Amos Howard's Pub is a must visit! Don't let the old building fool you, they have a huge beer selection from local breweries and around the world. The hamburgers are always delicious, but the wings are where they really shine they are always fresh hot and crispy all sauces are made in house, the house made jerk sauce is absolutely great! Salads are fresh and have so many ingredients and all dressings are house made. And if you're looking for something more, the ribeye steak is pretty amazing. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Prices are also great for the quality of products you get. I've Been going here for years and have never been disappointed. The ambience is rustic, with some booths in barrels. The food was spot on. Simple and good. My wife had the BBQ plate with two sides, broccoli and cole slaw. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal and the house wine. I love a good Ahi Tuna Sandwich, and this was definitely that! The tuna was cooked incredibly well. Nice and pink. I enjoyed my beer. This restaurant has full hours, contrary to a number of restaurants that seem to close at either 2pm or 2:30 pm, only to reopen later at 4pm or 5pm. The most challenging thing about this restaurant is not driving past the restaurant. There is no sign screaming "Amos Howard's." It is worth the effort. This is a keeper. read more

Most days are a hit, some days are a miss. The food is great 9 out of 10 times. The service is good 6 out of 10 times I believe that to be due to staffing shortages which is plaguing everyone at this point. I believe they do their best and I'll be back for sure. Once I would had never gave this place anything but 5 starts however this is my 1st trip back in 3-4 years, it started with the change of appetizers wanted the mushrooms which they don't do anymore then we ordered jalapeño poppers and they were over fried. Then we ordered 12 wings for $15 however we wanted 2 different types and that is $3 more. What the heck! The staff is slow and not very helpful really. Then we ask for a bigger table because more guess showed up and there was a big table open however we could not use it because you have to call to reserve it. Every time I'm in Hickory, I love eating here. Two words: pimento cheese! They have the best pimento cheese concoction on the planet, and I usually get a small tub of it to go. I have been going here for years. Left town for 10+ years and returned. The Food and Service is good. The beer pricing has increased. Went by local Food Lion and saw 6 PKG OF OHB beer for $12.00. Went for late lunch this week and mentioned cost of beer @ 4.50 for 16 oz vs 2.00 for 12 oz at the Lion. Smart ass response was you cant drink at Lood Lion. Ate here for the 1st time tonight and I'll admit I was a bit skeptical from the outside. Once we got inside tho the set up of the place was really cool. You have the regular seating like booths and tables but they also offer a much more private "barrel" experience. It is exactly what it sounds like, a giant barrel with circular padded seats. (if your tall you hafta duck to get in). Beth was our waitress and she was fantastic! After a few hours of riding I was pretty thirsty and I can be difficult to keep up with at the best of times lol. Neither of our drinks were ever empty. The food was excellent and the portions perfect! We left stuffed and happy! A+ experience! My wife and I stopped for the first time last night on the way to a 6:30pm movie. Dirty is the first word to describe this restaurant. It's not just that it's an old building with dingy looking, old tables and booths. We could see food on the floor under our table, from some other diners, at some other point in the day. Very friendly service is another way to describe this place. Our server was extremely inviting, friendly and helpful. He was very happy to be there, doing what he was doing. Food? Well, it's okay, in some respects, and in others, well, nothing I plan to return for. My hubby's burger had a slice of obviously, way over-processed American cheese. The kind that is so latex in quality, I didn't melt on the burger. The beer-battered onion rings were good. I can see this being a nice alternative to pretzels and peanuts, while you drink your beer. Service suck this past saturday night order the special blacken and blue steak, plain steak came out waited and waited for waitress to come over finally didn't want to hold up spouse from eating went ahead and settle for plain steak waitress finally came over and said kitchen must have forgot then went and erase menu board with special she never once came back and asked if we wanted refills on our empty wine glasses. Usually the place has a relaxed atmosphere and is Cheers-like in that there are a lot of regulars and many folks know each other.
