man out got the French dip sub and enjoyed that too! Best of all, we got the coffee creme brulee and it was the BEST CB I have had in awhile. It's best to have a reservation to eat at Harvest Grill but we happened to be in the area and took our chances on a Saturday evening. We were seated in the main entryway, which was fine because there was not a ton of traffic and even if there were our backs were to it and there was a large TV in front of is showing coverage of the Olympics, which was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed a bottle of the Bourbon Barrel Chardonnay with our meal. Our appetizer was a Melon Board that was a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth. An assortment of melons, micro greens, prosciutto and Bleu cheese. Amazing! We both got the fish of the day which was expertly prepared. Finished off sharing a slice of light and fluffy poundcake topped with lemon curd and lavender honey. Note: The membership at Shelton is for their winery, and I must say I am quite impressed. I have visited many wineries in the area and compared them to the ones we usually visit in Central Coast California, and Shelton stands out in my opinion. However, I'd like to focus on the restaurant experience, rather than the winery. At Shelton, if you buy a bottle of wine from the winery and have it opened there, you'll avoid the $15 corkage fee that you'd have to pay if you bought the same wine at the Harvest Grill. This is a great money-saving tip I got from Cam at Shelton, who is one of my favorite pourers in the world. For an anniversary lunch, we brought some friends and were seated on the covered patio area, which was comfortable despite the hot day. We had our bottle opened and poured it into the glasses provided by our server, Donna, saving us $15. Trust me, I can pour wine. My wife and our friend ordered Shrimp and Grits, the other friend ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder and a salad, and I ordered a cup of Clam Chowder and the Ahi Tuna sandwich with a side of pasta salad. My soup came first and it was nice and meaty with a good flavor, but there were too many clams in it. Then, all the other food arrived. The tuna on my sandwich was excellently grilled and not dry. The pasta salad was okay, but my wife got a side of brussel sprouts that I would have preferred. When my wife was almost done with her dish, she mentioned that it was too salty. I tasted it and it felt like I had a pound of salt in my mouth. I informed our server, who seemed to be absent for periods, possibly serving other guests. I asked her to relay the feedback about the salty dish to the chef. She said she would, but when she returned with the check, she didn't mention anything else, which is why I'm giving this review a lower rating. read more

Beautiful restaurant at a great winery. We really love this winery and are members. The grounds are lush and you just want to spend a whole day there drinking wine. I have a separate wonderful review for Shelton. But I cannot say the same for their restaurant on site. The restaurant was very very nice , windows all around to view their beautiful grounds and vineyards. But the food, very disappointing. It was the worst shrimp and grits I ever had and I've had a lot. It was basically a plate of salt. Now I'm salt sensitive so my husband tried it, and he was amazed at how salty it was. We did let the waitress know. It was almost inedible. The fig and prosciutto Pizza was okay, and my husband's tuna Burger was really good. I think I would just stick to sandwiches next time. Unfortunately the winery does not let you bring outside food so if you want to eat you have to order from this restaurant which is too bad. Would have been a nice touch if the waitress maybe at least offered a free slice of dessert of something especially knowing it was our friends anniversary and that we were so not happy with our dish. Yum, Yum, Yum! We arrived at 5:05 with a reservation at 5:15. They have a small waiting area with a bar when you first enter. It took a few minutes for someone to acknowledge us, but once they did we were seated quickly. Our waitress was super friendly and answered any questions that we had. Everything we ordered arrived timely and hot! We started off with the pimento cheese fondue- hot pimento cheese with pork rinds and sausage cheddar crackers for dipping (imagine a flattened, crunchy sausage ball). I opted for the Sixty South Salmon and I cleaned my plate- the potatoes were crisped to perfection and the salmon was so tender. The Duck dish was flavorful and paired well with the cherry merlot reduction- our favorite bite was the yummy smoked walnuts. We skipped dessert but we will definitely try it out next time. The Harvest Grill is the restaurant on Shelton Vineyards. They do take reservations although it doesn't seem too busy there so you might be ok without reservations. My table was on the enclosed patio so there were nice views through the glass windows. I was the only one at the restaurant for about an hour. I ordered the chicken salad on croissant and that came out pretty quickly. The sandwich and fries were good. When others started arriving I realized there was just one waitress for the whole restaurant and she was the bar tender too. So it took time to order dessert and a very long time to get the check. There were plenty of people working so I am not sure why she was doing everything. The chocolate peanut butter pie was good size and rich that I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Although I was very happy with the food (5 Stars) the service was disappointing. I'm not sure I'd return again. read more

