Their bartenders are, to a person, superlative. Haley, Lexi, and Emily (still in-training, though she has more-than-ample experience) were all professional and delightful this Boonerang weekend. If only the establishment would spring for cable during the World Cup, my experience of The Social as a "sports bar" would've been unparalleled compared to the other pretenders who decided the U.S. Open was the only "sport" worth airing. If I'd only come for wings and such, I'd've had no notes. But guys, your salads are culinarily (and decidedly) confused. My burrata was delivered atop a spiral of beefsteak wedges, nestled among wild greens, with zero seasoning, which is a hate crime when it comes to tomatoes; golden beets would've elevated it considerably, normally without much consideration... however. I'd thankfully chosen to add salmon, which was cooked to perfection, saving the dish. Haley suggested salt and pepper, which was a clutch move. Given the pleasant part of my previous experience, the salmon salad I ordered two nights later was even more discombobulated. Emily asked what kind of dressing I'd prefer, and I managed to avoid recoiling from the options provided: bleu cheese, ranch, thousand island... and then, finally, a cilantro-lime vinaigrette - the only suitable option. Instead of a deep plate, this was served essentially as a "bowl" that one might receive from delivery, only in a ceramic vessel. "Crispy" garbanzo beans (?!) were in one section of the plate, worse green olives than came with my martinis in another, four sad cucumber slices and pickled red onions in yet another, and in the saddest section, under-cooked yellow beets - half-run through a mandoline to make matchsticks, only still-connected at one end into slices to make Hell-deemed beet sporks. Again, all atop mixed greens, which are commonly available, even at Wal-Mart. I didn't deign to more than glance at my neighbors' plates, for fear I'd take even more offense, but the people making food at The Social are either under-staffed or inexperienced, as being unserious would likely wash out if anyone were to pay attention. Regardless, management is to blame for such disappointing experiences, and not their cooks, and certainly not their bartenders. Do better by Boone, and stop reinforcing the notion that standards are somehow lower in the High Country. Don't make me go to Macado's when I visit again next year. read more

I wish I could give more stars. We were in town for our son's track meet which happened to fall on my husband's birthday. We wanted a nice place to eat that was casual because we were in track clothes. Everyone was super friendly, from the call about my reservation to the hostesses who greeted us and especially, Ethan, our server. I'm the kind of person who looks at the menu online before I go anywhere and already have in mind what I want. Shrimp burger. Need I say more? I had mine without the tomato and onion. Think crab cake but with shrimp. I assumed (and we know what that gets you) the shrimp would be minced and unrecognizable. Nope! There were like whole shrimp in this "burger"! The flavor was amazing. I think the lemon aioli added such a richness. I tried not to eat all of the amazing fries but the fries won. If you're staying at the Inn and assuming this is "just hotel food," let me stop you right there. The Social is in its own league -- inventive, bright, playful cooking that honestly surprised us in the best way. This is the kind of meal you talk about afterward. We started with a little parade of small plates, and every single one hit. The okra crisps -- dressed with chaat masala and lime , were the undeniable star. I'm not kidding when I say they are one of the best bites I've had in a long time. Light, crisp, tangy, warm spice, bright citrus. Whoever dreamed these up deserves a raise. They're addictive in a way okra rarely gets to be!! The Korean corn dog was such a fun dish, super crispy with that sesame-panko crust and the oozy Gruyere. Both sauces were perfect with it, one creamy, one spicy, and together it was just ridiculous. Comfort food with a wink. And it's a Nathan's Hot dog. The best. The crab bisque was rich, silky, and full of flavor without being heavy. Warm, cozy, absolutely delicious. The roasted carrots were another surprise -- smoky, sweet, beautifully charred, sitting on this creamy feta base that tied everything together. And then came the salads, which honestly could go head-to-head with any "fancy" restaurant -- and win. I had the salmon salad, and it was perfection. Fresh herbs, creamy dill cheese, olives, the golden beets, the chimichurri on the salmon -- everything worked. It felt vibrant and generous and satisfying. My husband had the Asian salad, and he kept saying it might be the best salad he has ever had. The smoky skewered shrimp, the cashews, the bright herbs, the soy-mirin egg (he didn't eat it. I did) it was layered and balanced and just so good. The whole experience was thoughtful, delicious, and honestly impressive. This is not "typical hotel food" -- not even close. I really liked the Social on Main. Upon arrival to Boone, we did a bit of shopping and bar hopping and this was one of the first on our list. Our group of 4 sat at the bar. We did a round of M&M Shots, and I ordered a white wine. The food menu looked good, and it seems like a nice spot to grab a meal or a drink. This is the sister restaurant of the Local down the street, and you can tell they have the vibes figured out. Our bartender Gabby was so nice and attentive. What a fantastic new addition to Boone! We went there for lunch a few weeks ago and had a great time. The restaurant has a really inviting feel - lots of tables, a bar, plus a few areas with couches. The service was excellent. Our waiter Matthew was helpful, attentive and an absolute sweetheart. The food was very tasty, I loved the corn ribs and the chicken sandwich!! They should add Toum as dip to order, it was SOOOOO GOOD. A lot of the menu had fun creative twists on familiar staples. I didn't get a cocktail, but I saw some brought to other tables and they looked really lovely. They bring your receipt in a book, which is a really cute detail. Ambiance was beautiful! The restaurant had a very unique and lovely aesthetic. Our food was overall good. I think the restaurant is still learning their ropes. While it presents itself as an upscale restaurant, the menu has many finger foods which didn't quite match the atmosphere for me. That said, the service was outstanding! Don't skip the pickled veggies on the plate as they pair very nice with the fried chicken. For the meal, I had the A BLT and the fries with lime salt. A BLT with avocado on a foccocia. My wife and I made last minute dinner reservations for a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised with an 8:15 spot. When we arrived a few minutes early we were promptly seated! We had great service without it feeling overbearing, good explanation of items on the menu, and the food itself was delicious. We were particularly wowed by the fried chicken appetizer, collard greens side, and the shrimp in the mixed platter entree. The chocolate ganache dessert was also the perfect way to end a meal. The setting reminded me of a nice DC or urban/hip restaurant, though the backdrop was a small NC mountain town. Prices are more than reasonable and we hope to be back when we're next in the area. The most underwhelming meal I've had in years. we came in as a party of six with reservations for 4:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. we were seated and met our server which was the only highlight of the meal. nVery nice young man. I ordered the fried chicken app. it came relatively quickly. the chicken was under seasoned. the "Aji Verde sauce" was a poor excuse for a Peruvian pepper sauce. it truly tasted as if the blended some green bell pepper with cream and stopped adding any additional seasoning. the picked cucumber slices were soggy and limp. I ordered the Beef Wllingtonish entree. yes it was "ish." it was one dry short rib sitting on top of a teaspoon of Duxelle on top of a puff pastry square. Really? One boneless short rib? It was accompanied by a gloppy brown sauce and a few sliced mushrooms. the puff pastry ends were burn. completely disappointed. won't be back. read more
