We frequent Pickle and Ash often, especially for special occasions. They never fail! Celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary, we chose the 4-cheese ravioli with veggies and shrimp, and the stuffed trout with grits and veg. Yummo!! They were very busy, but the staff teamed up to ensure drinks were delivered, plates served and tables bussed. The ever changing menu and rotating taps make each visit unique and awesome. I don't love the (too) high bench along the wall but it's a great idea and space saver. P&A is always a home run when we visit! read more

We ate here a lot when it first opened, but had some below average meals and haven't been in the past few years. The menu prices are shocking: $18 glasses of wine, $26 meatloaf and $28 veggie ravioli (with $8-10 protein add ons). The burger is the only item less than $20. That said, the portions are large and the food is tasty. Honestly, anyone can eat at Primland for the same money and the food, ambiance and views are better. Perhaps other people feel the same as they only filled about half the tables once on a Friday night. read more

Other than the absolutely awful and uncomfortable chairs, the ambiance is okay. Really really wish we had known about the patio beforehand as that would have been preferable. However you can't see it from the front and we weren't given an option for seating. Non alcoholic drinks are extremely limited. Of course I got the "sweet tea" that was anything but sweat. It had an aftertaste that two packets of sugar could not overcome. I opted for water instead, which was actually pretty good. I don't know if they are on a well or whatnot but the water had a smooth quality to it. Anyhow, waitress was a little... slow. Not like a mental or physical way. But l'm thinking a chemically enhanced kind of slow. It was like someone had pushed the slo-mo button on her remote. She moved and talked in a comically slow way. She stood there and stared when we asked for a couple more minutes to look at the menus. She also forgot all about our appetizer, like she could not even remember that we ordered one even though we had talked to her about it, and we were the only table so she shouldn't have been overwhelmed. Speaking of appetizers, our sucked. "Appalachian Stuffed Grape Leaves" Not sure what about it made it Appalachian other than maybe the lack of meat you normally find in traditional ones. The rice was very undercooked. I called it "Al dente" though I suppose it could have just been old rice. The rice was mixed with some sort of cheese, though we could not get a consensus at the table as to what kind: Pimento or some kind of goat cheese. The grape leaves were the more mature, woody kind and these ones were also unnaturally green, as compared to the younger more tender ones generally used. Anyhow this was all tightly rolled into something not much bigger around than a pencil. I had the shrimp and grits. It was good. Nice big shrimp, perfectly cooked, and plenty of them. Grits were well cooked, though I'd prefer a little dryer. Overall the dish had a hint of taste and could have been outstanding with just a pinch of salt. None provided at the table and waitress went to get some but apparently forgot. My one companion had the portobello mushroom ravioli with snow peas and asparagus. I got to try some of it and while an interesting combination that I would never do, it was very tasty.definitely worth trying again some day with the protein add on. The third person in our party got the special that was two 4 oz steak medallions. He said it was very good, and did not offer up even a taste of what he had. It was kinda weird at the end. The waitress just kinda slipped the check and quickly went away. We had to ask about desserts. She said she'd bring us menus (I assumed there was more than three). When she did get around to bringing us ONE menu, she awkwardly stood there staring at us until I said we would need a couple minutes. The dessert menu looks extensive but it was 85% alcohol with only the three previously mentioned I desserts. We opted out of dessert this time around. Maybe there will be something special next time. For a skimpy appetizer, three entrees, and one beverage a $40 average per person is a little too high end for regular visits, but maybe the occasional special treat. read more

I've been here a few times and it never disappoints!!!! Having celiac can be tricky and the chef is amazing at always informing me of possible cross contamination and offering me alternatives that aren't even on the menu!!! That is above and beyond!!! Angela has been my server twice and you are in for a treat if you're lucky enough to share your time with her!! And don't forget Sunday brunch the first two Sundays of the month....seriously, this is a must try!!!! To say this is one of our absolute favorite restaurants is an understatement. We have a vacation home nearby so we don't get in as often as we'd like but if we ever decide to retire there permanently I will be beating the door down to become part of this fabulous crew. Food is impeccable and inventive, service is excellent, and we are always met with cheerful faces and a clean, fresh environment. I had the quiche special with their speciality salad that has goat cheese, pickled golden beets, and caramelized pecans and a white balsamic dressing! My partner had the catfish sandwich...the bread was house made and the chow chow on it was soooo good! Our staff person was friendly and engaging! I cannot say enough great things about Pickle and Ash! We've had a little vacation spot near Stuart for a while and one of the biggest complaints we've had is that there are only a few restaurants in town and none bc of those are real spectacular. Well that is no longer the case! Pickle and Ash is right in highway 58 in a building that has been a few other restaurants, but they have done a great job transpiring it into an upscale place! Super nice bar, a really nice (and huge) covered outdoor area, and even areas with fire pits! Every server and bartender I have encountered was awesome and definitely knew the menu which is very helpful for a place like this. Pickle and Ash changes up a lot of the menu items constantly depending on what they can get available fresh meaning you can always try something a little different! They also have some very good handmade cocktails made with fresh ingredients. I have seen the bartender walk out back before to clip more herbs from the garden. Overall and great addition to Stuart and I hope they do great in the area! read more

