This was my second time eating at Cowboy Restaurant in Elkin. I first visited last summer, and it was fantastic -- the food was absolutely delicious! My brother-in-law is obsessed with this place. He talks about it so much you'd think he owns it (he doesn't, but the way he hypes it up, you'd never know). This time, I ordered the filet, medium rare, with hush puppies, a baked potato, and a side salad. Everything was great, though they did bring the steak out medium well instead of medium rare. That was the only small miss, but honestly, it was still really good. The service here is fantastic -- the staff is friendly, quick, and they really make you feel welcome. On top of that, the restaurant has a very cool country vibe. I love the laid-back atmosphere, and the rocking chairs outside are a perfect touch. Quaint little spot in a nice little area. Parking lot was full, that's usually a good sign. A short wait when we get walked in on a Sunday around noon. Got seated. Camry (like the car) was our server, she goes above and beyond. She kept our beverages full, and came by to check on us plenty. A shining star, you're appreciated. The food was ordered and came out quickly despite the after church bustle and hustle. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, it was pleasant. My dining date had a burger. We both cleaned our plates, meaning the food smacked. I saw some not so great reviews, but my kid chose this place for the bacon cheese fries. Simple plate of fries with cheese sauce and bacon bits, nothing fancy, but still good. I ordered 1/2 lb peel and eat shrimp with fried okra, corn nuggets, and hushpuppies. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of shrimp. All of it had good flavor. Kid ordered plain cheeseburger with fries. They complained it had too much flavor. I took a bite and it tasted like a good beef burger to me. I had a long day and needed someplace to have a drink. I was walking and came across cow Bar north hills. I was greeted by the most beautiful smile. Her name was Ta'Tanisha, What a friendly intro. My wife and I were looking for a lunch place in the area and picked the Cowboy Restaurant. Not knowing what it was, we decided to visit. We envisioned a bar/restaurant theme and were mistaken. It's like a mom and pop diner from the 60's Midwest. Clean interior and nice staff. Served promptly and any questions we had, the server answered them. I had the fried fish and my wife had chicken. A solid three, which is not bad. The service was great. The food arrived quickly. Orders included a club sandwich. It looked scrumptious! It's recipient described it as ok, but the bread not toasted enough. Two ordered the sirloin steak. It was reportedly good, not great, but good. I ordered the sautéed chicken with vegetables over rice. It was flavorful but came with a small amount of rice and was a bit too greasy. After driving around Elkin for a place to eat, we came upon Cowboy Restaurant and are so glad we decided to stop in. Our waitress (I wish I had remembered her name) was amazing! She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and efficient. All of our orders were brought out quickly and were accurate. We each enjoyed what we ordered, particularly the ribs which were very tender. In addition, the portions were large, the food was cooked how we requested it, and we were given a complimentary bloomin' onion (which was delicious)! read more

Tried this restaurant a few years ago, when it first opened, I was very disappointed, went back a few years later, and was pleasantly surprised, over the last year we've eaten there several times, with very few problems, the staff is very friendly, and for the most part the food is good, and they do have cold beer, which is always nice read more

I can't speak to what the restaurant atmosphere is like since my first time eating here was during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. However, an employee dropped off a business card at our office and said they would deliver for free if we had 7 or more orders. We were in desperate need of something different, so we gave it a try! Best. Decision. Ever. We have ordered 3 times now and the food is always delicious and the orders are correct. This was my family's first trip to Cowboy's, and we will be back, very soon! The service was fantastic. We had a big group and we were quickly seated and waited on. We also received 2 complementary Blooming Onions; which was such a nice gesture, plus they were delicious. Our food came out quickly, and it was very good. Everything I tried (we all had to try a bit of each other's plates) was excellent. The meatloaf was amazing, as was the cooked cabbage (such great flavor). New place in town, wanted a steak, they had a special, so we decided to give it a try. Started out decently with a blooming onion. It wasn't the best, but the dipping sauce was good. Kids plates are decently priced and all three of the kiddos with us had no complaints at all. The salads we three adults got as sides did come out before the meal and were larger than your normal side salad. Plus the homemade ranch was good. The trouble came with the three adult steak specials which were 12oz ribeyes for $17. We ordered two medium rare and one medium. The medium was mostly fine except for a few more raw areas that my mother in law chose not to eat, but overall she said her's was good. My husband and I ordered the two medium rare ones. They weren't just rare, they were cold to the touch. So we sent them back to be cooked a little more. They came back well done. Not even a bit pink. My husband said the taste was good even though the cook wasn't right, so he ate his. I just couldn't do it. I sent it back again and they were nice about it. They took my entire meal off the ticket and gave us a 25% discount for the entire ticket, but that was only after speaking to the manager. Overall, just not what you want when you're trying to have a nice meal out as a family and spending your hard earned money. We won't be going back. read more

The meat is excellent - VERY tender and tasty ribs. However, they need a new veggie vender. The cheesy potatoes were cold and just nasty tasting. The baked potato, okra, and corn were all good. The waitress we had never refilled our drinks, never removed the dirty dishes, and spent time talking to customers she knew rather than taking our desert order. I generally leave 20% or more because I have been a waitress before, so I know what it's like. I haven't had service this bad in a while.
