My coworker and I were visiting an equipment manufacturer in the area. He is familiar with Harry's and suggested we stop in for lunch. I really did not know what to expect and followed his lead as I was driving. We parked in a lot nearby because there was construction on the river bank road (Front Street) that limited our access to the roadway. I would consider Harry's a true hole in the wall! A no frills place with a limited menu. They serve their lunch menu Monday through Friday, 11am to 1:30pm and the Dinner menu Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 4:30pm to 8:30pm. We walked inside, chose a table and had a seat. There were several other tables seated and enjoying their meals when we walked inside. The menus are on the table and we were quickly offered drinks. When our drinks arrived we placed our order. We both decided to order the cheeseburger with chips. A short while later our food arrived. The burgers looked delicious. I noticed the drinks and food were all provided with disposable plates and cups. It was pretty clear the burger was not frozen. It appeared to be a hand formed patty. The cheese appeared to be similar to Kraft singles. I had fresh onion and lettuce on mine which was perfect. Overall this was a great stop and I would return. The burger was perfect. The price was reasonable. The service was exceptional and our drinks were filled before asking. There is an active railroad track on the other side of Fuller Street across from Harry's which is very close. A train came by while we were eating and we could hear it well, and our table shook. I now consider myself a fan. They are very good at what they do and considering they have been in business since 1954, they are a local favorite! read more

Who would of thought Crab legs would be the best you ever had and not be at the coast?!! A hole in the wall, 9 table, quaint, no frills restaurant - with a wait for hours to eat here! I see why! The cook, wait staff, everything- was excellent! I'm a self professed foodie snob and there is not 1 thing I could remotely say was bad. Amazing crab legs and excellent customer service! Each time I visit I order the crab legs which come with a salad, baked potato, and toast. The crab legs are cooked perfectly and the service time is reasonable. The crab legs are not all you care to eat, but you will receive a good amount. There is a sink in the restaurant so that you can wash your hands after dining. The restaurant is small so make sure to arrive early (4:30/45 pm) in order to get a table or be prepared to wait. Would definitely recommend and plan to visit again! read more

Saw Harry's Place on Yelp, and we thought we'd give it a try! Our hotel told us to be there at 5:00 or we would be waiting. Arrived at 5:15 and the place was packed. We were able to grab seats at the bar immediately. We both had cheeseburgers and they were amazing. They are known for their steak and crab legs and I have no doubt they are delicious also. Great ribeye steak, likely marinated with just the right amount of marble and cooked perfectly. Peak and eat shrimp were fantastic. Seasoned and served cold. The only thing that would have been better is being served warm so it doesn't congeal the melted butter with old bay so quickly. Where else can you get delicious crab legs for $20??? No where! But be warned - crab legs are only Wednesday and Saturday night (the rest of the time you can choose from other delicious items, like steak) - and you will likely have to wait in line. Pretty extensive beer list, good steaks and servers who treat you like family. Forget about the plastic table cloths, the self-serve napkins and enjoy watching the cook make your meal - leave any pretentiousness at the door, and have a down-home good time! read more

I have stopped in on several occasions to eat here. Food is always good. However I am concerned that she is letting some of her staff hurt her business. I was In elkin on Wednesday night 1/26/22 and noticed one of the waitresses going to the cooler and getting wine out while waiting on customer and drinking it herself. Not very professional from my stand point ! I really don't think the LLA would approve of this behavior. Maybe this post will help her open her eyes. We weren't sure what to make of some of the reviews before we dined here, but now we "get it". Yes, they do have plastic tablecloths and no, you don't go for the ambience. But the food is really good. We started out with a half pound of 'peel and eat' shrimp as an appetizer and they were very good. My dining companion had the Ribeye steak, baked potato, side salad and texas toast - and she said it was really good! "If you close your eyes, and go just by the taste of the food, you'll think you're in an upscale restaurant" she said. I had the crab legs with baked potato, side salad and toast and they were fantastic! Very generous portions! especially the crab legs! That said, this place is not for everybody. If you are picky and expect everything to be customized just for you, you'll be disappointed! The side salads are pre-mixed, so you can't get them it "without this, or without that." The sweet creamy Italian dressing is house made and quite good - the rest of the salad dressings are Kraft 'out of the bottle'. Went here alone from out of town for lunch. Teresa introduced herself and staff to me and made me feel more than right at home. Had their great home style fried chicken with three sides, the chicken was moist, well seasoned and not at all greasy. Judging by the crowds and the volume of take out business they do Teresa doesn't even need my review, but they deserve it for providing such a pleasant dining experience. I had the steak ($13) and it came with a salad, texas toast and a baked potato. Steak was marinated in something, not sure what, but it was good. It was also very tender. The dressing for the salad was almost like Sunny Italy dressing (creamy Italian), and it tasted great. My wife got the cheeseburger and potato chips. ($6) The burger was hand patted, and tasted great. Some homemade chips would go better with this delicious burger, than plain potato chips. Harry's is more than a Diamond in the rough! I've been eating here two or three times a year when working in the area. The food is always delicious, the wait can take a while. Harry's has limited seating, around 12 tables. If the tables are full when you arrive they have a clipboard that you put your name on until a table is ready for you. The crab legs are cooked perfectly on Wednesday & Friday & Saturday nights when they serve them. The house dressing is homemade & incredible. The steaks are tender and have a great flavor & taste. The atmosphere is a cross between a roadside grill and a bar. The red checked plastic table cloths are practical not fancy. Definitely worth finding this gem by the railroad tracks! read more
