If you tell someone you are meeting them there, you better specify specifically where, because there's an outdoor area, a downstairs indoor that is more like a pool hall, and multiple upstairs areas. Anyhow, I found myself here after a hot day of golf outside of town, and this was the perfect place to please everyone, get a cold drink, and something tasty to eat. Beverage wise, I was too dehydrated to jump into beer, so I just pounded a bunch of water while there. Food wise however, we had lots of tasty things. The hot chips app that comes drizzled with bbq sauce and ranch is better than it sounds, though I preferred the pickle chips for sure. To me, the star here were the wings. They were nice and large, plump with plenty of meat. I had a korean sauce and a hot honey sauce and thoroughly enjoyed all 10. Maybe even had a leftover drummy or two from some of my companions. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated right away. The vibe was great and the decor was spot on. The hostess and our waiter were very friendly and helpful. The draft list was only accessible by scanning the QR code. Not normally an issue for me but it was a little annoying since my cell service wasn't great in this area. I finally got it to pull up and asked for the Angry Troll PB Porter (I forget the name), the waiter asked if I wanted a sample first and I was so happy he did because it was not very peanut buttery to me. I decided to try a can of Docs: Pumpkin cider which ended up being a MUCH better choice for me. It was delicious. We started with some cheese curds as an appetizer. The kids split a kids cheese pizza (it comes with fries) and my bestie and I split a Philly Cheesesteak pizza. The cheese curds were amazing! I didn't try the kids pizza although the fries seemed a little over seasoned, especially since they were served to kids. My Philly pizza was not great though. The primary taste was banana peppers. Not meat, not cheese...the vinegar-y, sour taste of banana peppers. I was not a fan. Then the bill comes....I guess I should have asked for the price of the cider (NONE of the beer has a price listed.) My CAN of Doc's cider was $9.50. Tried a few of the beers (oktrollberfest, sunrise valley haze and blackjack. They were all good but none of them were great in my opinion. The spinach artichoke dip and wings were both awesome. Small town brewery with really good food, decent beer. They also have Skull Camp beer on tap in addition to their own line. I had a Southern Comfort burger and an order of Jalapeno Poppers. The poppers came with a chili sauce that paired really well and the poppers themselves were crispy and well done, probably some of the poppers I've ever had. The burger was also well made, juicy and full of flavor. They also had a wood-fired pizza oven, I did not try the pizza but based on what I could see in the kitchen and the food I tried I'd assume they know what they're doing with their pizza too. Overall the food side of this brewery seemed solid and very well done. I only had one beer, an Angry Troll English Style Bitter. It was a good solid ESB, nothing that blew me away but something I'd be happy to drink all evening. The brewery itself was a casual, welcoming space that seems like it would be suitable for both families and locals looking to relax with a few beers. There's a large number of TVs which would make this a good place to take in a game. Liked this place more than expected. Upstairs has a bar but is more the resturaunt. Downstairs feel like an actual brewery and has live music and a large bar area. The second half of the downstairs is all pool tables. They have a decent variety of beer, more than just a menu of IPA's like many places. So you should find something you like and they do have some ciders. Bar also offers mixed drinks. Upstairs offers pizza, sandwiches and some appetizers. One of the party went to the hostess stand we they were handed a buzzer after out party decided to sit out front. They handed them a buzzer with no instruction. After about 10-15 minutes of sitting out front, someone stopped a waitress that was assisting the only other party setting outside and asked about getting some service. She stated she would see who our server was and went inside...within seconds two hostesses came outside and asked what the issue was. We explained that we were given a buzzer with no instructions so we weren't sure what was going on since we were already sitting at a table... One of the hostess said, "I said 20 minutes, I know because I was there," and then walked away. The other hostess says, "Um yeah...we gave you the buzzer to let you know when your server would be available...because...you know...we're busy" and also walked away... It really wasn't what was said, it was how they said it, with no apology Or explanation. They were extremely rude about the situation and we just did not feel welcome there...at all. Needless to say, we left the buzzer on the table and left the establishment. Such a terrible first impression to make for a dining spot that was referred to us by locals. Our personable and hard-working server, Virginia, was kind enough to offer a few suggestions. It is in the quality of the food where Angry Troll stands apart. Fried pickles were cut into thin chips perfect for dipping. A BBQ chicken sandwich offered tender meat, lots of cheese, crispy bacon, and a slathering of aptly-named Sweet Heat sauce. It was a beast to eat, but it was worth every messy bite. My wife opted for a Southern Comfort burger featuring local beef, house-made pimento, and an onion ring, and it too proved tasty and satisfying. The teriyaki chicken sandwich is delicious, the Philly is pretty good although I got the pickled chilis on the side as they are a little warm and my stomach doesn't like them Everything is a la carte so you order your sides separately from the food if you want a side. We stumbled upon Angry Troll while checking out the Elkin area. We drove by and were intrigued by the beautiful brick building. We