Stopped into Hannah's BBQ in Lenoir while passing through and needing a quick bite before heading back to Charlotte. I ordered the pulled pork platter with fries, mac & cheese, and hushpuppies. The pulled pork was tasty.. not life-changing, but definitely solid. The mac & cheese was mid but generously cheesy, and the fries were exactly what you'd expect: simple and edible. The hushpuppies were the standout for me - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and easily the best part of the meal. Overall, it was a good lunch break from the usual chain drive-thrus. Is it the best BBQ in the state? Probably not for me, but if you're in the area, it's absolutely worth the stop. read more

I've never seen brisket served in pieces like this--way larger and shaped differently than any I've ever had. It was sliced thin but was incredibly dry and tough, which is a letdown when you're looking for that tender, smoky flavor. ​I asked if they smoke their own meat and they said yes, but I didn't see a smoker or a wood pile anywhere on the property. Based on how dry the meat was, I'd guess it was cooked in an indoor oven or steamer rather than an actual wood pit. ​The service was fine, but if you know what real brisket is supposed to look and taste like, you're going to be disappointed here. I haven't tried anything but their cheeseburger and I have to say it was really good. This was at the beginning of Dec. 2022. Smothered it with toppings ( Everything + All The Way) so it was huge, messy, and hit the spot. My adult daughter & I split it (with FF) and we were full, happy, and satisfied. My daughter & I are NOT "dainty" eaters, so we can put away some food when it's good. We ATTACKED that burger. It put up a fight with all those toppings, but it didn't have a chance with us!! So if you're not impressed with the bbq, try the burger. It was properly cooked & toppings were fresh. If you're hungry and not afraid of letting anyone see you really enjoy your food, we recommend ALL the toppings!! Or just do take-out & thoroughly enjoy your guilty pleasure. read more

I enjoy finding local gems to support. It's too bad this one didn't pan out. The overall food experience just fell short. I ordered some common staples that I thought would be solid: pulled pork, BBQ chicken and BBQ ribs. The pulled pork was mushy. The BBQ chicken was swimming in sauce. I got the dregs of the rack for BBQ ribs, barely any meat and not even half a rack. Baked beans, vinegar slaw and hush puppies were decent sides. Corn on the cob was mushy and tasteless. Brunswick stew was probably the tastiest thing I ate. After spending $40 for dinner, I don't feel I got my monies worth. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt and say it was an off night. If I go back, it'll be for lunch to test things out. read more

RREAD THIS FIRST! The food is awful. Had both the barbecued beef sandwich and the barbecue pork sandwich. Both sliced. It was simply terrible. Seriously awful. Crazy skimpy portion on the beef, both were stunningly dry and seriously flavorless. Service was very nice and it's a really cute place but the food is barbaric. Always keep in mind any place that says barbecue and doesn't smell like barbecue, isn't barbecue. read more

If I could leave them less than one star I would the f the food here is atrocious and absolutely unseasoned the barbecue is chopped up almost to a paste and doesn't resemble meat they're coleslaw is chopped up too fine and leaves a pool of mayonnaise water no other seasonings just mayonnaise I'm in their hush puppies once again no seasoning just fried cornmeal if you are a fan of bland no seasoned cooking this is the place for you I don't think these people have ever seen a spice rack read more

The bbq itself isn't my favorite...I felt it was a little dry for NC bbq. But it still had good flavor and all the sides were delicious.

I was hoping I could make a change to this review. I was here the other day to get my usual; wings with a side of fries. And I can't being to explain how shocked I was to see no change in price. From local mom and pop shops to the big chains, everyone has gone up in price with their wings. Not here. Not sure if this is supply chain genius or just a way to say thanks to the locals that have always supported, but I'm glad that prices have stayed steady and I really look forward to eating here in the future!! read more

Visiting NC from OK, wanted to experience Carolina style BBQ for comparison. Not sure if this place is typical of all in NC, but even though it was just Okay, I'm still partial to my Okie style. The vinegar based sauces are just not for me. My chopped pork was plentiful and good and the red cole slaw was a different taste but good. I guess we'll have to try another place on our next visit to see if we're missing anything. read more

Sorry guys, but this was not good. All of the meat tasted frozen and old. The corn on the cob was mushy and flavorless, pulled pork has a strange flavor, like sugar was added to the meat its self. The sauce the ribs came in was closer to ketchup than any kind of BBQ sauce. The beans were fine and the potato salad was tasty, but that is not why you go to a bbq joint. read more

Not quite sure how reviewers give Hannah's 5-stars... When I first went to check out the place I figured the best way to get a good feel for their fare would be to order a combo pork plate. Most the meat was thin, and incredibly dry, like it was meant to be soaked in water, like the kind you bring camping. Both times I've been there it was fairly crowded, so I'm still trying to figure out why without asking someone! Second time around I ordered the smoked pork BBQ -- I've always preferred NC-style BBQ over Texas-type that uses a heavy tomato base. Not sure what happened to the 'smoked' part, yet I do believe it was in fact, pork. Beans were soupy, and the slaw, well, let's just say I've never had slaw I didn't like unless it was bought from Food Lion, which is kinda what Hannah's reminded me of. Maybe this coming winter I'll chance trying their Brunswick stew, and hopefully I'll feel inclined to add a star or two. Real nice folks work there, and do a great job making sure your drink's topped off. But I don't go there for drinks... read more

