It was a great atmosphere until I was ASSAULTED. I was two drinks in and was talking with one of the servers after they got off work, I was looking at concert tickets when a man approached me and was being very forward, I ignored his advances and continued looking at my phone, but after about five minutes of him being near me his wife/girlfriend came up and karate chopped him in the throat, she started yelling at him, while she was yelling at him, she karate chopped me in the throat. I had barely spoken to this man, yet she assaulted me nonetheless. The bartender working obviously overserved them and was not paying attention enough to see this altercation go down. Instead, I was reprimanded for trying to defend myself. I waited 45 minutes inside of the restaurant for the couple who assaulted me to leave. They however, did not leave. By the time I was walking out to my car, almost an hour later; The woman was still there, yelling at multiple different men saying she would beat them or her boyfriend/husband would beat them. This woman was wearing blue scrubs, head to toe, so assuming she is in health care, I will be in contact with the healthcare providers in the area. This is an absolutely outrageous experience from someone who is visiting from out of town, from someone who was minding their business not speaking to anybody unless spoken to. this experience was highly disappointing, and I will be back to get camera footage so I may press charges. read more

Today, I met some friends for lunch at the Town Tavern in Morganton. Our server was Lauren R. She was the only server I saw taking care of the tables. Three tables were already seated before us, and one more was added while we were still there. Our order was correct. The kitchen was rather stingy with the extra steak and extra bacon on my cheesesteak, but they did not add pickles or other unwanted items. So, even though I was charged for the extras and they skimped on the portions, they did not mess up my order technically. However, this review is about our waitress, Lauren. She was very friendly and polite. Our drinks never ran dry. She was simply amazing and awesome, and that is why I go there. The food is good, but the kitchen often gets it wrong. The main reason I visit is the waitstaff--they are outstanding. Lauren showed that she has those five-star, elite-level skills that you hear about but so rarely see. I generally don't go there for the ambience, but they normally have pretty good music. read more

I came here for dinner on Sunday around 6pm. It was not too crowded, and we were seated right away at a corner high top. There were a ton of TVs so if you're looking for a place to watch some games, this is definitely it. Our waitress was really nice, maybe a little timid, and even apologized for carding us. We started with drinks, just a beer and cocktail, and got the bourbon and volcano burgers. I honestly thought my long island tea tasted more like juice than anything else; definitely not nearly as stiff as I expected especially compared to other bars. I ended up getting a glass of wine for my second drink because that seemed like a better bet. All in all, this place will get the job done if you're in a pinch and really just need some food, but it's pretty standard, or slightly subpar fare. The service was unbelievable. Our waitress, Star checked back with us several times and made incredible suggestions about the vast menu. The Tavern did not fail to offer a great selection of brews from all around. The food ~ from soup, a cheesy French onion, to salad to an epic order of nachos that was not even the "Tavern Trash Can Nachos"that are hard to believe more towering than the order we shared. The Tavern offers an inviting atmosphere as well as a view of the Catawba River. Screens surround the restaurant's upper walls and display an array of interesting sporting events. Nice sports bar situated along the Catawba River with large windows and big outdoor seating area with great views of the review, love coming around sundown and seeing the light reflecting off the river. Good amount of TV's for watching the game, food is overall pretty good, could use a touch more seasoning on a couple dishes occasionally but normally leave pretty happy. This turned out to be my good fortune that the other place did not work out as I know I found a better spot. The service was friendly from the minute I walked in the door. My waitress was patient while I figured out the menu and even substituted fries for the chips as I wanted traditional fish and chips. The portion size was large but all so good. I was disappointed dessert wasn't offered but then I saw all the people waiting as I was leaving and they did give me a prime table. I've been to all three locations and Morganton definitely is lacking in good service. The bar tenders both times I've been are not personable at all and you have to ask them to do their job. No "how are you" just "what are you drinking" with no menus provided. Asking for menus seemed like a hassle and then getting plates and silverware to share a bunch of apps is also like you're bothering the bartender for doing their job. Food has come out cold twice now. It's a bummer because this location is only 15 minutes from me, but I'd rather drive the hour to blowing rock. If you don't like to be nice or talk to people, don't have a job in hospitality. I was a bartender for ten years and would never make it feel like an issue when someone is ordering food. I'm a local guy - come here once or twice a week since they re-opened after Hurricane Helene. I call it one of my "downtown offices". Most of the time, the food is great - once in a while it's a bit overcooked - but it is a tavern, after all, and I come to work on the laptop for a while with a drink in hand. For this purpose, it's the best in town. The service is always friendly and helpful and the ambiance is downtown sports bar by the river, which is perfect for me. In an nutshell, I love the place, but if you're looking for fancy or upscale, go somewhere else. Well I was forced to go back here due to some neighborhood friends wanting to go and this was the 1st time in over a year. I downrated them from a 2 to 1 star because the food CONSISTENTLY IS AWEFUL!!! I told my wife I will NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. It is a bar and nothing more. The cheese fries had queso on them which was not what we expected and did not love. The boneless wings were more breading then chicken which I did not mind but my husband did not love. We have been here a few times now. It has great ambience with a beautiful view of the river and live music also for being a sports like a bar it wasn't overly loud or obnoxious. The service is good. Some of the servers could be a little inexperienced like the time we had to send some food back because it was cold and then every time we asked about it they thought somebody else brought the french fries back so we ended up getting them after our dinner. The French onion soup is excellent truly excellent although a little bit too much bread and not enough soup needs to be filled more to the top so the cheese doesn't fall inside. The fish and chips is really the star of the show two nice large fillets, hot and crispy. It is plenty for two people. The black and shrimp appetizer was crispy, hot and tasted of fresh Ness, there is an abundance of choices on the menu so you would never have to feel like you had the same thing every time I think they have put a lot of effort into having a good amount of variety, although I would love to see more seafood and less fried items in the future read more

