Fried food, mostly breading. Chowder with very few clams, thick enough to stand a spoon in. Staff (wait and cashier) engaging in offensive political conversation with customers. Few customers when everything else was packed on a snow season Saturday night should have been a red flag. So it seems when you're in the mountains and you're craving seafood, unless it's trout, you probably should go somewhere else. Server was overwhelmed, but friendly. We arrived, a party of two, a little after 5:00 on a Friday evening and she said it had been nonstop since 3:00. It got busier as we sat there and ate our dinner. I think I actually heard her growl under her breath as she saw a party of 5 get seated in her section! My rainbow trout was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed that. Their clam chowder was also very good. Not too thick and not too salty with perfectly cooked potatoes. Hush puppies were yummy with the honey butter. The butterflied shrimp and the fried cod were just typical. The batter wasn't anything special. Needed more seasoning. At least some salt. I have had better. I finished my trout. My husband didn't finish his shrimp and cod and after trying it, he was on his own. Server gives you your check and you pay up front. The older gentleman at the register (maybe the owner Mike?) was "yes, sir" and "yes, Mr. Johnson" to those who were waiting for their take-out and literally ignored me. Didn't even say, "I'll be with you in a second." When it finally came around to my turn after everyone around was taken care of, he didn't say one word to this Asian woman with her Puerto Rican husband. I don't think he even made eye contact with me. I smiled and said my please and thank you, of course. So I enjoyed my trout, but overall, probably not a place I'd make a return trip to. I'm all about supporting local business even if the food isn't fabulous. But if the grumpy old man at the register doesn't make everyone feel welcome, I'll spend the money elsewhere. read more

We came here for dinner before a show at the local college. The menu is extensive, particularly given the ability to mix and match seafood items. Frankly I don't remember what everyone else in our party of 6 ordered, but I got the fried sea scallops and calabash shrimp. The food was delicious, portions were large and prices competitive. I was also impressed with the hush puppies which were quite tasty. This place is remarkable for a mountain town; it tastes as good as anyplace I've eaten at the beach. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the service couldn't keep up with all the customers and the dining room was old and worn. We'll definitely be back! read more

We went for a late lunch early dinner on a Friday. We had no problem getting a place to sit, but it was starting to fill up when we left. The choice of seafood is very good considering how far we are from the coast. You also get your choice of how the seafood is prepared which is very welcome rather than the typical fried. so much funl!! the food was delicious! i got the crab cake sandwich and they had very yummy remoulade sauce to go with it. my buddy got the all you can eat shrimp and love eat option of cooking they offered! they offer local beer and good food! the bathrooms were very clean and so was the rest of the restaurant! our waitress was lovely. she kept up with us and got us everything we need and she was quick too! loved it here will definitely be coming back! read more

This place looks a little dive'y inside and out, but the food was really good. Our server was the sweetest young lady who said she hadn't worked there for long. We asked her a barrage of questions and she answered them patiently. I ordered the Large 2 Item Combination and chose Scallops and Butterfly Shrimp. My plate came with 9 huge lightly breaded beautiful Butterfly Shrimp and 9 large lightly breaded and perfectly cooked Sea Scallops. I also had a Baked Potato, Green Salad and Hush Puppies. My meal was so huge that I took all but 1 shrimp, 1 scallop, my salad, and my potato, home for the following day. I loved the basket of butter packets at our table along with plenty of cocktail and tartar sauces available, as well. My dining companion/friend ordered the nightly Special Flounder and she didn't really care for it. But with the exception of the fish, she enjoyed the remainder of her dinner, including her Clam Chowder. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants excellent seafood, and good prices, but doesn't necessarily want high dollar ambience. Rainbow trout was small portion very little seasoning and flavor. Stuff flounder was a huge portion of fish but the stuffing was "just ok", and could've cooked about 5min longer. I'll start my review off by saying I am from the Low Country, aka born and raised in Charleston SC. With that info, I was hesitant to try Mikes Inland Seafood for about the first year I lived in Boone: WOW I was missing out. Mikes has so many options of fish served daily and you can get it grilled, fried, seasoned with old bay or even teriyaki. Large shrimp, calabash shrimp, crab cakes, flounder, tilapia, deviled crab, oysters, and more. There are numerous side options (baked potato, sweet potato, onion rings, fries, green beans, to name a few), and everything is delicious! Heck, even the SIDE salad comes with bacon, tomato, onion, croutons, boiled egg... they don't mess around here! All staff are so friendly in person and ofer the phone with take out. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for any seafood in the area. And, while I haven't tried it myself, they do serve chicken and steak as well! Lastly, inside is decked out and makes me feel like I'm inside what the Krusty Krab on Spongebob feels like. Love this place! read more

We have found another favorite place to eat in Boone!!! It was a late lunch after hiking up Elk Knob. We were seated immediately. Robin was right there to greet us and take our order. She was so friendly and helpful and was honest in her suggestions. We started with the hot hush puppies, spread with honey butter at Robin's suggestion. OMG!!! My husband had fried Alaskan White Fish and I had fried flounder. We both had the onion rings and slaw. The slaw was perfect, not too mayonnaisey. The food was hot and fresh. Delicious!!! Mikes is such a surprise treat, away from home! I am from the coast, and seafood is my favorite food bar none! To find Mikes this far away from coast, I wasn't expecting much. Was I pleasantly surprised. This place is a rare find, and a gem among rocks! Not eaten inside, because of restrictions, but you can. Mike's is an old school North Carolina seafood place in the mountains. It's a place where you take your check up to the cashier. This spot is a MUST if you want a good meal, awesome service and a chance to talk around the table. Mike's has no TV, no loud music playing, no beer or liquor and no fancy decor. What they do offer is great food & huge portions. There is a lot on the menu and you can get most fish items prepared your way- broiled, charbroiled or fried. I ordered a small combo platter - charbroiled scallops & butterfly shrimp that come with 2 sides- baked potato & veggies. The scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly and seasoned with Old Bay and butter. Butter always makes seafood taste yummy. My baked potato was plain but there was butter and sour cream on the table. Veggies were a combo of carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. I hate cooked carrots so that's what most of the medley consisted of (of course). Hubby ordered the medium Calabash shrimp (fried) with a side of onion rings and a baked potato. His plate was HEAPING with little shrimp- they were so sweet & tender. And the onion rings were big and tasty. Highly recommend the onion rings! The dinners all come with hush puppies which are some of the best we've eaten in Boone. They add a little onion or garlic powder in the batter and that makes all the difference if you ask me. Service was efficient, polite and the servers make great conversation. We noticed them taking excellent care of all the tables. We enjoyed our experience, we just may have to make a second visit this trip to check out more of the menu. read more

We are major seafood connoisseurs, so after an impromptu day trip to Boone, I searched for a local seafood restaurant and came across this jewel. The food was amazing! Not overly impressed. We were visiting friends in the area and he arranged a group dinner before catching a movie. Insisted that Mike's Inland had the best seafood in town. Sounded good. We arrived for our reservation on time and were seated for our large group gathering, probably 10-11 of us. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded and I thought our waitress did an outstanding job of keeping up with all the requests from the table. Soups and salads came out first followed by some hush puppies that were placed in the middle of every few tables... the food was a little slow to come out. My wife ordered clam chowder and we were anxiously awaiting to find a few decent size clam pieces but to no avail. She also ordered cold peel and eat shrimp for her meal and the shrimp were overlooked and underwhelming. Not a good night for wifey. I ordered the fried clam strip meal and they were decent but not great. This might've been the best seafood in town, although I hope not. I've had much better seafood elsewhere for sure read more