Not in the same league as Bridge's in Shelby or Gary's in China Grove. Hannah's has a loyal following, some folks believing it is the best BBQ anywhere. What people consider to be great BBQ is largely a matter of personal preference. One person may consider one particular style to be great and another doesn't like that style at all. There may not be a right & wrong answer when it comes to the best BBQ. With that I mind great BBQ has to have certain characteristics in my opinion: 1. It cannot be fatty 2. It cannot be dry. It must be moist 3. Needs a great BBQ sauce that is not too sweet. It should be somewhat spicy but not overpowering. The food is good. But they mess up orders a lot. My wife and I have ordered salads here twice in the past two weeks. They messed up hers one time and mine the other. It was dissapointing. Her salad is right off the menu and mine is simple. They just don't pay enough attention to their work before they give it to you. They literally forgot grilled chicken both times...which is the main ingredient in a grilled chicken salad. It's crazy. read more

I love Hannah's BBQ and go there often. One of the best things they do are their smoked chicken wings... I got 10 and when I got them home I immediately wished I had gotten 20!! Also, if you want to take a sandwich home, just ask for your sandwich "broken down" and they'll box it op with the slaw on the side. Great food. read more

A older converted Burger King. Stopped in on the way to mountains. The BBQ was good and seemed to be chopped finer than other places, not a bad thing, I kinda liked it. I really enjoyed the BBQ sauces they offered especially the tomato based one and I usually prefer the vinegar based sauce. I had the BBQ plate and it came with ample BBQ and hush puppies. Also came with two sides (Mac and Cheese and Green beans for me, very good). I love slaw with my BBQ, I mean what's BBQ without the slaw!? I didn't realize the slaw was actually a side? I assumed the slaw was a given to go along with the BBQ and wouldn't be considered a side and was disappointed that I had no slaw but I survived. To the owners of Hannah's IMHO making slaw at a bbq place is like making pickles a side at a burger joint...don't do it!!! Anyway enjoyed it but did notice on the way out that the had the BBQ plate with iced tea for $6.49 as a special. My wife and I got water with a BBQ plate (didn't pay attention to the sigh) so they charged us more even though we didn't get a drink. Looks like the waitress would have pointed out that the BBQ plater comes with the tea for free and less on the special but she didn't so we were charged more for the meal as a stand alone BBQ plate.....not a biggie but just something that a little customer service from the waitress could have pointed out when we ordered or at least made our BBQ plate the same price as the BBQ platter special. So, BBQ was really good, not the best I've had but BBQ is personal as to what you think is the best. This was really good, tendered and flavored. I'd probably stop again but would probably check and see if there is another BBQ place close by to compare on our next trip through. read more

As soon as you walk in, you know this is where the locals go! If you're not from here, and looking for local "grub" you should try this place. It's an extremely casual environment, don't expect the best, you simply won't get it. What will you get? A whole lot of local food! I definitely love the ribs, the baked beans and the pulled pork. But, honestly, I've had much, much better in Lenoir. Especially if you're looking for smoked BBQ. You won't get that here. read more

Was told that it was the local favorite, got the Brunswick Stew (which was good) and the combo platter to go. Couldn't even tell I had ribs in the box, they were falling apart and fatty, covered in so much tomato sauce you couldn't tell they were there. The chicken was dried out and overcooked and covered with their tomato sauce. The pork may have been ok but because of all the sauce ad the other stuff you couldn't taste it. Red slaw was good. We are from CA. We were on our way to visit our friend but didn't want to show up hungry. We saw this place off the highway by her house and figured why not. OMG We were in Heaven in Lenoir NC. Best BBQ we've had in a very long time. We tried to compare it to Memphis BBQ but we couldn't. It's totally different. Loved it and our server. Megan was so sweet. We got the Combo. Everything had its own unique tastes and textures. My husband loved all the sauces. Why don't we have anything like this in Ca?? If we did we'd be 300lbs in a week. I liked the sides but not a huge fan of the BBQ itself. After living around the world and trying BBQ in many states and countries it could be a taste preference. It tasted a bit too vinegary or pickled ish for me. The beans and fries are delicious though! read more

Passing through town on our travels. We had a great experience at lunch. Friendly and attentive staff, great tasting pork, beans, corn dogs, Brunswick stew, sweet tea and lemonade with refills. I have been eating here for almost 20 years! The BBQ is delicious and make sure to order extra slaw! The staff make you feel like family.

This is the bbq I grew up eating, and it's the only place I have to go when I come back to visit. The bbq is spiced well, with a variety of sauce options to apply (if you even need it). They have white slaw, crinkle fries, baked beans, or Brunswick stew to choose as a side--all are solid choices. They also have several options for children, which makes an easy place to take my family to. Can't recommend Hannah's enough. read more

I heard alot of good things about Hannah's from my husband, so of course I wanted to try them. It was obvious to me it is a local favorite, but that was all it seemed to be to me. They say they have the best BBQ but honestly I have experienced much better in other towns. The service is pretty good, they have a very Christian presence in the restaurant so for those of another faith you might not be completely comfortable. It did not bother me, but it might to someone else unfamiliar with them. Its very casual, and old fashion inside as well. For me it was just alright. I went once and dont plan to go again. read more

This is my third favorite bar b q place. For me, #1 is Melvin's in Mt. Pleasant, SC, #2 Bridges in the Shelby area and then it's Hanna's. I've eaten at what I believe to be all of Hanna's locations in the Unifour and have enjoyed them all. Over the past several years I think I've eaten everything on the menu at least once. read more
