    Pulled pork platter.

We had lunch here on a Saturday and both the food and service were really enjoyable. Our server, Christina, was great and made sure we were enjoying our meal and had refills, etc. We all loved the crispy corn nuggets for an appetizer. Others in my group ordered the pulled pork plate and pulled pork sandwich; both had sweet potato fries and bbq coleslaw and one also had hush puppies. I ordered the pork belly plate with regular coleslaw, cornbread and mac & cheese. All of us enjoyed our pork. The other two liked the smoky flavor of the pork and the pieces of bark, and I loved the "crispy" pork belly (not mushy, but not hard to bite into or chewy). The mac & cheese and sweet potato fries were excellent sides. The cornbread and coleslaws were the only lackluster points which could have used more flavor. We would definitely come back to Woodlands BBQ.

At this point Woodlands barbecue is an institution! They were there when I attended Appalachian State University 30 years ago and they're still there. Actually, they were already very well known to the students and locals in the area even before that. Their barbecue is as good as anybody's with a fantastic smoke flavor that's to die for! There smoked wings are awesome!l and they still do it the old-school way! It's the whole wing including the tip! It's the only place I know of that you can still get them that way. Cheers!

Stopped by to get some Brisket and sides. Brisket is so dry and tough. Can't even cut with a fork. The sides were $3.50 and they barely put any in the containers. Definitely a waste with the prices. Food is too expensive to not be done right. We will not be visiting this location again.

Best BBQ in the area! Operating through COVID and doing it well. This place is organized and speedy. You can tell everyone who works there cares about their job and customers. Tables were set up for social distancing, the servers wore masks, they had hand sanitizer everywhere, barriers protected both staff and customers while checking out, etc. We had a small wait, but, once inside, we're served quickly and the food was great. I wish I hadn't split a BBQ plate with my husband because it left me wanting more!! We had ribs, pulled pork, fried okra... everything was delicious. Meat was tender and smoky. Pretty sure they make their own BBQ sauces too. I ended up mixing them all onto my plate, hahaha. We had a blackberry cobbler with ice cream for dessert and my husband was super happy. Honestly, if you're considering going here, just do it. It was worth the wait!

Woodlands was a great local lunch spot for us. Reasonably priced and good food. Very pleased with side options. Kid approved as well!

The Pedalin' Pig is a must if your looking for tender and flavorful BBQ. All meats are smoked on site. The sides are flavorful and good sized. The ribs were juicy, tender and fall off the bone with a nice bark on the outside. The service is always prompt and very friendly. The decor is what you would expect for a rustic southern BBQ restaurant. Highly recommend this g your in the area of Boone or Blowing Rock NC

I really thought this place was okay, not the most spectacular barbeque that I have ever eaten, but good. We ordered the Pig Out to share amongst the two of us. That portion size was more than enough. We probably could have added a third person. It comes with two breads -- choose corn bread or hush puppies. Because I like variety, I asked for a split of both. I must admit that I don't normally like hush puppies but I do like Woodlands'. We also get four sides. I wanted the collard greens and fried okra. The other sides were sweet potato fries and cole slaw. The sampler contained ribs, pulled pork, sausage, and turkey. The ribs were not fall off the bone type of ribs so was disappointed there. Pulled pork was good but just a tad dry. I would have liked more options in the bbq sauce. Only two options in ketchup bottles on the table - spicy and not. I definitely needed to add bbq sauce to the pulled pork. The turkey was not your fresh, out of the oven Thanksgiving slice but more like a store bought slice of deli. It was still good tasting. Sausages were fine as well. The wait staff all looked like college students but we got excellent service in this non-pretentious establishment. It almost felt like a diner with the old diner-like chairs from the 50's.

Food was very good, smoked ribs and burger was mouth watering, brisket tacos was loaded up with tomato, and cheese. Service was great, we were in the Blowing Rock, NC location, we will be back again.

The Turkey was cooked well and the collard greens were delicious! But they gave me cornbread instead of hush puppies and it was not good, tasted like Lawry's or something like it, very salty. The potato salad was drenched in sauce. The pulled pork was the greasiest we have ever had. The fries were generic, undercooked and flavorless frozen fries. The sauce was spilled in the bag before I got to the car. Which meant not only less sauce, but the bottom of the container was soaked in sauce which meant we had to leave the dish in the bag while eating in the car. The hostesses were nice though

    Front door ordering to go...
    Hoyman L.

We came to this establishment since we did see the outside order to go table and a few cars parked by the front door. Thinking it should be pretty good since it was 3pm and there were people still eating there. We were hungry hungry.... so we Ordered "The Hog" which includes 2 ribs, 2 wings, chopped pulled pork, 3 sides (we got collard greens, corn on the cob and came with 4 hush puppies and butter) $21 Another lady ordered to go about 5 min after us, but she got her order in 10 min. We waited TWENTY FIVE minutes for our order. Open the bag and first sign of trouble... no utensils or napkins. How do you eat BBQ with no napkins???????? Okay time to dig in. Teared at the ribs with hot sauce that was not the least bit hot. On top of that, the ribs were not even warm to the touch. It was probably room temperature at best and the end pieces they gave were so hard. When your BBQ meat isn't tender, you gotta wonder. Pork was good. It had good taste, but no sauce even though they mentioned they would put sauce on the side for us. Again though, cold. Collards were okay. Corn on the cob was cold. What's going on with food safety? All in all.... experience was Meh! Easily can get BBQ anywhere else and it'd be easily better. Go for Carolina BBQ or Old Hampton.

We found parking on a side street near Blowing Rock Brewing, so decided to enjoy a drink and get some lunch. We were seated quickly, near a heater, which was nice to help us warm up after being on the mountain. A waiter came by with menus to take our order. We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Food and drink were both good and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Hidden Gem in Blowing Rock…read more After spending the morning at Grandfather Mountain, I took the scenic route into Blowing Rock and stumbled onto an absolute gem. Hellbender Bed & Beverage and Bistro Roca share the same space now, and the result is one of the most charming spots I've found in the High Country. The outdoor patio was beautiful, with flowers everywhere, cozy seating areas, fire pits, and plenty of dogs lounging alongside their owners. The gravel patio was a little uneven, so my table had a slight tilt, but honestly, the atmosphere more than made up for it. I started with a glass of Crémant de Loire. Crisp, cold, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted after a morning of mountain exploring. For lunch, I ordered the Moules Frites. The mussels arrived swimming in a rich, flavorful broth with basil and sun-dried tomatoes, alongside a generous pile of perfectly cooked fries. The combination with the sparkling wine was fantastic. I cleaned the plate. The service was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. My only suggestion is a little more attention to the details. If you're serving mussels, a spoon is almost essential for enjoying that incredible broth. A smaller seafood fork would also make fishing out the mussels easier. Minor things, but details that can elevate a great meal into an exceptional one. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. My entrée and glass of bubbles came in around $23, which felt like a great value considering the quality, portion size, and setting. I skipped dessert only because I was determined to finish every last fry, then headed into town to walk off lunch and hunt for something sweet. If I return--and I absolutely would--I might even stay at the inn. The cottages looked adorable, and the whole property felt warm and inviting. Just a short walk from downtown Blowing Rock, this place delivers on atmosphere, food, and mountain-town charm. Five stars for the food. Four stars for service. Five stars overall because I'd happily come back tomorrow. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. Get out there and stuff your face.
