Hellbender Bed and Beverage is such a charming find in Blowing Rock! The space is cozy and cute, with décor that feels polished and welcoming. Don't let the quaint outside fool you -- the menu is more upscale than expected. We had the chicken pot pie and smash burger, both delicious, and the cocktails were good-- my partner had the jalapeño margarita and loved it. Service was friendly, and the whole vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy. A great spot to add to your list if you're in town.

Adult Grilled Cheese

Lovely staff. Charming interior with slanted floors and a huge outdoor patio. I loved the adult grilled cheese-a veggie filled healthy version. Also the chicken chopped salad was huge and tasty. I would definitely come back here for a meal!

Felix the Cat was bartending, and made for a great conversationalist! The burger was delicious and not ordinary by any means. The atmosphere is historic, quaint and cozy!! I highly recommend stopping at Hellbender on your trip to Blowing Rock.

We escaped to blowing rock for a Sunday-Monday adventure. It was the whole family: me, the husband, baby , and dog. Yelp steered me to the Hellbender with the positive reviews! We stayed in room 6 as it was dog friendly. It's located upstairs at the end of the hall. The room in itself was great: large comfortable bed, up to date, and nice finishes like Keurig coffee. The bathroom had a nice tall shower and skylights. We all slept well which is not an easy task for this group. The room was dark and quiet at night time which was a major win! There is a parking lot with room for about 6 cars.. a big plus in this crowded town. We really enjoyed our complimentary smoothies- served after 8am. I made the reservation knowing biscuits weren't served on Monday.. bummed about that.. but will happily come back in another day to try. Great location. On a quiet side street about 3 minutes walking time to Main Street. Really friendly staff. Easy check in and check out- we were able to check in early which was a huge help! The only thing I could think of to improve our trip would be to have windows in the room that open. My husband and I tried to open windows to get fresh air after returning from a wet hike. We could not open the windows so the room did smell a little damp after some time.

Duck BLT

This restaurant is very convenient to downtown Blowing Rock but has the advantage of not being right in the midst of all the crowd. The staff were friendly and dogs are welcome outside. The food was not very good, but also delivered promptly. We had the duck blt, chicken sandwich, and the trout. Everything was very good. I did think the breading on the chicken seemed a bit to course for the tenderness of the chicken. We did enjoy this restaurant and will be returning.

1/4 lb Cheese Burger

Popped in for a quick lunch a few weeks ago. (Pre hurricane Helene, so I hope they are back up and running!) We were seated immediately. Perfect outdoor patio with some sun and shade. I have always loved that this town goes big on landscaping and flowers! It's just a beautiful place to be. The vibe and service were great. They let us have our dog on the patio too, I had the fried chicken salad; a nice large salad with blue cheese, bacon, and edamame. Pretty tasty with fresh ingredients, but I did think it needed a more flavorful dressing and more cheese. Chicken was nice and crunchy. Husben shared some of his burger and to me it was a pretty good, your average burger and fries. He was unimpressed, but I think we will come back and try some other items like the fried brussel sprouts and chicken sandwich ! This is also a great place to just pop in for a drink.

I've been staring here since I was a kid + this new concept is great! I started coming when it was Crippens, then New Public House and most recently when it changed to Hellbender. This B&B caters towards outdoor enthusiasts that are visiting the beautiful mountains for a getaway! The rooms are updated and modern but with a touch of a "camping" feel but in doors. Beds are super comfortable and the house stays pretty quiet throughout the evening. For breakfast, you can choose from their list of delicious smoothies which were perfect to have right before our hike! I got the berry assortment and it's delicious. For lunch, we came back and both got burgers and sweet potatoes fries and we ate every last bite. Overall, this is a great place to stay both for the ambiance, price, and comfort!

Best chicken egg biscuit sandwich in all of the USA. It's amazing. I've been talking this place up for the last year and finally took my bf. He now confirms that this is the best in the country

Yummy Carolina burger with chili and fries

My husband and I visited Hellbender for a late lunch while visiting Blowing Rock. We opted for their Thursday "Locals" menu, including a sandwich, a side, and either a glass of wine or beer for $12 (fries are $1 extra). Having visited the prior New Public House many times before, we were curious as to what might have changed under this new ownership/name. The interior was exactly as we remembered. The hostess told us to find a seat, and to order and pay via QR code on each table. As we were attempting to get a good signal to place the order (they use Toast Tab), she came in and said they were having issues with the service, and took the order for us. We remembered having difficulty getting any internet service in this building before, and were glad she was so accommodating. I got the smash burger with chips, and my husband got the Carolina burger with fries. Both burgers were amazing. I haven't had a burger on a bun in over a year due to watching my carbs, and this one was worth the wait, and MOST definitely carb-worthy. Both burgers had double patties, with mine having cheese and a delicious sauce, and his having chili in place of cheese. The brioche buns were soft, and perfect - not too filling. The chips were served with a tasty dipping sauce. It might have been ranch or something else. The fries came with ketchup. We dipped both the chips and fries in the sauce, it was that good! Both our server and the chef came to check on us while we were there. We were very pleased with everything, and will definitely return!

Cozy fire pits, good service, great drinks, good food! Ramen was good but could use less ginger and more pork broth.