did a quick google search and read that they are a brewery serving pizza in a historical building. We love all three and felt it was a must stop! There is street parking but they also have a private parking lot which was appreciated since we didn't have any luck finding an available parking spot on the street. The Liberty building is occupied by Coley Hall at The Liberty, which is a beautiful event space. Angry Troll has their restaurant and bar on the second floor and they also recently opened their Taproom and "barcade" area in the basement. The Taproom features a large bar area, various conversation areas with nice, comfortable furniture. The barcade area ajoining through a doorway has approximately eight pool tables and an air hockey table that we noticed. Dannie was very gracious and gave us the history of the building and answered all of our questions while she guided us through the different areas of the building. We decided to sit down in the restaurant and order some food and started with the cheese curds and I ordered one of their IPA's. My wife ordered the large caprese salad while I ordered the 12" triple threat pizza with extra sauce. Our cheese curds arrived quickly and looked and tasted delicious! We enjoyed looking around the building and relaxing on a beautiful summer afternoon. Our food arrived and looked yummy. My wife enjoyed her caprese salad and I thought the pizza was good but not great, I wish the crust had been thicker. Overall, this is a great stop if you are in Elkin. I was eating my meal and having a beer watching the game when I saw the bartender speaking rudely to an older woman a few seats down. He seemed to be complaining to her for sitting down after my friend offered his seat to her since they were leaving. He said something like - don't ask people to move their seats... I don't know the bartender's name but he had long greasy hair. My wife and I recently stopped at Angry Troll brewing after a nice morning hike at Stone Mountain State Park. After about 5 miles, it was time for some food and a cold drink, and Angry Troll really hit the spot. This was also my first time visiting downtown Elkin in a long time and it has turned into a nice little area! Angry Troll was relatively crowded, which was to be expected on a weekend, but we did not have to wait long and sat at their outdoor seating on the street since we had our dog with us. Service was quick and everyone we interacted with was great! They had a nice selection of beers, ciders, and also had a full bar if you were looking for a mixed drink. They have their own beers, but had a number of options available from other breweries as well. For lunch we actually both got salads and I must say it was certainly better than average. Very large and very fresh with a ton of toppings. As we were leaving I also noticed that they have a separate bar underneath the main one, so there is plenty of room even if it look to be pretty crowded! Overall we had a great lunch, and I will definitely keep it on the list of places to stop if in the area visiting Stone Mountain or one of the many wineries in the area! read more

The place that actually has the sign for Angry Troll Brewing is apparently closed but no sign on the locked doors to say "Hey go upstairs to the place that is called the Liberty since this place doesn't actually exist!" Also, the door under the sign that says "Angry Troll Brewing Two Twenty Two " is also locked w/o a sign that says "go in the door around the corner. It's like they actively want to keep people away from this so-called brewery. The only reason I even bothered was I SAW a bunch of people sitting inside! When I approached the hostess stand and asked if this was Angry Troll, she was like "I mean yeah, u can get the beers at the bar". I was like "so u really should have signs because I just tried w diff entrances and they were locked" and she goes "yeah, well downstairs is closed" "well you all should have a sign that says that" "K whatever". Then, I order a flight and I don't know howTF they poured the beers!? Literally each glass had a diff amt of beer. Not that it mattered because all except one of the beers in the flt wasn't complete garbage. I have been to little podunk breweries all over the US and they are usually great. The only saving grace was at least the bartender was nice. But, everything here was beyond disappointing! As a stand-alone Brewery, it is not a thing. No taproom . This was a great local place with lots of TVs, and menu items to choose from. We tried the pizza, house salad, and bbq chicken sandwich with onion rings. All of the food was flavorful and brought out hot. The brick oven pizza was good but for me I would have liked it cooked a little more so it was more crusty around the edges. I would only give the service 3 stars. The waitress was quick to show up and take our order and bring drinks. But, when the food runners dropped off our meals, it took her a while to see if we needed anything. They did not have salt & pepper on the table, nor did they leave Parmesan cheese, or red peppers for the pizza. It took us until our 3rd pizza slice before we flagged her down for condiments and drink refills. The other opportunity I saw was that the table was not bused as we eat or when she came by. Meaning she left salad bowls, and empty beer bottles that we had to push off to one side. Menu has lots of great options. Pizza was hot and very flavorful. Good amount of sauce and crust wasn't too crunchy or chewy. Both Philly and chicken cheesesteak were good. Nachos were a little disappointing though... got large loaded to split but they were basically just chips with salsa and not much queso and portion wasn't very big for sharing. I would order everything but the nachos next time. We had a large group (9) so food didn't come out super fast and some meals were brought out at different times. We also needed to wait decently long at dinner time so maybe try and call ahead if you have a larger group or expect to wait longer.