The best meal I have had since I dined at a Michelin-rated restaurant in Manhattan earlier this year-and so much easier to get to! Every bite I put in my mouth was conversation-stopping (and I love to talk), from the soup of the day (super fresh squash cubes bathed in a sumptuous tomato-bisque kind of base) to the spectacular medium-rare filet migon to the bourbon vinegar-crust pie (I am all over the web now looking for a way to recreate it at home). Just a simple roadside restaurant with a pretty sign that invites you to stop and check it out! We enjoyed lunch (hear dinner is a treat) but remember to get a reservation if you want dinner through the website. I had a burger that was delicious with a ranch sauce and tomato jam making it really unique and worth the drive. My mom ( travel buddy this year) had a hearty greens salad that was also very good. She did add the protein of chicken, which was a bit dry, but was still a solid choice. We had a Nutella cake with raspberry filled layers that was good. We would eat there again for at least lunch. You would never know Pickle and Ash was as delightful as it is from the main road. Very understated looking from the outside and super cute and very trendy on the inside. When you walk in off to the right is a mini retail establishment and to the left is the the dining room. Super clean bathrooms and the staff is absolutely wonderful. We've driven past Pickle and Ash many times and finally made a reservation for a Valentines dinner. Stuart VA is in southwest Virginia - not too close to any major cities, so to find this wonderful restaurant was a delight! We were seated immediately and picked a cup of soup and a small, fresh salad to start. Dinner was steak, baby potatoes and mushrooms, and broccolini. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked. Went for lunch during a weekend visit to Meadows of Dan. Excellent food and service. Hannah had our table and was outstanding. Desserts are made in-house and are delightful. I live in Buford Georgia and each time I am in Virginia I always try to get by and visit this establishment. The owners try to use local produce and meats. The salads are my favorite. In fact all I have ever ordered was a salad. However my friends always venture farther down the menu and no one has ever complained about anything we ordered. All the food including desserts are made on site.The cocktails are unique in my opinion. The staff is friendly and professional. My favorite server is Julie. She has been working each time we have been dining. When leaving check out the items for sale. I bet you find something to take home. Where I am from it is very difficult finding an establishment like this. We may have them but I haven't found them. So I go out of my way to make this restaurant a stop when in Virginia, the food is worth it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I always do. read more

What a pleasant surprise for brunch on Sunday. This little gem is located deep in rural Stuart, Virginia. Our server was Janise and she added to the perfect experience. We started with house made Bloody Marys, delicious. Don't miss the biscuit board with biscuits, black pepper gravy, pickled jalapeño, country ham, herb cheese, onion relish. HEAVEN! I shared two entrees with a friend, eggs Benedict with cornbread, garlic sautéed spinach, country ham, poached eggs and a mustard hollandaise. Very decadent and full of flavors. We also had the frittata of the day, fresh basil, tomato, peppers, spinach and parmigiana, very light and flavorful. We subbed house fries for the grits! My husband enjoyed his burger and her husband had a breakfast skillet with sweet potatoes l, sausage and eggs (only complaint- eggs over cooked). Oh and they serve French press coffee with a timer so it's perfection. We can't wait to go back. Their backyard looks like a fun place in warmer weather. read more

Great find in Stuart. We were out scratching around on our motos when we found this gem just outside Stuart. Great menu where we featured the not-too-hot Korean chicken sandwich w/kimchi, lobster bisque, and ciabatta chicken breast w/pesto. We tried two appetizers and two entries and shared a dessert and everything was fabulous! In addition, there is a market attached to the restaurant that has a wonderful selection of local items including honey (can't wait to try it!) wine, and other assorted goodies which were all priced very reasonably. I literally can't say enough good things about this place. My family and I ate there this past weekend and everything was delicious! I had the mushroom soup and the salad my husband had the trout special and my son had a grilled chicken breast. For dessert we shared the crème brûlée and it was heaven. I also LOVED the artwork hanging and tried to buy one of the photos lol sadly it wasn't for sale. They also had nice almost like French classic jazz going in the back ground but like the good stuff that just makes you think upscale. The pricing was good too. We will be going again :) read more
