This place was a disappointment! We saw plenty of good reviews and were tempted by the extensive menu so we decided to give it a try. Our waitress was nice and friendly but definitely struggling and the food itself was very mediocre. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and sat outside as a group of 7. We started with waters and then a couple trays of chips and salsa. We opted for the house fire roasted and pico options. The chips were a good portion but each one came with maybe one ounce of each sauce...for the 7 of us. We asked for extras and so she brought out one of each... I ordered a chicken vegetable soup which the menu stated was served with a cornbread muffin. When the soup came there was no cornbread so I asked for that and upon her return she said it would be an extra $2.50 even though I literally pointed to the menu to show her that was not written anywhere lol The soup was okay, probably Would've been better with the muffin but I wasn't going to argue over it anymore. For my entree I got two southwest chicken tacos. And those were disappointing as well. Packed with a lot but just did not deliver on flavor, and the poblano cremosa salsa I got was pretty bland too. Overall sentiment from other friends was similar- they ordered bowls, burritos etc but found a lot was left to be desired with their dishes. Come payment time, I opted to use cash since the menu stated 3% surcharge for credit. When I gave her a $20, she returned my tab (after processing the others who put a card in) and I explained I had left cash, to which she asked "oh do you want me to give you a 10 and two 5s?" Man, I slept on this place for years but they have expanded, renovated, updated their menu and added a ton of beers (the new owners own Lost Province Brewery and their beers are heavily represented on the wall of taps.) Weekly specials, margarata slushies, tons of non-alcoholic beverages. I went today for Taco Tuesday for my birthday and the $3 tacos were awesome! The inside is set up with basic chairs and tables and has a separate area for large groups. There's also a decent size outdoor seating area as well. They do gluten free cooking and some serious attention to allergy related strategies with separate cooking surfaces. The Chipotle Chicken sandwich was pretty good with a nice portion of chicken breast. The fries were basic and made with a little crispiness. The server was brand new so she went a bit over the top to serve us but better that than the other way. She kept checking in about every 5 mins or so. Very nice and friendly too. The pace was packed inside and out with a 30 min wait but the process they use for the waiting list was through the Local Toast app so you give them your number and the service texts you when your table is ready. This allowed us to tour the small strip mall while we waited. Overall a good experience and good food. Would certainly recommend it. read more

Our family dined at Coyote Kitchen for a late lunch after visiting Hawksnest. I had researched Yelp prior, and based on the positive reviews and extensive menu I was excited for our family to give it a try. We were greeted promptly and were able to snag a table. I was surprised to see such a large crowd dining that time of day (2:30). But despite the busy flow of customers, service was wonderful, eager to answer questions, and very attentive. We started with the yuca fries. The absolute BEST I have ever had! Fresh, warm, well seasoned, and large portion. Our family of 5 ordered the Sedona bowl, Black & Blue burger, burrito, one of the boats, and the quesadilla, plus sweet fries and regular fries. We all thoroughly enjoyed our entrees! And loved all the fresh salsa options! Prices were also very reasonable! When we are in the area again, we will definitely return to Coyote Kitchen! read more

It breaks my heart to write this review. Why do you guys keep getting worse? I remember coming here back in 2019 when this was the best restaurant in Boone. Now it's just not the same. The chipotle cream cheese used to be amazing but it's so much worse now. And what happened to the shrimp? We still got six but they were tiny, like a quarter of the size they used to be. It honestly felt a little insulting. Everything still tasted fine but it's sad to see the quality and service drop so much. We got our dinner before our waters and at that point I just said no to the other drinks that she obviously hadn't even put in yet. I made eye contact a few times with the server in hopes to get some water. We were seated on the patio and there were pitchers of water out there, I just didn't see any clean cups to pour it myself. Positives: lots of gluten free options for those with dietary restrictions and a wide variety on the menu in general Negatives: Horrible service and I mean horrible. It took forever to get a table for 7 despite lots of empty tables. I understand they might be short on staff, but that's an indicator that they need to hire more people. We got our order taken quickly once we were seated, but they brought half of the orders out and then took another 15-20 minutes for the other orders. I got the ACP and asked for no beans, but they brought it with beans. I sent it back, and it actually got brought out fixed before my friend's burger finally came. Everyone who did get a burger was not impressed, and my husband's was very well done despite ordering it medium rare. I would not recommend going here. read more

