Great bar and grill in the heart of downtown Banner Elk. TVs all over, a menu with variety, friendly staff and tasty drinks. Went on a Monday which is their wing day and it was packed. Plenty of seating inside and out, with a really nice outdoor covered patio. Ordered some wings, an enormous fish n chips plate, and a few cold ones to wash it all down with. The wings were a bit underwhelming. I ordered them first and they came out 30 seconds later. They were most likely sitting there in the kitchen instead of made to order especially on a wing night. It showed since they were a bit chewy and not hot and fresh. Everything else was amazing. The fish n chips knocked it out of the park! I wasn't planning on ordering it, but after the 3rd plate of it went by I couldn't resist. 2 huge fresh, hot and crispy fish on top of their homemade chips. The fish was outstanding. Perfectly fried with that outer crisp and inner tenderness. I will have a hard time ordering anything else here. If you haven't had it here, get it for sure. Top shelf martini to start this Friday night. And weekend getaway! I had the pomegranate martini which was a perfect start to the evening just a little sweet. We started with the potato skins and pub chips. The pub chips are home made and is a must. The potato skins were good hot from the oven. Maybe they need more bacon. For dinner I had the JD bourbon burger. Which was filling! And messy to eat but so worth it. My side I tried the broccoli salad. A little too salty for me. My husband got the burger with bacon and the fries he said the fries needed to be cooked more. But overall very good. For dessert we took the cheesecake to go. A great late night treat! I've been a fixture at the tavern for about 5 months. The food and service were always great. I have always over tipped. Usually 50%. often more. Today I made the mistake of complaining that a take out order had taken a long time. I was told I was no longer welcome there. It's a great place to go if you never complain. read more

I don't know what's happened here but it's not good. The place is dirty, the bathrooms are bad, and we had flies circling our table the whole time we were there. When I say dirty I mean there was food and used utensils on the floor and there were puddles in various places around the dining room. And our table had clearly been cleaned with an already dirty rag! I know it's a Tavern not a fancy restaurant but this is unnecessary and unacceptable. Staff is friendly enough, food's ok but I'm sorry to say it doesn't make up for the lack of cleanliness. I shudder to think what the kitchen may look like. read more

I was very reluctant to go here as I've had negative experiences at the location in blowing rock. The other location just wasn't clean or very welcoming and seemed mismanaged. The banner elk location really out preformed the other spot. Burgers were hot and fresh. Great service and a good relaxed atmosphere to wind down after a day of activities. Plus my son's high chair wasn't absolutely filthy like the other location, and tables weren't sticky or grimy! Maybe my view is just skewed because of the other town tavern but I thought this was an overall great place to grab a reasonably priced burger and fries. read more

We came early for lunch hoping to beat the crowds. It worked. We were seated right away and ordered burgers with fries. I got the Bourbon glazed burger with caramelized onions and jalapeño peppers. It was so juicy and flavorful. My husband got the traditional cheeseburger with cheddar cheese. The fries were coated in something to make them crispier, not my favorite but I still ate them. I prefer fries without added stuff. TV's everywhere so I imagine this is a fun gathering place for game days. The windows are actually garage doors so on warm days they open, and in the middle of winter they close with heaters to make it cozy. They have a full bar and conversation cards at every table to help you connect. What a nice addition to Banner Elk. read more

We were told that Town Tavern was relatively new. The outside was inviting and well lit. When we first walked in and looked for seating, we walked out onto the patio. The noise level was extremely high, so we came back and sat at a booth inside. It was still loud, but we could carry on a conversation. Our server, Leslie, was very nice. We ordered wings, a fried bologna sandwich, a burger, and a chicken Philly wrap. My husband said the wings were good. Our friend enjoyed his Philly wrap. My other friend ordered a burger cooked medium. It arrived well done, so she had to send it back. I enjoyed my sandwich. Our biggest issues were the filthy floors. There were straw wrappers, food and debris everywhere. I have never seen such dirty floors in a restaurant. The ladies room was clean. The men's room was dirty. The other issue is the lack of healthy sides or even grilled chicken or steak. Our friend tried the broccoli salad, but it tasted mostly of mayonnaise and cheese. read more

We rode the alpine slide and stopped to grab dinner to bring back to our cabin. When I placed the order it said it'd be ready at 7:00. Perfect. Enough time for us to get done with our rides. We picked it up at about 6:50 ish and it was COLD! We all got chicken- 2 chicken tenders and one boneless. I don't care for places that say a time, you pick up early and it's cold. So.... I had a salad. A buffalo chicken salad to be exact with mild sauce. It is huge. Probably three people could share it so that's definitely a positive. But! Like for the amount of lettuce and whatnot it could use more texture. More meat. I ate all the chicken and it still was a pile of just straight lettuce. The cheese sticks were straight up Farm Rich impostors tossed in the microwave. The burgers came without any flavor at all. Not even a polite sprinkle of salt or pepper stopped by to help. The fish sandwich somehow made Captain D's seem like a fine dining seafood experience. The entire meal was a disaster from start to finish. The only good part was our waitress. She was incredibly sweet and efficient and honestly deserved hazard pay for delivering that food with a straight face. Banner Elk could do better. Ally was a phenomenal waitress even tho she was constantly busy she still took time to make sure me and my wife were fully taken care of.

The outside is charming and quaint and it's convenient to strolling around downtown Blowing Rock. However, inside is so loud you can't even hear the person across from you, the air was off so it was really stuffy, and the majority of seating seemed to be those tall chairs made especially for those over 6 feet. Anyone under that, prepare to enjoy sciatica. My Reuben sandwich was one of the best I've had, however the onion rings and especially my son's fish sandwich were not even close to being cooked through. We would have told the server, but she was so overwhelmed with customers that we hardly saw her, so we chose to take the food back to where we're staying and finish cooking it. read more

One thing to note is the majority of chairs are high chairs so we had to wait a longer time for more accessible seating to become available, which was fine since we weren't in a rush. Also, the noise level is fairly high but again that wasn't a big deal for us just something to note if that isn't the atmosphere you're looking for. The service and drinks were amazing! The bartender, Lexi, was super helpful with knowledge of the drink and food menus. I usually am not a martini kind of girl, so when it happened to be Tini Tuesday when I went, I figured, why not? I got the raspberry lemon drop as per Lexi's recommendation, and it was exactly what I was hoping for! I also got the buffalo chicken dip for an appetizer. However, I probably wouldn't get it again simply because it wasn't really up my alley. I am also a bit of a snob when it comes to my buffalo chicken dip preferences. All in all, it has a laid-back atmosphere with plenty of different seating options, and the outdoor seating will be so nice in the summer! There is a wide range of martini/ drink options and decent food. I will definitely have to try a few different apps and even stay for a meal. We stayed in Eagles Nest for 6 days and ordered door dash from Town Tavern twice. The food was great and the service was awesome. On the 2nd order, our order was accidentally delivered to another location. Usually, when I think of tavern food, I think of like a miller's ale house, which we have in orlando, and it's just like, ehhh. I walked in with my family, not expecting much, but BOY, I WAS WRONG! Everything from their drinks to scratch made food was DELICIOUS! Always get cheese sauce on the tator tots! I got the crab cake sandwhich, and it was a massive crab cake. My 2 year old loved their grilled cheese and ate that up. Their French onion soup was so flavorful. The drinks are strong but so yummy, and I'm someone who hardly drinks half a seltzer. The server was extremely attentive and sweet and honest. He made great recommendations. We sat outside, the weather was perfect. I loved the ambiance of the casual vibe . Even better?