To start off with, the building is set right on the river with wonderful glass windows from near floor to ceiling, different levels and a huge out door patio, super clean and dressed like a old log cabin inside. Our waitress was perfect, sweet quick and never left you asking for anything. Oh I wanted so desperately to love this place! The river is so nice to look at! There's a lovely walkway you can go on before or after your meal. This place really should have been perfect. It's very upsetting the wasted potential here. I've been to this restaurant twice in about a week and a half. The first time we had to deal with a few flies while we ate. Look, we're by the river, it's hot outside, somethings can't be controlled. It was annoying but it was manageable. However, Today, we had to battle an army of flies! It was very gross and there wasn't anything we could do. In the end the flies won. First visit our waitress was personable but seemed very busy. She informed us they were out of pub chips, French fries, onions rings, and I think sweet potato fries. We got an appetizer of pretzels with queso dip. I had a veggie wrap for my meal and my partner had a Philly cheesesteak. Pretzels were good, queso was good. Probably the best part of the meal. Veggie wrap unfortunately had steak on the outside of the wrap from the grill. Not sure why the wrap was grilled to begin with because it had lettuce in it, but I was able to pull the wrap off and eat it like a salad. Mental note taken that veggie wrap is not safe for vegetarians due to grill. Partner said the Philly cheesesteak was ok. Today, we decided to give this place another go. Our waitress was not as nice as the previous one. She acted like she didn't want to be there, and with all the flies, I couldn't blame her. We ordered spinach artichoke dip, I got a tavern salad without bacon and my partner went with the Philly cheesesteak again. The spinach dip was good. It's not the best I've had, it was far from the worse. It was good. The salad unfortunately had bacon pieces hidden throughout the bowl. This was heartbreaking because there was nothing I could do to try and eat around it. It was a huge bowl of lettuce and it looked good until I found the bacon. I'm assuming the bacon got mixed in with the tomatoes somehow or the person making it had gloves on or maybe they forgot and added the bacon and then tried to take it out or hide the pieces? I don't know. I didn't eat any of the salad and sadly by this point the flies had started in on the spinach dip because we had not been actively trying to protect it, so no real "meal" for me. Note: I did try a crouton and something was off about the crouton. It tasted like plastic or chemicals. Like lemon lysol or something! Philly Cheesesteak was ok. $60 for a meal that was ok at best and gross at the worst. I would have been better off going to a chain or eating at home. Not worth the views. Maybe the location in Boone is better. I sure hope it is. I understand times are hard but the owners/managers really need to do something or this place won't survive. The kitchen needs to be cleaned up, the tables need a deep cleaning- one chair looked like it had dried vomit on it, find a way to deal with the massive amount of flies, and try to work on cross contamination. I don't care about the waitstaff's attitudes as long as the food is good, the place is clean and they're not being outright rude (which no one was). read more