Now that Coyote Kitchen has merged with a brewery, they have some added pub style fare with excellent vegan options! (And a remodeled interior!) It's a big improvement all around. Tofu wings are crispy little tofu triangles well-seasoned and perfectly paired with their vegan chipotle ranch (even if you don't love smoky chipotle, because this isn't). I got the blackened spice tofu wings. We shared the yucca fries and sweet plantains too -- all perfect and wonderful. The yucca fries are REALLY special and unique. The cookies and cream trifle was unbelievably vegan. Incredibly rich and smooth -- decadent and meant for sharing despite the small(ish) size. We also got a seasonal mocktail which was lovely. Nice to have a non-alcoholic option. The atmosphere is a clean and laid back restaurant with a large, bright bar. We sat at the bar and service was quick and pleasant. Wow, service has gone downhill. I use to love this place and always look forward going back. I think they got new owners since last time..... i do not know if I will go back after last time. First issue, we came with my dog and the hostess was really rude when she had to sit us outside. Then we waiting over 30 mins not being talked to...... there was another table outside by the waiter would help them and just run away before we could say anything. Eventually a waiter came and took our order. He seemed upset when we ask to order everything in one go instead of just doing drinks first.... since we already waited a long time. Food came quickly but then we never saw our waiter for the check so we could not ask for anything else. Like i wanted more sauce but oh well. Also the portion is small and the price is high...... overall the new owners are the same as lost Providence and that has also gone downhill. Coyote Kitchen and Lost Cantina is as it sounds, it's not trying to be pretentious or fancy. It is a cute place, and we were excited about the variety their menu had to offer. It started off good. We were seated right away and got to place our order promptly, but things went downhill from there. The coyote pups were super dry; even putting lime juice and garlic-lime aioli on them couldn't save them. Both our entrees were supposed to have a mild heat, but there was no heat at all. The salsas we ordered with our meals were to be medium and hot heat levels and again, no heat at all. I went with the Texicali boat and it was way too sweet, and greasy, with no savory flavor at all. My hubby did enjoy his Marley burrito which is why this place gets 3 stars. Our waitress said she was new, and after our orders were put in she just ghosted our section (we could see her outside and in the other indoor area, we had other people bring our meals and our first round of drinks. I ordered a second margarita and it sat at the bar so long my husband finally went up and got it himself, and she admitted she never even put in his order for a second glass of beer. As far as the zero-heat and the cheese overkill, all I can say is we're from Wisconsin and our food isn't known for heat (so you def dropped the ball there) and if I say you put too much cheese on it ya' gotta know it was an egregious amount. read more

I came in from Virginia to visit with my sister and her family for Thanksgiving. They took me all over. On our way to Scottish dance recital, upon their recommendation, we dined at The Coyote Kitchen. Very down home, the meals were delicious and plentiful, and nicely priced. Coyote Kitchen - Large Parties Beware Reservation ignored. Service painfully slow. Staff disengaged. We made a reservation a day in advance for a 20-person lunch after tubing. We were assured this would not be a problem. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was nearly empty--two indoor tables and one outdoor table occupied. Despite that, we were placed in a separate room for large parties and then told we could not push tables together, forcing families to sit apart. This directly contradicted what we were told when booking. From there, the experience steadily declined. Each table was given one menu to share. We then waited nearly 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us to take drink or appetizer orders--during which time the already-seated tables received their food. The staff were polite but inattentive to the point of neglect. No check-ins. No urgency. No explanation. Appetizers arrived about 20 minutes later, but no one stayed to take our lunch orders. That took another 10 minutes. Meanwhile, two couples who arrived after us were seated, served, ate, and finished their meals in an otherwise empty restaurant (13 empty tables). Over an hour after being seated, our lunches finally arrived--just as those other guests were standing up to leave. When I asked for the check, we were ignored again. After 15 more minutes, I had to stand up and track down our server. I requested separate checks for our group. She said "okay" and walked away, never returning. I ultimately paid at the hostess stand and left. The clear message: customer service at Coyote Kitchen appears optional--especially if your party is larger than four. The food may have potential, but it is absolutely not worth the wait, frustration, or feeling of being intentionally disregarded. The poor service completely overshadowed the meal. I will not return, and I do not recommend Coyote Kitchen for large groups, families, or anyone who values timely service and basic attention. read more

