This restaurant we have meet up another Yelp couple for dinner. It is great place in the mountain to eat. They have night time entertainment with local live music. Parking is at the back of plaza. There three restaurants own by same person including this restaurant. Their menu is attractive. We also find out their Thursday night special. They have the prime rib special a deal. The cost is a steal. The prime rib is roasted with a thick cut. It come with sautéed veggies and mash potatoes. The meat is tender and juicy. Very good piece of steak. I like the rolls with great butter. The last local ale taste very good. This restaurant is actually located at busy Banner Elks. The service is good. The close out with payments is a bit slow. Otherwise they are good. Love to visit them if I vacation here again. read more

We grabbed some drinks from the bar after coming back from a day of skiing! Service was very friendly and the Martinis were good! We wanted to stay out longer, and the bartenders were helpful telling us where to head to next after they closed. read more

I don't know about any other night, but for Thursday prime night, it's 5 stars for me. No way can you beat this $13.99 special. The nice size serving of prime rib was juicy and flavorful, the accompanying mashed potatoes were delicous, and the zucchini and carrots were done aldente. We were served warm garlic knots after we ordered. The service was good, and our water were filled regularly. There were four local beers on tap. We're finishing up a great dinner here and could not recommend this place more. The sports bar (The Barra) is connected to Sorrentos Italian so they share a menu. The food: My husband and I shared the Vodka Pasta with chicken and STILL had leftovers to bring hope so its safe to say that portion sizes here are large and justify the prices. Service: Will is amazing! Extremely attentive and friendly. He is the epitome of what a server should be! The drinks: we both had local wines. I had the Banner Elk white and it was great! My husband had the local cabernet and he also loved it. We also tried the port wine for dessert and loved it- perfectly sweet. The atmosphere: we sat in the sports bar at a high top to be able to watch the games and we loved it! They have a karaoke room, but its separate so if thats not your thing you won't hear it. Dessert: Will talked us into the tiramisu with the accompanying port wine and it did not disappoint! Seriously, split dinner and save some room for it! During our trip to Banner Elk, we visited The Barra 3x, so I feel a review is in order. Food, management, and prices earn this place a solid 4 stars. Some of the confusion we experienced took this place down a notch... On to the food...Warm buttery rolls during dinner service were delicious. First night here (Thursday) was their Prime Rib Special night--$15 for a big piece of prime rib? I'm all in. Plus, it was pretty tasty. If I hadn't checked out their website I wouldn't have known about this special though, since it wasn't mentioned by the staff. On Sunday, we ordered the wings--garlic parm, amazing!! Cooked perfectly and lots of flavor. But (like the prime rib), they weren't on the menu, and we asked about them only because we had seen someone eating them the night prior. The chef was kind enough to make an order for us. Mr. A's clams=heaven if you love garlic, plenty of clams, and an amazing sauce to dip your bread in. On a separate note, there's multiple food menus for multiple sections of the restaurant (different names under one roof), and that threw us off a bit. Drinks were great--creative and delicious cocktails, and several local beer options. Extensive wine list. Fairly priced. Shout out to Kevin--I believe management, he went out of his way to make us specialty cocktails that were absolutely amazing. One thing that really threw us off was during our last visit. We were looking for a good place to watch the AFC championship game (aka a sports bar...). We asked the bartender if the game volume would be turned on for the game (we arrived 30 min in advance, this was the make or break for us in terms of staying--we planned on ordering drinks/food the entirety of the game). In my opinion, when the bartender of a "sports bar" is on the fence about turning on the volume of a championship game, and wants to take a "vote", you have to question the "sports bar" status of a place. I think this ties into the multiple menus issue noted before--The Barra is the "sports bar," but we were able to order from the Sorrento's menu (Italian bistro), and the Chef's Table menu the night prior, and our check said something about the "banner elk sushi club." Uhhhh....?? Overall--enjoyed dining here and will again on our next visit, and am hopeful that the identity crisis will be somewhat sorted out so as to avoid confusion for patrons. read more