This is a very new addition to Blowing Rock, built in 2024. And it shows, the place is spotless, modern and bright. We enjoyed an amazing evening at the bar and restaurant (separate review). Our room was immaculate, and again a very modern and sleek style. Beds and pillows were very comfortable, not a single complaint about the room or the cleanliness. And the views facing downtown Blowing Rock from the patio with the mountains in the background was superb. We enjoyed morning coffees and afternoon happy hours on this comfy patio overlooking the heart of Main St in downtown Blowing Rock. A pleasant surprise was the continental style breakfast which is included with the stay. A kicked up version with better food from what you'd expect at a Hampton Inn or comparable hotel. The room was very small-- two beds, bathroom, mini fridge, desk, and tv-- but that was okay since we didn't really spend any time other than sleeping and showering there. Someone came and emptied our trash, made our beds, and gave us fresh towels every day. Everything seemed nice and clean, zero complaints. Outside they have other little cabins and a fire pit with multiple chairs and maybe one picnic table. Really cute, well kept area! There were also several benches outside of the rooms where guest can sit and enjoy the weather, talk to each other, play music, etc. We frequently saw a lady outside her cabin painting the garden scenery. Blowing Rock seems to gather an older crowd, so being in our 20s and heavily tattooed, you get some looks. However, the staff at the inn was very friendly and enjoyed talking to our infant daughter. Not sure when we'd be back to visit, but I'd stay here again!

Literally parked the car and walked everywhere we went in Blowing Rock for meals and shopping. With parking spaces at a premium in this small popular mountain town the location is a huge selling point. As for the motel itself, as mentioned it is retro with a rustic roadside 1960s feel. That doesn't bother me and in fact I rather like it for mountain destinations. The furnishing and bedding is fine: the carpet however is worn out and stained and probably has a lot to do with the unpleasant dank smell of the room. There is a Keurig and small fridge but no microwave. TV service is only the 3 basic national channels and maybe 4 other lesser stations. WiFi signal was fine. Walls are thin. The hot water shows up but only after a long time of waiting for it. The bathroom itself is more updated with newer tile and fixtures.

The rooms are generally comfortable, though might be missing an amenity or two. Rooms have Keurigs, for example, but don't include microwaves. The pillows aren't great either. CHETOLA RESORT, BLOWING ROCK: THE GOOD, BAD & UGLY…read more So many difficulties with these people including the front desk staff & manager. 1. First, let me state that CHETOLA, on the outside exterior, is a beautiful place, landscaping, manicured grounds, small lake; just a special place. Really nice appearance. Then, you go inside: 2. After check-in, front desk staff immediately overcharged my AMEX by $1,132.38 for a 3-night stay, even after I had paid a deposit of ~$400 weeks before. This overcharge in itself was as much as my initial 3-night room stay as quoted by CHETOLA. This made my nightly room cost almost $800/night for a standard 2 Bdrm hotel room. So, I spent almost an hour the next day showing them how absurd and stupid that charge was. Finally, she admitted their mistake and, of course, blamed it on the "System" instead of herself. A Credit was finally issued. So, I waste an hour of vacation time being harassed by CHETOLA RESORT as to my final room charge. 3. Then, the 1st night my wife is showering in 3"-4" of waste bath water because the drain backs up. And, of course I face the same filthy waste water when I shower the next morning. So, waste time again and go to the front desk and ask for maintenance to unplug shower drain. And their reply is always, "oh yes sir, our folks will unplug that today, no problem." (REALLY??). 4. And that 1st morning, my wife cannot even put her makeup on at the small desk provided in the room. Unbelievable, because there is NO LIGHT anywhere on that side of the room. There should be either a wall light or a table lamp at the desk area, where people work, read, makeup, etc. So, my wife has to sit at the balcony to do makeup. 5. Speaking of NO LIGHTS on that side of room, the coffee maker was in such a dark location, again no light. You could hardly see where the water is poured into maker. Wife had to get out her small flashlight so we could see adequately. It is obvious that CHETOLA has deliberately cut costs everywhere they can, even at the inconvenience of their guests. DAMN RIDICULOUS. 6. At 2nd night, guess what is happening in the shower?? Wife is showering once again in 3"-4" of bath wastewater. Obviously, no one did a damn thing that day to unplug the shower drain. No one checked on it, no one called to see if everything OK, NOTHING from CHETOLA staff or management. 7. Next morning again to the front desk and request a manager to solve the problem. Out comes "Warren" and I barely start to explain the problem and lack of attention to it by the maintenance dept when he begins to interrupt my conversation. Only to state what a great maintenance staff they have and it will be unplugged. He seemed like an automatic robot only saying what they apparently teach these people to say when they know they have a problem, but won't admit it to the guest. He continually interrupted us to state his prepared bull____. 8. I told him how damn RIDICULOUS & DISTURBING it was that my wife & I are spending a lot of vacation time trying to correct their own damn problems INTERNALLY that are directly affecting us during this stay. Overcharging fiasco, no maintenance for 2 days while we wash in dirty waste water. Not even mentioning the lack of adequate lighting in the room. He was almost rude in the way he kept interrupting our problems and he would not entertain anything that would at least show they wanted to makeup for their internal problems and the difficulty it was making for our lost vacation time. 9. As stated earlier, it is a beautiful resort on the outside exterior, but internally it is a DAMN JOKE and highly DISRESPECTFUL to their guests. At least in our case it was. "Warren" should be sent back to Hotel 101 school and taught how to listen and help guests who are dismissed by his manners (or lack thereof) and train him and the front desk staff who are inadequately prepared in Guest Relations.