The coyote kitchen, a small restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. But that is the only positive thing I have to say about it. The sweet plantain was good, however, the salsa is more of a salad than actual salsa. The sancze burrito was lacking many qualities: little to no flavor, the salsa, again, was more of a salad, and the stake was chewy and flavorless. The flank stake also lacked any flavor and was a hard-to-chew piece of meat. The chicken Sammy had one good quality, the chicken was juicy, however the bread was hard, the fries were floppy, and not a lot of flavor overall. The service was mediocre at best, our waiter constantly late on taking our order and bring drinks. I would not spend my money on this lousy attempt to Mexican food. So glad we found this place while visiting Boone. Always looking for non chain business'. We ate here for dinner on a Sunday and the place was slammed. There was a half hour wait for table or eat at bar and sit immediately. There was no one else at bar and the tender was super nice and helpful. Coyote Kitchen only serves Lost Province beer which is a local microbrew. See attached picture with all featured beers the night we were there. This is a hispanic menu with lots of Cuban influence. I liked what I saw on menu. My wife ordered the Baja which is a bowl with rice base, a couple other items and topped with Grilled Catfish. The portion was good size and my wife enjoyed her meal. I ordered a Quesadilla that had carmelized onions, spinach, red beans and mojo pork with side of my salsa choice. This thing was so big I barely finished it. The flavor was good. First visit. Recommend to us by a friend. It's tucked away in a little cove of a larger shopping center area. Parking ok. Restaurant has a big covered out door area. Two corn-hole boards outside. Inside a small bar; seating to the right of the checkin foyer in front of a refrigerated cake case and to the left (behind the bar). They also had a big separate room that may be good for private parties. They have a lot of high tops. We sat at one and it was comfortable-some aren't. Multple SIGNS SAY: ABSOLUTELY NO SELF-SEATING NO EXCEPTIONS! So don't be sitting down without permission Arrived on Friday around 1:15pm - it looked busy but was nowhere near packed. Many empty tables. Appeared to be too understaffed to seat people right away. Staff seemed stretched too thin and none of them seemed happy to see the next customers. The hostess was mostly away from the front desk busy cleaning tables. She seemed pretty distracted. There were at least 6 parties ahead of us waiting to be seated so we went to the last 2 seats at the bar because the waiting to be seated seating area was packed - also people standing outside (in front of all those empty tables no one is allwed to sit in withouta license ). Only one gal working the bar and she also seemed quite busy; was multi-tasking mixing drinks and serving people in the bar area plus busing those tables and the counter. I got a margarita because they do a house made mix. Wasn't any good. Short glass. Didn't taste much tequila $7. I have yet to have a good margarita in the Carolinas. I'm ruined by Texas margs. Imma gonna quit ordering them here. I give up. Stick with the beer. I always wonder about the alcohol being watered down when you get a short glass and don't taster a drop of booze. I only saw 3 other servers - younger kids. 2 of 3 had gas in their tanks and were moving at a good pace but the other one needed to go home, take a bath, and go back to her parents basement and play her video games. It looked like it was excruciatingly painful for her to actually be there "working" [in low gear]. Once we got a table it took awhile but our server Gavin was pretty thorough. He wrote everything down. He was personable and as attentive as he could be considering his workload. Orders arrive 100% correct. Food came out in a reasonable time. Slacker-girl brought fries out as appetizer but didn't bring plates and started to walk away. Seems to be a common issue in this neck of the woods. I don't get it, but we've learned to hurry up and beg for plates. She got them for us right away. I had a nacho salad- no protein (just wasn't in the mood). I had warm sweet plantains with it - delicious & generous side order $5. The greens were very nice. The mango vinaigrette was more like mango puree. Not flavorful and i didn't taste any vinegar - not getting that next time. Don't recommend it. The grilled red pepper & onions were on the minimal side. Wayyyy too many tortilla chips. They are pretty bland chips BTW. Not a high grade chip (again I think we're ruined from living in Texas so long and having legit chips & salsa). Speaking of salsa - all are served in tiny cups - stingy!!!! You gotta pay if you want more. Very weird concept to people who don't live here. This is a condiment for gawd sakes. Ketchup also came in a small tin cup. No up-charge for more ketchup. Salsa $1 a cup. Salad Dressing comes in a slightly bigger cup. Just enough. You want more you gotta pay. We shared the combo fries. Delicious. The regular herb ranch was pretty salty - it seems like a lot of places here in the Carolinas make it too salty like that. Trying the Chipotle next instead of the herb. Hubby had the wings with dry rub - they were done just right. House dry rub was a little heavy. We'd get them again but try a different topping next time. Prices not bad. Gender neutral bathrooms. The seat was down (thank gawd). Overall - it was ok - need to try some different items, but we probably wouldn't come back because of the long wait times and understaffing & no warm and fuzzy feeling being there.