The atmosphere is ok, but the place is dirty. They don't Sanitize or wipe down the tables in between guests, no toilet paper in men's bathroom and the bar tender was extremely rude. I ordered a pizza that never came the entire football game and they tried charging to me anyways. I literally had to argue with the bartender. Unreal.. We enjoyed our dinner seated at the copper bar. We happened on Prime Rib night and it was delicious. As our dinner came to an end, live music began playing--the perfect exclamation point on this special night. The staff is friendly, the room is cozy and the prices are reasonable. I stopped in here on a Sunday around 1 pm looking to have wings and beer and watch some football but they were serving a Sunday brunch only; not what I was in the mood for. As I decided to leave, the Manager, Bert stopped to talk to me and I explained why I was leaving. He asked me to wait a moment then came back and said they would make me some wings. I had a nice cold local draft and great conversation with my server, Mike and Bert as well. The wings were meaty and delicious! The place had a nice atmosphere and friendly staff as well. Mike also mentioned about the great dinner specials they have during the week so I guess I'll have to come back. read more

Upon entering the establishment the hostess was on her phone and couldn't be bothered with seating my party. After sitting down it took 15 minutes before our waitress got to us and no they were not busy after peeing our drinks and food the food was brought out before water or any of our appetizers and our waitress was no where to be found. After speaking to the manager who was extremely rude and in apologetic we waited another 30 minutes for our check. None of the staff was wearing mask and the bathroom was disgusting. Wow this place. Two weeks ago I came here. My sister had just lost her third kid. Man I was so emotional and got to drunk. Not good at all, by any means. I got sick from some the bad oysters we all ate, before this place and the drinks. Anyways, two weeks later I just got off work and went in to apologize, because that's awful of Me. I have been devastated for the last three weeks and felt so guilty even though my sister cries every night with out her child. I approached to apologize and do whatever I could to make it Right and the bar back says,, oh hear we go... wow .... I was so hurt. I suck at life already,,, now you do this. Your awful. No wonder I was the only one there and it was to apologize. I would of cleaned your stalls, kitchen, anything because that's not me. 'Awful place and they Totally made me feel like a mess up. Don't go here. I felt so great uncomfortable and now i know why no one was there. The bar back said I don't need you here. Ort need to serve you. Please, , don't say anything, or talk and leave. Damn, people go to bars to drink or get everything off of them. You made me feel the worst anyone ever made me feel. Great place to go for a drink and Live Music five days a week! Cash, the musician, is really talented and caters to the age of the crowd. You can order from both The Barra and Sorrento's menus. The spinach artichoke dip and pizzas are awesome. They have pizza specials on Monday and Tuesday and free pool on Monday. We were so surprised to have a Saturday night on Monday. Definitely recommend a visit here! read more

Visiting a good friend in the high country on a Thursday night where our Carolina Panthers were on TNFootball so searched the area for a Sports Bar. The Barra looked like the only answer but website showed lots of tv's and promoted Monday Night Football so figured Thursday night with the Panthers playing would be a winner. Things started out rough and went down hill. My friends and I all wanted bowls of what sounded like good gumbo. Guess it was because they had sold out of it. And it was only 7 pm. 1/2 the beers we wanted, they were out and choices are slim to start with. Nice that a bar would have live music but we found out the guy would be playing way after the game kicked off! What the hell! It's advertised as a Sports Bar!!! Not a music Bar. The only decent thing going was they had a good pizza. But will not be coming back. Someone needs to open a real sports bar in Banner Elk. read more

I am visiting Banner Elk on vacation which also happens to be my alma matters biggest game of the season. We didn't get the channel at our cabin so I searched for a sports bar to watch the game. Got to Barra and was excited to see so many TVs! They weren't busy yet so we had plenty of places to sit. The bartender was pretty attentive and we ordered from next door at Sorrentos. The pasta dishes were very good. Overall very good atmosphere for game watching. read more

The Barra may be small, but the atmosphere is excellant and the service is over the top! It has a lovely, vinatge cigar salon feel, with beautiful artwork, and yet cool enough to enjoy a game of pool or watch the game. If hungry, you are able to order from it's sister, Sorrento's Bistro or The Sushi Club, either way you have fabulous food, great quality drinks, and incredible service. I especially love the gazebo and fire pit right outside, it just seemed to open the place up, and yet keep it cozy and fun. A good time had, no matter what night of the week! read more