My wife and I had reservations over the weekend and were seated very close to the reservation time. The biscuits were great and the wine was good but that is where it ended. There were taking us to the worst table in the covered patio and we inquired about a better table we passed and were told the table location was reserved for another patron. We proceeded to the table and ordered 2 burgers one medium and one rare. The medium on was well well done and dry. The rare one had a tiny bit of pink. The server refilled water before the meal came but we never saw her again until we requested the check. The burgers took 45 minutes before we received them. Not a good experience. We started coming to Harvest Grill several years ago for their Easter and Mother's Day brunch/lunch. We really enjoyed the food, the service, and the wonderful dessert buffet. But yesterday was a disappointment. Our server, Ashley was very good but the other employees hired to bring the food to the table were sorely lacking in training. When the young girl brought our dessert to the table she didn't first clear the main course dishes. She placed all the desserts down and walked away, with the remains of our lunch just sitting there on a very crowded table surface. She then returned with 5 spoons and plopped them down together rather than walking around to each person's place setting. When our server showed up I think she was appalled and apologized that the main course dishes had not been picked up first. In addition, some of the food choices on the menu were a bit puzzling and makes me think the chef did not taste his/her creations while making them. One was carrots marinated in red wine. They were brown, and a bit unappetizing looking but I could overlook that if they had a great taste. They did not. The description of the dish said they also had honey but none of us detected any sweetness and the carrots in wine just had a weird flavor...to accompany the weird look. For dessert we had our choice of three items. Two (carrot cake and cherry sonker) tasted okay but nothing special like Harvest Grill has previously offered up in brunch desserts. The third option was awful--a chocolate shortbread cake with strawberries. Now, shortbread normally isn't a terribly sweet cake but it does contain sugar. This chocolate shortbread cake was bitter and had no sugar. It was like the chef forgot to add sugar and then never tasted his creation once it was baked. I am giving the review 3 stars only because we have had good food and service in the past but yesterday was a 1 or 2 star. I hope they figure out what went wrong. read more

FOOD: 5 SERVICE: 1 I lived in this area for decades before moving out of town and I regretted never coming to this place or the vineyards. But today I was there to visit a family member that is sick and I thought we'd stop by and try it out. We arrived at the restaurant and stepped in to the bar area. Waiting, for what I consider longer than we should have, for someone walking by to acknowledge we were there. When we said we would like a table we were asked if we had a reservation and I told them we did not. The person at the bar left and got someone to come up front to talk to us. She ALSO asked if we had a reservation which we said we did not. She then pulled up one of the waitresses and asked her what sections she was working and the two seemed to have a mini-debate over whether they could sit us at their table or not. Things started off well. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful with the specials and took our order quickly and left. There were maybe 5 tables of people in the whole place inside and outside so it was, in no way, busy. While it took considerably longer than I would have expected for a meal to come out around 4pm in the early afternoon, the food was awesome. It was cooked well, very fresh and great taste. I had the sautéed shrimp with risotto and spinach. It was very good. But then we waited... and waited... and waited for the check. The waitress was not around and we kept looking for her. When we finally saw her, she was carrying a desert to a table outside. So we said "ok she will drop by in a minute". But then she seemed to be in a long conversation with the folks at the table so I stood up and went to the bar to pay. If that wasn't enough, the person managing the team didn't seem surprised that I was having to come there for paying my bill. There was no apology or "so sorry you had to take care of this yourself". As I was paying, the waitress came in and said "are you ready for your check". And I said "we took care of it". Really disappointed with the service. The food was top notch and amazing. Maybe it was just a bad day. Maybe the server as having a bad day. Maybe the whole team was dealing with something. But I would have loved to top off the amazing food with an amazing customer service experience. read more

After discovering another NC restaurant on Yelp's list of top 100 restaurants to visit in 2022, it didn't take long for my friends and I to take a day trip to visit!! With Machete setting the caliber for said list very high, I'm not quite sure Harvest Grill hits the same mark. However, we still had a great meal and the service was exceptional. As Harvest Grill is on the campus of Shelton Vineyard, we naturally began with ordering a couple flights of wine. My friend opted for white wines and I ordered red wines. I got the Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The merlot and cabernet sauvignon both complimented my food particularly well because they had slight peppery notes to them.  To begin we ordered the pizza and salad combination. At $16 it's a ridiculous deal! We got the beet salad and the flatbread special which had pesto, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and mozzarella. These two items were by far my favorite dishes of the whole meal! The beet salad had some interesting unusual beets in it that were so yummy, and it was perfectly dressed with the right amount of texture! After our waitress hyped up their homemade pimento cheese, we decided to order a "cheese board" of that as well. This isn't technically on the menu, but our waitress hooked it up! For our entrees we ordered the Moroccan lamb meatballs, cornmeal dredged trout, and the salmon harvest benedict. Of the three, the benedict was the table favorite. Not that the meatballs and the trout were bad, but the dishes just weren't quite as cohesive. The couscous salad that came with the meatballs lacked inspiration. It was super dry and didn't have much flavor. The sauteed spinach that I ordered as my side was also lifeless. The meatballs themselves paired with the tomato jam and almond mint yogurt were very good!  Just when we thought we were stuffed, we were seduced by the dessert menu! We had a good laugh wondering what "lemon scented" cheesecake meant and trying to pronounce sonker du jour. Both were very good but I think the sonker du jour was my favorite. You just can't go wrong with a warm fruit pastry and vanilla ice cream. Such a classic combo! Overall, we had a lovely time. I think I may have just put this place on a pedestal that it didn't quite live up to. From what I can tell their brunch is more acclaimed, so I would suggest trying something from that menu when you visit. read more

