Full disclosure: our reservation was at 8pm after graduation Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience. The Caesar salad was underwhelming. The mozzarella sticks had very little cheese. Two of our steaks were undercooked. One was ordered well and was given rare. The other was ordered medium and was given rare. They did fix them after requested. The steak did not have enough seasoning. About 5 or 6 different servers kept coming to our table every few minutes asking if we needed anything or if they could refill our water. The disruption of conversations from being constantly asked negatively affected our experience. While I understand our reservation was later in the night and that this could have been the reason for this poor experience, I had higher expectations for this steakhouse. Knowing that we only had a few hours to celebrate our anniversary, my father in law told my husband "go take her to The Peddler". He followed those instructions and ended the night saying "that's the best steak I've had in a restaurant". Between the excellent service and food, this was one of the best anniversary meals I've had at a restaurant. We were told to make reservations, and fortunately with the local college in summer session, we were able to select our ideal time slot. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated in their area with a rounded glass wall/ceiling that allowed for a beautiful view of Boone. The restaurant has a warm interior with a mix of wood booths or tables. The rolls they serve at the table reminiscent of the Sister Schubert's yeast rolls, and I was not mad about that. We split the 12 ounce ribeye, and got a side of their French onion soup. It came out with a nicely bubbled and browned layer of cheese covering a piece of bread atop the soup. The entree comes with unlimited salad, and I loved how you got to select your salad on a piece of paper from one of their amazing ready-made selections or they had a create-your-own space. I opted for the Cobb salad. And even after all of that food, we still opted for dessert because why not? We split the Mountain Mama Cinnabun. The massive cinnabun comes out with a nice layer of icing on top and two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. It was all we could do to eat "two spirals" of the cinnabun and one scoop of ice cream before we had to call it quits. With all of the beautiful scenery, wonderful salads, and expertly prepared entrees, I would say the wait staff equally provided to the excellent experience. We had our dedicated table host, but in addition to that was The Peddler who takes your food order specifically, additional folks who bring out your food, and other servers whose job it is to keep your glass full and table cleared of empty dishes. All of the wait staff were extremely polite and not overbearing. All in all, it was a delightful experience, and I hope to bring more of the family up next time so they can experience that level of service and food too. read more

This is such a romantic date place . First the food is phenomenal and the wait staff are just excellent! We love the salad and all the variety of things offered on the salad bar.. or from it they make it order for you , Thanks to Covid for no more old school salad bar set up ... but it's just as delicious as always and they offer second round if you can hold it . First let me start the server was great. Was vacationing in the area and wanted a good steak. They come around with the meat and cut it in front of you which is nice and all but when I saw the cut it looked like a choice piece with absolutely no marbling. First time here and it was pretty decent. I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and asparagus. All was cooked perfectly. I really wanted a salad but they gave me the salad sheet to built my own salad but didn't provide a pen, which I didn't have on me. When they finally came back to my table to ask for my order, I just didn't want to wait for a pen and just opted for the asparagus. Maybe a pen should be provided at the time you're sat and the waiter collect? I'm not sure what the locals do as this was my first time. I've been to Peddler probably over 50 times in my life starting since the mid 1980's. Usually for special occasions a few times a year as a kid and in high school and beyond, and I've always enjoyed the unlimited salad bar and their steaks. It had been about 4 years since we had been back and it looked like the pandemic had changed their operations a bit--new interior and renovations (we found out in early 2022) and they no longer had self-service on the salad bar (now it's delivered to you after you fill out a salad order form), but still unlimited. We had fantastic service by an attentive and super friendly waitress (I think her name was McKenzie), and our meal experience was superb from start to finish. A few changes with the new system: no French onion soup anymore as part of the salad bar. And a few salad bar items are no longer there (I think caviar was one). Regardless, the steaks are fresh and cut table side by the Peddler and the staff are great and constantly attentive to you during the meal. We've loved this place for decades and still love going back whenever we're in town. ----TL;DR---- PROS: tons of food and large portions, plenty of salad bar choices. Great quality steaks and cooked exactly as you like CONS: parking could be tight but usually it's not a problem. BOTTOM LINE: one of our favorite restaurants in Boone--great for a date night or family night for a nice dinner. We'll keep coming back! read more

