Knowing that we only had a few hours to celebrate our anniversary, my father in law told my husband "go take her to The Peddler". He followed those instructions and ended the night saying "that's the best steak I've had in a restaurant". Between the excellent service and food, this was one of the best anniversary meals I've had at a restaurant. We were told to make reservations, and fortunately with the local college in summer session, we were able to select our ideal time slot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon arrival, we were promptly seated in their area with a rounded glass wall/ceiling that allowed for a beautiful view of Boone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a warm interior with a mix of wood booths or tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The rolls they serve at the table reminiscent of the Sister Schubert's yeast rolls, and I was not mad about that. We split the 12 ounce ribeye, and got a side of their French onion soup. It came out with a nicely bubbled and browned layer of cheese covering a piece of bread atop the soup. The entree comes with unlimited salad, and I loved how you got to select your salad on a piece of paper from one of their amazing ready-made selections or they had a create-your-own space. I opted for the Cobb salad. And even after all of that food, we still opted for dessert because why not? We split the Mountain Mama Cinnabun. The massive cinnabun comes out with a nice layer of icing on top and two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. It was all we could do to eat "two spirals" of the cinnabun and one scoop of ice cream before we had to call it quits. With all of the beautiful scenery, wonderful salads, and expertly prepared entrees, I would say the wait staff equally provided to the excellent experience. We had our dedicated table host, but in addition to that was The Peddler who takes your food order specifically, additional folks who bring out your food, and other servers whose job it is to keep your glass full and table cleared of empty dishes. All of the wait staff were extremely polite and not overbearing. All in all, it was a delightful experience, and I hope to bring more of the family up next time so they can experience that level of service and food too.

I loved this place so much I'm going again tonight for another special occasion! I love that you can get a salad, a steak, and a side. Not to mention those yummy rolls and the desserts!! I hate those places that do a la carte sides and make you spend so much more money just to have a full meal. The guy that came around with the meat was fun too. I want to highlight the mashed potatoes because I loved them. Flavorful and great consistency. I got the prime rib and it was a beautiful cut but the au jus was lacking a bit of salt. All in all this was a great meal and I'm excited to go again!

Food was good but they overfill you with custom salads!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]A very busy place in fall and winter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Salads were good though.

Forgot to take picture but the cocktail shrimp was good ... didn't like that they sprinkled old bay...

Food was okay.. mediocre... service was good... [[HIGHLIGHT]]still old steakhouse...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] lack of flavor... [[HIGHLIGHT]]let's say they had more staffs than customers on Saturday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

First time here and it was pretty decent. I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and asparagus. All was cooked perfectly. I really wanted a salad but they gave me the salad sheet to built my own salad but didn't provide a pen, which I didn't have on me. When they finally came back to my table to ask for my order, I just didn't want to wait for a pen and just opted for the asparagus. Maybe a pen should be provided at the time you're sat and the waiter collect? I'm not sure what the locals do as this was my first time. The seem to do things a little different, that's okay but it was a little confusing. I'll probably be back to try the steak.

I've been to Peddler probably over 50 times in my life starting since the mid 1980's. Usually for special occasions a few times a year as a kid and in high school and beyond, and I've always enjoyed the unlimited salad bar and their steaks. It had been about 4 years since we had been back and it looked like the pandemic had changed their operations a bit--new interior and renovations (we found out in early 2022) and they no longer had self-service on the salad bar (now it's delivered to you after you fill out a salad order form), but still unlimited. We had fantastic service by an attentive and super friendly waitress (I think her name was McKenzie), and our meal experience was superb from start to finish. A few changes with the new system: no French onion soup anymore as part of the salad bar. And a few salad bar items are no longer there (I think caviar was one). Regardless, the steaks are fresh and cut table side by the Peddler and the staff are great and constantly attentive to you during the meal. We've loved this place for decades and still love going back whenever we're in town. ----TL;DR---- PROS: tons of food and large portions, plenty of salad bar choices. Great quality steaks and cooked exactly as you like CONS: parking could be tight but usually it's not a problem. BOTTOM LINE: one of our favorite restaurants in Boone--great for a date night or family night for a nice dinner. We'll keep coming back!

This was our best experience yet at the Peddler! Everything was cooked as ordered. Staff was taking care of diners and helping each other with various table needs.

We ordered the trout deviled eggs, the smoked trout Boursin, and split the cracked crusted trout lunch with Hoppin' John and smoked Gouda grits. Every part of the meal was delicious and perfectly prepared. The trout was fresh, flavorful, and the sides complemented it so well. The only thing I'd mention is that the smoked trout Boursin is incredibly rich. It's delicious, but if you're dining as a party of two it may be a bit much in flavor so you won't want to eat too many. We weren't able to finish it. Flavor was great but could have saved. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the service was excellent. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation, even for lunch, to avoid a long wait. We were lucky enough to sit outside on the patio on a beautiful day, and the atmosphere made the experience even better. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in North Carolina!

It's definitely a bit of a drive from Charlotte, but well worth it if you're exploring the mountain towns and scenery in the area. The restaurant has a really cool upscale mountain vibe that feels relaxed and comfortable without being stuffy. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and the whole place just had that quality mountain town feel to it. My wife and I both ordered trout, which felt like the right move here. I had the almond crusted trout with basil potatoes and garlicky grits, and it was excellent. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. The garlicky grits were especially good. My wife ordered the smoked trout, and let's just say they do not mess around with the smoke flavor here. It was seriously smoky. A couple hours later she was still burping little smoke rings on the drive home If you love strong smoky flavor, you'll probably love it. They also had a really solid craft beer selection that fit the mountain atmosphere perfectly. Overall, high quality food, great service, fun atmosphere, and absolutely worth the drive. Easy five stars from us.

For my dinner I ordered the Wood Fried Brussels. The Brussel sprouts were not caramelized like I had at other places but it was very good and probably healthier. Others at the table ordered the Cobb Salad, classic wedge with salmon, & the Artisan pizza. Unfortunately, the salmon was not completely cooked so it went uneaten. Two people in our party ordered diet cokes which were fountain drinks. The diet cokes were not good because there was no carbonation. The pizza and Cobb salad were good. If you eat here during the colder months, I recommend asking for a seat inside. That seemed like it would have been a cozier experience.

Dori and I were looking for lunch one day while visiting Boone, and ended up in FARM, mainly due to visiting Boone Belles right next door. What was an accidental encounter turned in a fantastically spiritual experience. Like all my write ups, I am giving my opinion based on the type of restaurant, service level expectation and the price. The business model is to feed everyone who walks in whether you can pay for it or not. You can eat for free, pay $10 (or as much as you like), buy food tokens to leave in the token jar (passing on a meal) or work off your food in the kitchen or helping out... again as much or little as you want. The atmosphere is what your would expect in a cafeteria with folks servicing you off the line. The food is fresh farm to table and you only pay $10 for your meal, of which they have few options and basically tell what you can order. ... the food for the price was exceptional. There were folks from all walks of life from well off families to homeless folks off the street. The tables are tight and few in number, but not so much to be instructive. They are close enough to do one of my favorite things, meeting people and hearing their stories. So eat, meet and move on to make room for others. You really can miss it if you do not know it's there...look for it tucked away between Boone Belles and the Horton Hotel. In summary, if you are looking for a different dinner adventure, a good meal for services and price, and want to do some good in the world please check out the FARM Restaurant.