We made reservations for Saturday night at Harvest Grill and were very happy with our dinner and time spent there. The food was delicious; appetizer of Spanish Tortilla Egg Rolls, Shrimp & Grits, and their Braised Lamb Shank that was fall off the bone and juicy. The polenta and cauliflower sides were really good too. Service was very good too. Young staff, but all came off as professional and curteous, and helpful. We had a bottle of the Tannat and it went very well with both dishes. Also, the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the Holiday Season, as was their tasting room. The Harvest Grill is a great deal when you factor in the price of a bottle of wine. Most restaurants now are serving generic wines at very high prices and questionable quality. We know Shelton Wines are high qaulity local wines and are made on the same property. That's what local dining is all about. They locally source their food seasonally here, and you can taste it. Buy some bottles at the tasting room, and then pay a corkage fee at your next offsite restaurant you visit. It'll be worth the upcharge to know you don't end up with a medicore wine that's loaded with sugar and three times the price. read more

We have stopped here to eat many times over the last ten plus years. This past time was one of our best experiences. We ordered the Fishmonger's Prime which was Halibut over a bed of angel hair spaghetti and capers and fresh spinach. The entire meal was delicious and excellently prepared. Rounded off our day at Shelton Vineyards with a birthday dinner here at Harvest Grill. Goat cheese fondue - more chips and get rid of the bread sticks. Very good though. Main courses of fillet and duck were both very good. Dessert - espresso cheesecake was very good. I had the fortunate opportunity to visit Shelton Winery and have dinner at Harvest Grill following a relaxing stroll to the property from next door. I'm shocked this restaurant made Yelp's Top 100 for 2022 only because it should have been on the list long before now. Before I get to the good parts, I am going to get the less-than-stellar parts out of the way first. My group and I dined outside under the tented canopy as the sun was setting and the last vestiges of golden hour were disappearing from the sky. After the sun went down, it was practically pitch dark out. Our servers put tea candles on the table, but it was like peeing on a forest fire--it didn't help and it was still dark. We couldn't see our food without taking photos of it with the flash and then looking at the photos to see what we got and then hoping for the best as we dug in. I didn't realize how much we rely on visual cues to tell us how much we are enjoying our food. But nevertheless, I did enjoy the food (and the service!) I had grilled chicken with rice pilaf, wax green beans, and added on grilled shrimp for my main course. I thought there was way too much rice for my portion but I got to take it home, so that was a plus. The dessert was the best part. While most of my group got peach sonker for dessert, I opted for the chocolate ganache cake and it was a pure winner. Served with coffee ice cream and a caramel drizzle, I wish I'd started with the dessert and worked my way around the menu. Speaking of the menu, I appreciate a place that has relationships with the farms and producers who make the area great with its agricultural enterprises and Harvest Grill does exactly that. This place didn't originally show up on yelp until we were at the gas station less than a mile away. The website says you have to have reservations and it's a classy place but we were passing through and I had on sweatpants and they told me it was totally ok and they didn't have a dress code. This place is absolutely beautiful. And the food, my gosh! It was so good. Service was fast. Made reservations a month in advance for my wife's birthday. Didn't know what the weather or the cover would be like so I put in the notes "prefer outside but inside if it's hot". When we arrived we were told we couldn't sit outside as all the tables were reserved, yet in the 90 minutes we were there about six tables sat unused. Service was very slow. Wife had the tuna Niocoise and i had the wagyu sliders. Both were over cooked. My wife had to ask for her side of spinach. When it came to desert, we reminded the server it was her birthday, and did they comp it? Nope. The wine was good and we had another bottle after lunch in the main building. We are wine club members and love the wine and the ambiance here. It's just peaceful and beautiful. But we wouldn't do the restaurant again. read more

