We got there and were taken up to the top attic where it looked like it had been from a hoarder over 100 years. Dirty dim lights, nasty rug and we don't know why they put people up there in the attic to eater were totally looked over- waitresses hardly came up. It lacked flavor, tasted poorly prepared, and was honestly disappointing from the first bite to the last. Casa Rustica was highly recommended, but I'm not sure why! We didn't have reservations, but were seated fairly soon (Wednesday night). The hostess was in the restroom when we walked in we waited about 5 min. I had the chicken parm w/roasted vegetable of the day and my wife had the meat sauce and linguine. I ordered the fresh mozzarella appetizer which I thought was their own mozzarella, breaded and fried, well to my surprise I got $13 mozzarella sticks which was very disappointing. A restaurant with this name & reputation should be ashamed for not being transparent with their menu, there is a big difference between fried mozzarella and sticks! Our server was Lex a nice young man who did an outstanding job, 5 stars for Lex! All the servers appeared to be very good, polite and very helpful with questions about the menu. My wife enjoyed her pasta dish, my chicken parm was awesome! However, the sauce was a little off, tasted like a jarred sauce, not terrible but I've had better quality Italian restaurant tomato sauce. I didn't eat any bread, but they provided a basket w/baguette and a a few very pale looking rolls that appeared to be previously frozen. I did have the French onion crock which was ok, I wouldn't order it again. We each had a martini prior to dinner and that may have been the best part of the meal. There was a table of 6 sitting very close to us and they were all looking at their phones and watching videos with the volume very loud, not the restaurants fault but they should have stepped in and politely asked their guests to turn down the volume so not to disturb the other guests, but that didn't happen! I might try Casa Rustica again but doubtful. Bocca Bistro is my 1st choice for Italian when I am in Boone. read more

The salad, soup, chicken parm, and veal piccata were out of this world. The owner needs to keep the chef/s happy! Non-greasy, perfectly tender, chicken; egg dipped and tasty. We are from out of town and were recommended this place and the sweet ladies at the front made it work for us to sit immediately (we didn't realize it was reservation only)! Poor to mediocre. Had a reservation but didn't need it as place was nearly empty. Server was a nice college girl who was mostly unfamiliar with the menu. Husband's roasted vegetable soup was pretty good, as was the caprese stack. Otherwise the penne vodka tasted like it came from a jar. Chicken marsala did not taste at all of marsala -- gloppy, sweet, slapped on with a few mushroom slices. Sent the creme brulee back because the 'crust' was so soft. Overall really disappointing. Surely there is better Italian in the area and we'll look for it next trip. read more

We have eaten here many times and have enjoyed it. Tonight, however, was horrible. We brought some new friends and were very embarrassed. We ordered drinks that took over 20 minutes to arrive and then one of them was missing. We had to remind the server about the last drink. The salads were then delivered while we just got our drinks. Then we waited another 40 minutes for our entrees to arrive. When they did, they were lukewarm at best. Throughout all of this, our waters were never checked or filled. On top of this, one of the orders was incorrect. Truly a poor experience. We will not return. Then, my husband ordered the dinner special salmon that was supposed to be pistachio crusted for $34. There wasn't a pistachio anywhere on the plate, it was just plain with beet sauce and goat cheese on the side. Not a pretty plate. Lastly, the server never offered us dessert. UGH!! It started off bad and ending up good. We went in on a weekday and it wasn't busy at all. I did make a reservation, it was highly suggested and it wasn't a problem getting one for the same evening. The hostess was very pleasant. The problem was when we were seated. Every waiter/ waitress walked passed us as if we were invisible. I wanted ti leave but the other half of my party wanted to wait it out. It took me asking for a waiter to receive one. Our waitress was nice and apologized, she mentioned that no one told her we were seated but I saw her look at us multiple times and there was no acknowledgment. We ordered the fried combo which included fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and fried calamari. It came with 3 sauces, ranch, honey mustard and marinara. All were great compliments especially the ranch. I ordered the manicotti with a side of meatballs. It came with a house salad and the table was given a bread basket. The bread was fresh and delicious. I loved the accompanying balsamic vinegar and herb oil. The house salad was very fresh and nice palate cleanser. The manicotti is something I would order again. I was expecting the traditional pasta noodle manicotti but it was a crepe. Different and something I wouldn't order again. The homemade meatballs were delicious. Flavorful. We added dessert the seasonal maple crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was a nice touch but it had many cold spots throughout. The dining area has dim lighting which gives a nice seating for smooth conversation and a nice ambiance. Overall the food was better than I expected minus the manicotti and us being ignored upon entering. read more

