Grilled chicken salad Loaded baked potato Crab dip
    Allison P.

We've eaten here fairly frequently throughout the years, and some times it's fantastic and other times it's not. We ate there last Saturday and arrived 5:30. We were seated and our drink ordered were taken fairly quickly. We ordered a kids meal and app with our drinks, and were ready to order entrees when our drinks arrived. The FOH service was prompt. However it took a substantial amount of time for any food to arrive. I ordered a chicken salad and baked potato, and crab dip for the table. The kiddo had chicken tenders and fries. Nothing was spectacular and honestly not worth the wait. We didn't leave until almost 7pm and there were masses of people waiting. Always a cool concept but unreliable execution.

Husband enjoying nice platter of popcorn shrimp.

this is the place for seafood. When I went to my table and looked around every platter looked delicious. My husband and I ate off of the senior menu. I had the catfish dinner. I was surprised I had two fillets of catfish. It must have come straight from the pan because it was hot and I had to let it cool for a minute to eat it. it was delicious. It came with coleslaw and a loaded baked potato. I wasn't thrilled with the coleslaw or the baked potato, but it tasted all right. My husband had the popcorn front shrimp and he said it was excellent. He also got a baked potato and coleslaw which he said he liked both. The place was very clean and nicely decorated like a pirate ship. It was a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't very crowded. Our waiter was nice but a little too talkative. He talked to the couple in the table next to us what seemed like forever and we wondered when we were going to get fresh drinks and the hush puppies he promised. By the way, the hush puppies are like none I've ever seen or eaten. They were long and thin, not greasy and very delicious. I would definitely go back.

The only reason for a missing star is that this environment is not for everyone. It's terrific if you want to bring your children to a place where they can totally entertain themselves while you enjoy a lunch with friends. I was looking for a quiet place where I could relax. That was difficult with a little girl (even though she was precious and cute) screaming and riding a skateboard inside. I was glad that she and her little brother could just be themselves and have a great time, but that can be somewhat problematic for diners. Just be aware going in that if this isn't your style you may just want to get a take out.

The Buckin' Elk is a turkey BLT with avacado, and whatever fixin's you want. We also had the Italian - salami and cheese, lettuce, tomato, whatever you want. Great! Serving sizes are ample - actually, two could share a sandwich. Limited sides - pasta salad, etc. Packaged chips. Service was quick and friendly. ** They use local lettuce, from Greenhouse Towers in State Road. They use a pesticide free, aeroponic tower garden system. They provide greens for Hugh Chatham Hospital and a number of area restaurants. We highly recommend Kaye's.