I have eaten at Harvest Grill numerous times in the past, it has always been favorable in my memories. I was invited to go with friends this past weekend, I couldn't wait to revisit. Spending time at Shelton Vineyards is so relaxing, great wines and a gorgeous property, the icing on the cake is Harvest Grill. They offer an extensive farm to table menu and great wine list, they offer most of the wines by the glass too, so you can try different wines with each course. I really enjoy the Bin 17 unoaked Chardonnay. it is balanced, with citrus, tropical fruit notes. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious, the stand out was the Black Eye Pea salad, even though there were no black eye peas in it. But it was still delicious. Maybe change the name to field pea salad? Everyone really enjoyed the crabcake too, of course save room for dessert and order a sonker. Surry County and Wilkes County make a regional dessert similar to cobbler, be sure to try it. If you are on a road trip, you could schedule a stop here and surprise everyone in the car with your forward thinking and if you are visiting Shelton, make reservations at Harvest Grill, you will be glad you did. read more

We have long visited the Harvest Grill to celebrate birthdays and special occasions, generally one or two times a year for the past twenty or so years. Our last two visits, April 2024 and December 2022 were very disappointing as the level of service and quality of the food had dropped significantly. I had a late birthday lunch here today. It was my first time in. The approach to the restaurant takes you through the first part of the vineyard, which is beautiful, even this time of year. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Even though it was raining today we saw a crew working. For lunch I had the salmon sandwich, which was packed with great flavors. It was too big to handle so I just ate it using a knife and fork. I had fresh fruit as a side. Considering the time of year we are in, it was surprisingly good. Our waitress was happy and helpful. I received a complimentary birthday dessert - brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Even though it was not something would have ordered, it was excellent! My only complaint was the length of time it took for the hostess to acknowledge me. We had a reservation and my lunch buddy was already there and seated. However, the great meal made up for that. All the meals were excellent in presentation & taste. We were the last table & the chef came out to speak with us about each of our meals. Felt like we in a Seinfeld Episode. Upon arriving, we were told that our table in the dining room was given to another party. Since we had 6 in our party, they pulled 2 tables on the patio together, that were completely level with each other. So , I guess they know how to take a reservation, but they don't know how to keep one. The other disappointment was the Brunswick Stew, it was flavorless and it contained potatoes that were undercooked. Everything about the meal was good. Okay first of all I apologize for not having any actual pictures of the food but we were there for a murder mystery dinner and so it was real hard to listen to the actors and eat and take pictures of the same time. What I can tell you is that if you want to eat at the harvest grill at Shelton vineyard in Dobson you should just stop at the Dairy-O in Winston-Salem and eat a hamburger and french fries and skip the meal at the harvest grill because it's absolute garbage. We spent $75 a person for the menu that you can see. the pasta was literally uncooked the pasta sauce was cold the shrimp was not hot at all. the beef was so rare that I'm pretty sure it still had the hide on it and honestly the best thing about the entire dinner was the roll. The tiramisu was pretty decent but everything else about the meal was about one of the worst meals I've ever had and considering it cost my wife and I $190 total it's probably the worst meal I've ever had for the money. read more

We ended up here as much out of chance as anything else, luck was on our side. We'd started out to just wander up toward Pilot Mtn, Mt Airy, or Dobson and see what if any leaf color was there, and grab some food at some point. There was no more color here than we saw on our visit to the Morganton area earlier. We decided to try Dobson, since there were several mom & pop restaurant there that might offer a surprise, and a couple of winery cafes that might work out. The first 3 options were disasters - the first had more flies than menu options, the second was closed, and the third was less than interested in waiting on us! As we headed out of the third no go spot, we saw signs for Shelton Vineyard, and I remembered that they had a well reviewed grill there, so we headed there. And that's how we stumbled on to Harvest Grill. The dining area is at the back of the building, and three sides are made of large windows making it bright and airy, and the views of the hills loaded with grapevines is very attractive. We ordered the Fin to Fork daily special, and it was Cornmeal dusted Red Drum with the daily sides, Mac & Cheese, and sauteed Spinach. Our other choice was Shrimp & Crab Cake Mac & Cheese with the same sides, each was around $18. The Red Drum was excellent, fresh tasting and perfectly prepared. The Mac & Cheese was exceptional, and a bit different - the cheese was a white, maybe a blend, and was delicious. The Shrimp and Crab Cake entree was generally very good as well, though the crab cake was loaded with meat it was rather bland, while the shrimp in the red pepper cream sauce was great! For many years this has been a bright spot for dining in the Dobson area. Today that changed. Service was extremely slow and the food was not up to par. I had the omelet special and it wasn't. Over cooked and very little filling of ham and cheese. My wife had chicken cafanella. Tough with little flavor. The only thing that saved the meal was the appetizer. I went to harvest grill a couple weeks ago and I was extremely disappointed. I used to love this place but the service was not the best and the food was even worse. Overcooked filet, bland veggies, the crab dip was simply terrible. The food they are currently serving is what you would eat at a dinner for less than half the price. Also, I feel like I have always overlooked the very dated decor because the food and service were excellent but this restaurant is in need of some TLC. Time to invest on this restaurant so the looks and the food match the excellent wine that Shelton produces. read more
