3 meat platter (beef brisket and turkey under the toast) + banana pudding
    Jennifer J.

I was in the area with my parents and wanted to try this BBQ joint. We arrived on a Saturday at around 1:30pm and the place was already quite full, but they were able to seat us rather quickly. We decided on sharing the 3 meat plate (pork belly, turkey, and beef brisket) with 2 sides (collard greens and mac and cheese) and asked for toast, along with their banana pudding and it was just the right amount of food for us 3! If you have a big appetite this may not be enough for you, but we were quite full. I am allergic to pork, so I couldn't touch the collard greens and of course the pork belly, but my parents thoroughly enjoyed them both, and they are picky eaters! I e joked everything, and appreciate that the banana pudding was a good size and not too sweet. I am super happy that we all left satisfied and full and ready to tackle Grandfather Mountain right afterwards!

This was the three meat platter with brisket fried pork belly and ribs with beans and coleslaw as a side.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I really enjoyed the atmosphere here very family orientated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sophie was my waitress. She was very attentive and was pleasant the entire time. Me being picky with coleslaw I asked her how it was and she immediately grabbed me a sample instead of trying to explain it to me. I was skeptical about the fried pork belly never had it before. But it was so good and of course being a bacon connoisseur I was very skeptical at first. Sophie really did talk me into getting the pork belly and I'm glad she did. If I ever visit Boone North Carolina again I will definitely come back for more hopefully Sophie will be here!

    $4 for 5 hush puppies....

Overall a decent BBQ place - a few things that I noticed though (1) you can't order just a brisket plate/tray, you have to get it as part of a combo plate. (2) Hush puppies - I can't remember going to a BBQ place and having to order HPs as a side - especially paying $4 for a bowl of 5 of them. (3) After bringing out our plates, one was the wrong plate and when I got the waitress back to correct it, she took the plate that had been on our table for a couple of minutes and put it back in the window so someone could take it to the correct table. I wouldn't want a plate of food that had been sitting at someone else's table.

Our server and the bartender were super. We enjoyed their friendly banter. Started with hush puppies and fried pickles. Plenty of $3 Modela beers. We ordered everything from tacos, Turkey, trays, sandwich and salad. Other than the disappointing mac and cheese (no one ate theirs), food was really good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Don't let the Circle K scare you off. It is not in the gas station--close but a stand alone building.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice live edge table and cool atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great for groups![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place was recommended to us! Delicious BBQ. I had baby back ribs and hubby had brisket platter. Portions are LARGE and everything is tops. We started with glazed pork belly appetizer that you must try too. We arrived at lunch on Tuesday. I was the only woman most of the time. Mostly working guys coming in on lunch break in groups. Energy is all good and a big selection of beer on tap. Even though we walked in behind several big groups, we had great service and food came fast. Highly recommend. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's in an old barn with fun decor. Very country/small town local feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is a WIN for us.

Wow! Excellent BBQ with massive servings! Standard college kid working her way through college was pretty awesome and very friendly. The Chicharrones/ Pork rinds with smokehouse rub with cheddar queso for dippin' was FANtastic! The Brisket was wet (fatty) and perfectly smoked. I will DEFINITELY go back when I head back to Western Carolina.

I wanted to try some bbq and saw this place as an option. It had been rainy all day but it was finally clearing out. I have my dog with me so I hoped to sit outside but it is not covered. Instead I ordered it to go and it was ready in the 20 minutes I was quoted. I got the pulled pork plate with a side of Mac and cheese and collared greens, and then the add on brisket. The sides were okay, kinda salty. The meat was pretty good. I had enough food to save for a second meal too.

Good if not great Texas style bbq. Nothing really stood out, but it was a decent meal for everyone involved.

My burger was delicious and above and beyond any fast-food burger I have had before, at comparable prices. They serve grass-fed beef, chuck, round and sirloin. It is fresh, not frozen, and the meats are without hormones. My portion of fries was large, and I couldn't finish them. A smaller portion option would have been nice. I found the setup here confusing, as I wasn't sure where to enter from the parking lot, and then I wasn't sure where to order. Ordering is done at the kiosk or via a QR code. So expect a wait for the kiosk. I use kiosks and apps often, but this particular system was not smooth. I found the kiosk not as easy to use as it should have been; after I selected what I wanted, there was no way to get to the next screen to check out. I went with the build-your-own and was also disappointed that tomatoes weren't an option to add to the burger, but maybe they were out. They are a cashless business. When your order is ready, it is placed on a front cart, while drinks and sauces are self-serve. If I return, I will likely stick to the drive-thru, as that seems to be a much smoother ordering experience. Having a real person take your order and hand you everything you need at the window beats fighting with the kiosk inside.

The Pedalin' Pig may reside in the same location that Woodlands once occupied, and the layout may not be different, but nothing feels genuine about the food offered here. The quality and flavor of the offerings seem equivalent to pre-packaged barbecue and sides you'd pick up in a supermarket. I must not be the only one unimpressed, for this place used to be quite popular but now I rarely find many diners present here. Lower demand may be helping the speed of service, and the staff members seem pleasant, but I wonder if such a landmark is destined to fade into failure. Finding that Woodlands magic would be a great way to recover, but it seems unlikely. For the record, I've also eaten at Pedalin' Pig locations in Boone and Banner Elk, and I've never been impressed by them either. If you like those, then maybe the food here will suit you fine. But if you prefer the Woodlands of old, friends, you'd best just rely on your memories rather than trying what's left behind.

Our waitress was nice and friendly but definitely struggling and the food itself was very mediocre. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and sat outside as a group of 7. We started with waters and then a couple trays of chips and salsa. We opted for the house fire roasted and pico options. The chips were a good portion but each one came with maybe one ounce of each sauce...for the 7 of us. We asked for extras and so she brought out one of each... I ordered a chicken vegetable soup which the menu stated was served with a cornbread muffin. When the soup came there was no cornbread so I asked for that and upon her return she said it would be an extra $2.50 even though I literally pointed to the menu to show her that was not written anywhere lol The soup was okay, probably Would've been better with the muffin but I wasn't going to argue over it anymore. For my entree I got two southwest chicken tacos. And those were disappointing as well. Packed with a lot but just did not deliver on flavor, and the poblano cremosa salsa I got was pretty bland too. Overall sentiment from other friends was similar- they ordered bowls, burritos etc but found a lot was left to be desired with their dishes. Come payment time, I opted to use cash since the menu stated 3% surcharge for credit. When I gave her a $20, she returned my tab (after processing the others who put a card in) and I explained I had left cash, to which she asked "oh do you want me to give you a 10 and two 5s?" And I explained, No I just want to pay with cash, I only need the change. And then she gave me the wrong amount of change. So all around this spot was definitely a let down. @azfitfoodfun