Our first visit and it started off very nice. Friendly greeting, nice table, friendly and knowledgeable waiter and great salad. The misses ordered shrimp on a skewer which was nothing to brag about, just ordinary. I ordered steak which was rolled up to the table on a cart and sliced (12 ozs.) the waiter sliced the steak picked it up with his bare hand and placed it on a scale. He then picked it up off the scale with his bare hand and placed it on the cart to be rolled into the kitchen. My steak was very tasty but a lot of fat and grizzel. Reasons we will not return, 1. I ordered a filet mignon, medium (usually I order steaks medium rare, but a filet is usually very thick so I typically order it medium) and it came out maybe a quarter of an inch thick and well done. I was very underwhelmed. They replaced it very quickly with a better cooked filet, still very thin. The steak could have used a little more seasoning. Potatoes were good. Because we have the best butcher shop around, Steven's Country Store and Butcher Shop, the steaks we grill at home are superior to even the highest rated five star restaurants. So to have a restaurant like Peddler's who have excellent quality meat do a fantastic job in preparation of the steak was wonderful. They also have access to good lobster, which they prepare and serve perfectly. But the food is not what makes Pedder five star. Their wait staff is a finely tuned machine. No one is idle, they help each other with quiet hand signals and well defined gestures. If as a customer, you give the proper signals, they take care of your every need without being intrusive. The ambiance was good, not great, but still well thought out and efficient. Peddler is not made or broken by its layout or food, it is set apart by its wait staff. read more

Made a reservation for a Sunday night and were seated promptly upon arrival. Service was really great - our water glasses were always full, bread came out as soon as we settled in, and the servers were able to answer any questions we had. We filled out our salad orders on the little cards while we were waiting for the peddler to come around and take our entree orders. Everyone in my party ordered the 10oz ribeye. It's definitely a nice experience to watch the steaks be cut for you at the table. I also opted to get two scallops and mushrooms as my side. Food came out very quickly. We had just finished our salads when the entrees arrived. The side of mushrooms was a great portion and definitely enough to share. I was disappointed with the size of the scallops though. For $3.50 each these were the smallest scallops I've ever eaten. The flavor was pretty good, but I'd probably skip on these next time. The steak was good, but not great in my opinion. It was cooked well, but there were definitely some tough bits that were difficult to chew and it could of had more flavor. Overall it was a pretty good experience and the service was great! They would not take a reservation for a party of 10 so I went there willing to wait so I could introduce my friends to this restaurant. I told them I was willing to split into two tables. They told me I would wait 1.5 hours and they would not guarantee we would be near each other and we may even get seated at different times. Husband and I were visiting from Las Vegas NV. We decided to try the Peddlers Steakhouse because of other people's nice reviews. They serve all you can eat salads and give you a list of things you can have on it. The salads are okay. The ranch dressing is watered downed so it has a different taste to it. Then if you're ordering Ribeye steak the Peddler comes to your table and cuts the size of steak you ordered right in front of you. The steaks they serve are okay. They're not seasoned well. No flavor. Our waitress was very nice and listened very well. The only thing that was rude was the tall Man in dressed up clothes comes around and ask how everything is then this man reached right over my plate and took some trash that was sitting on the left side of the table. Totally weird. Like wait until I'm finished eating. Have some manners. If this man is part of management learn some management etiquettes. read more

A unique concept for steakhouse dining that I would highly recommend making reservations in advanced for. We were a party of 4 and didn't have reservations and was told it would be a 2 hour wait, we even arrived shortly after opening. They don't have much space for waiting so we went down the road to Applebees for a drink and apps before our table was ready. We ended up being seated just an hour later. I know host staff over estimate wait times however a whole hour was quite a bit. Once we were seated we had our custom salad sheets. I personally liked this concept since I'm more picky about my salads. The portion was plentiful for a side salad and dinner roles were also brought out. The rolls were average. We also ordered some drinks which took a little while to come from the bar. The Candy Apple Sour and Spiced Winter Sangria were pretty good but nothing over the top. The peddler, not the waitstaff takes your entree order pending on where your table is located due to the cramped dining space. The tables are very close together and I would often times have someone bump in to me or brush my back every time they walked by. We had the pleasure of watching our ribeyes being cut, however the interaction was very minimal. The experience of cutting the steak was a bit overhyped in my opinion. Our meals overall were delicious. Everyone's steak was cooked fairly well. Medium rare. A few were a bit undercooked but I'd rather have a slightly undercooked rather than overcooked steak. We were a little let down with the sides. The baked and twice baked potatoes were good but we were told the steamed veggie was asparagus. When our plates came out, it was not asparagus and broccolini instead. That was a bit disappointing. We ordered desserts to share, crème brûlée and the seasonal pumpkin spice cheesecake. Both were very decadent and full of flavor. I would likely return again, slightly overhyped, but the food is great and it's a unique concept. Prices overall are fair for a nice steakhouse. read more
