Great option in union square! Standard pub fare and atmosphere however we received friendly service. It was apparently our waiters first night on the job and we thought he did an excellent job, kudos to whoever trained him. We ordered pub chips for the table, and I'm a sucker for house made chips. These were thinly sliced and nicely cooked, I would go as far to say they were some of my favorites I've had. These portions of fish for the fish and chips were huge and two people ended up splitting it. The fish and the fry were nicely cooked. The fries were just average. Also ordered at the table was the chicken salad bowl. Talk about HUGE portion size, soo much chicken salad, however it was very yummy and the bread bowl it came in was excellent. When I arrived the host immediately sat me at a booth and didn't try to seat me at the bar which tends to be common places. My waitress was as friendly as could be. I went with the sirloin steak; fries and salad. The sirloin was ok but I usually order another cut of meat that is leaner but that wasn't on the menu here. The salad was larger than expected so I didn't finish the meal but I rarely do. I was given both a to- go box and a tea to go. Worst customer service--our server Nicole completely ruined what should have been a pleasant dinner. I visited Old Hickory Tap Room with my daughter and sister, and while the waitress who initially took care of us was warm and kind, Nicole, who brought out our food, was shockingly rude. When my daughter politely asked for a side of extra butter, Nicole responded with an unnecessary and condescending comment: "I'll have to charge you for that." The butter was not an extra charge, which made the remark feel deliberately spiteful. Her attitude throughout the encounter was cold, dismissive, and extremely unprofessional. It felt as though she went out of her way to be unpleasant, and at moments, her tone and behavior gave off a vibe that felt racially charged. Whether intentional or not, the way we were treated made us feel singled out and deeply uncomfortable. No guest should ever be treated like this. One person's negative attitude should not be allowed to ruin the dining experience for paying customers. I sincerely hope the management addresses this behavior so that others don't have to go through what we did. read more

Our first visit was wonderful! They have dark beers. In fact on tap they had three I could choose from and it was very hard to make a choice based upon the three samples are server, Carson, brought. But I choose the Porter over the two Stouts. On a different day who knows. I paired it with half a crab cake appetizer (split with my partner) and half a Ruben with pub chips (also split). They increased the height of the dividers between the booths and moves high top tables against the bar and added tall, plexiglass barriers. All staff were masked up and maintaining social distance when possible. I had the chicken fried chicken with mash potatoes and Irish roots. Little did I know that Irish roots are potatoes also. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that there was a lot of dust in the bathroom floor.. a more efficient vacuum would get to those nooks and crannies. When I got my plate the first thing that caught my eye were the fries, they were fresh but were soggy because they weren't cooked long enough. The fish was also fresh but the breading was soggy & falling apart bc it hadn't been cooked long enough as well. The fish tasted good but a big part of fish n chips is the crispy breading on the fish. The coleslaw was average, I could taste a hint of refrigeration indicating it hadn't been made the same day if I were to assume. My husband had fish & chips and I had chicken tenders - all was very tasty. They had many beers on tap and Debbie steered us in our choice. I also had a shot of Mezcal (Del Maguey, VIDA Single Village). Over priced for shot and when I looked at receipt I see I was charged for Deleon Platinum Tequila which ranks a bit higher and quite different from what I had - not sure Debbie & another bar tender knew what to charge so they went on the high side.
