We chose Bella's Italian Restaurant after seeing positive reviews while traveling with our family. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable and not appropriate for families. There was about a 30 minute wait. We briefly stepped out and returned, only to learn our table had been ready but the text notification did not go through due to a phone number error. Not a big issue, we waited patiently with our two children ages 8 and 10. While we were waiting, the hostess went up to a man working the bar wearing a hat to speak to him about our table. She appeared apologetic and uncomfortable. His response and body language came across as irritated and dismissive. While still nearby, we overheard the same man speaking loudly to a bar customer and referring to a woman as "one of those crazy b***** online." It appeared connected to the table involved in the interaction that followed. After we were seated, the same man, who had been working the bar, came into the dining area and approached another table, a group that appeared to be in their 60s to 70s, regarding a receipt or refund issue. Based on his role and how he handled the situation, I initially assumed he was a manager. The discussion became tense. The woman at the table shook her receipt and said something to the effect of listening to him was making her more upset. At that point, he raised his voice and shouted profanity, telling her to "get the f*** out of my restaurant." As he walked away, he turned back and began shouting again, saying additional things about his integrity and honesty, then again told her to "get the f*** out" before storming into the kitchen. This occurred in the middle of the dining room with children present, including our own and another nearby table with young girls. From the back of the restaurant, loud banging could be heard, and it appeared he struck a wall or object while shouting additional profanity. The table he addressed appeared shaken and quietly left without further argument. The entire restaurant went silent. The servers themselves were professional and kind throughout the evening, but the outburst clearly affected the atmosphere for everyone. Overall, the food was about a 7 out of 10. The lasagna was good. Other dishes were mixed. The spaghetti marinara was very bitter and unbalanced, the shrimp scampi was heavy, and the amount of butter served with the rolls was excessive. Later, I was told by staff that the man involved is the owner's son. Later that night, my son told me that as he and the same man reached the single occupancy restroom door at the same time, the man told him to go first, but did so in a sharp and impatient manner that came across as aggressive. After witnessing repeated profanity and outbursts earlier in the evening, having my child spoken to in that manner by the same individual was completely unacceptable. Regardless of internal issues, repeated profanity, raised voices, and aggressive behavior toward guests, especially with children present, is not appropriate in a restaurant setting. We will not return and would caution families before dining here. read more

I've been a loyal customer at Bella's for years during our annual mountain trips and have recommended it to many people. Unfortunately, this will be my last visit. We arrived shortly after opening with a party of 8 and were told there would be a 15-minute wait, even though both dining rooms were empty. We waited in our car as instructed, then checked back after 15 minutes. Still no table. While waiting on a bench with my young child and my 70-year-old mother, a hostess came over to tell us we had to wait outside if we were waiting for a table, even though others were waiting inside for to-go orders. We were seated, not blocking any exits, and the restaurant was nowhere near capacity. When we questioned this, we were told it was "fire code." A second hostess repeated this rudely, even to members of our party who had ordered drinks at the bar. So, back out into the 20-degree cold we went. After about 30 minutes, we were finally seated--only to be told pizzas were now a 90-minute wait! No manager was on duty to address concerns, when I asked to speak with one. Several issues stand out: 1. This problem is systemic from the top down. 2. Hostesses should be welcoming, regardless of stress. 3. Dine-in guests should be prioritized over take-out orders. 4. A pizza place should be able to handle pizza orders without extreme delays. This is the second bad experience we've had here with long waits and poor customer service. Bella's markets itself as a "family" business, but clearly does not value families. I will never return and cannot recommend this restaurant to others. read more

I am sorry that there are no pictures for this review. My hungry family ate the pizzas before I could even take a picture. Make sure you get the Greek calzone. It is absolutely the most amazing thing. The pretzel with the beer cheese is out of this world. Pretty pretty pretty please do not sleep on the Cole's white pie. We added meatballs! This is a nice local restaurant and every time I go the staff is super friendly. I recently got a to-go order and everything was done right - they were generous with the extra sauce and the salad came with plenty of dressing. The half salad is still a very good size. For pizza I got the spicy Hawaiian which for me was perfect. It's pineapple's world we are just living in it. Not my first or last visit, definitely recommend! read more

Update! Just tried Bella's again and despite some disgruntled patrons this place remains a strong contender for some of the best Italian food in Boone. I happen to put Boca Bistro in front but they aren't open on Tuesdays. My guests that joined us really enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan and the Lasagna. We enjoyed the ravioli and eggplant also. Two nights ago, my family and I were in Boone and decided to try Bella's as we have only ever eaten at their Banner Elk location, which quickly proved to be a mistake. We arrived as the UNC and Duke basketball game was finishing, and I only know this because I asked our server what the ruckus behind the bar was about. The bartender, a middle aged gentleman, was shouting profanity so loud at the tv, that we could hear it from the other room. At first we understood, basketball games can get tense, but as it continued we realized that this was more than typical game-time tensions. The things we heard were absolutely unacceptable coming from staff and what seemed to be his friends at the bar. The servers appeared to be incredibly bothered by his behavior, especially because we were not the only table to inquire about the situation. While this didn't deter us from eating there last night, it definitely will in the future. If you're looking for a more professional environment, I would recommend their Banner Elk location...the difference is worth the drive! Do better! Adults should not be acting this way!! read more

What a great surprise. Got our daughter settled in to App state and we decided we wanted Italian. It may be in a strip mall but it so cute inside and the food is great. My side salad was huge and so fresh especially the homemade ranch. I had chicken Picatta with fettuccine with tomato sauce and it was amazing and 3 meals worth. Garlic rolls came with as well and so yummy. My husband got the Veal Parm and was very impressed. Everything was amazing. This place is now going to be a must stop each time we visit. read more

Bella's is one of my favorite restaurants. The pizza is delicious and the slices are huge. The salads are great with blackened or grilled chicken or shrimp. The shrimp are huge. I just tried the Chicken Piccata and it is my new favorite. The owner and staff are amazing. Just a great restaurant overall. Don't believe the bad reviews. Ok so I'm convinced Boone doesn't have a decent restaurant in town. This place is for senior citizens who have no clue what good Italian food is, because it was pretty bad. The inside is dark and gloomy and it feels like you're about to be served some subpar food. We should have left, but we thought we'd give them a shot since the reviews claimed they were good. WRONG! I ordered the Tortellini Carbonara which I knew going in it was not REAL carbonara. Real Carbonara is not a "cream sauce" it's made with with eggs, hard cheese, cured pork, and black pepper. They also overcooked the hell out of the tortellini, it was complete mush! Falling apart and very unappetizing. The Chicken Picatta was no better and both dishes were very pale looking absolutely no color or liveliness. The bread was actually good. The end. read more

Bella,s used to have the best pizza in town but the last 2 times the pizza has been way below average. We ordered thin and crispy and got thick and mushy. We've only done takeout pizza from Bella's, but it is always delicious. Their prices are extremely reasonable.

Our first visit to Bella's and it's the real deal! We were out for a drive to see the sunset & decided to try this place out. Our service and food were great! We ordered chick parm and spaghetti with meatballs. Everything was fresh and tasty. Jordan-our server was a delight. She was really helpful during our item choices and just overall pleasant! We ordered cheese sticks and then for the meal I had margherita flatbread and hubby had the half Stromboli. It was huge!! But yummy!! My flatbread was full of moz and ricotta and very tasty!!