The food, service, and ambiance were amazing. We almost got the stuffed mushrooms because they sounded so good, but we decided on the arancinis. Wow! Very delicious. I had the chicken florentine over angel hair pasta and salad with the sweet basil vinaigrette dressing. My husband had the chicken marsala over linguine and salad. We were both very impressed. For dessert, I had the cannoli and he had the cheesecake with strawberry topping, also excellent. By that time we were stuffed and happy. Our server was attentive and more than competent. The building looks like a log cabin and has low lighting and black tablecloths, giving it an old-world Italian feel. Note that there's an upstairs dining area requiring a lot of steps, so you may need to request ground floor seating in your reservation based on your physical needs. We wore jeans and nice shirts, but there were people dressed nicer and also more casual than us. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Boone. read more

We started our trip to Boone with dinner at Casa Rustica. We were scrambling for dinner reservations (we found out this was one of Boone's busiest weekends of the year once we got there ‍), and Casa Rustica was one of the only places who could take us. Boy are we glad they did! Not only was their customer service excellent squeezing us in with four adults and two toddlers, the quaint little atmosphere should have been a sign of the authentic Italian cuisine that was to come. We started with a fried appetizer sampler (we were starving ) that included fried calamari, zucchini, mozzarella, and mushrooms. All that fried food can get muddled but each item was accompanied with its own sauce which helped balance everything out. We also had the hand made meatballs which were out of this world good. I opted for the chicken and dumplings to preface my meal and talk about a flavor bomb. Hands down the best chicken and dumplings I've had to date. They were seasoned to perfection and the peppery flavor sent it over the top. For an entree I had the Dijon chicken which consisted of chicken medallions, sun dried tomatoes, and penne in a Dijon cream sauce. Tangy and creamy - perfection! Unfortunately, not pictured are the complimentary garlic bread and my husband's Ribeye (go go having kids ) but those were excellent as well! This was to be our date night. We had reservations so we were seated quickly. The log cabin atmosphere and table settings weren't romance-worthy. My husband's french onion soup had no depth of flavor, so he barely touched it. He chose the chicken dijon for his entrée. I had the pasta creations option and went with fettuccine, alfredo sauce, seared scallops and shrimp. Both dishes required us to add parm cheese, salt & pepper. My scallops were NOT seared (ugh). I thought about adding mushrooms to mine but was glad I didn't when I saw the mushrooms the restaurant used in my hubby's entrée were button mushrooms. We only stay in Boone 7-10 days per year but even we know the farmers market has two prominent mushroom vendors offering oyster, lion's mane, pioppino, chestnut, etc., mushrooms in abundance that would actually enhance the flavors of the dish. The fresh pasta was really what made these dishes edible, but we still left at least half our dishes behind when we departed because portions are too big. Tiramisu dessert was okay. Our server was alright, but her shortcomings were apparent since a much better server was in the same room as her (bringing food quickly to people that were seated after us, checking on the need for seasonings or drink refills, if dessert was wanted, or the bill). Note for owners/management: make portions appropriate (so 90% of people we watched leave weren't taking to-go containers); instead, make realistic portions with quality, local ingredients that taste desirable. read more

We have been coming to Casa Rustica for many years. A few years ago we began bringing my parents. Tonight we had another amazing meal there. The caprese stack salad was the best my parents have had. For the first time we had the shrimp cocktail. I thought my husband was going to drink the cocktail sauce it was so good. One of the specials was the Delmonico steak - wow, it was flavorful and tender, best steak in the high country. The lasagna is one of our family favorites, you cannot miss it, both the meat sauce and marinara sauce are excellent. The staff are superb and led by the one and only Christy who is a true professional. we cannot recommend Casa Rustica enough. read more

Really nice find in Boone near Appalachian State college campus. Good Italian and great service and easy location combine for a nice experience all around. FOOD: Four of the 5 in my party got salmon on a bed of greens and all unanimously agreed it was quite good. My eggplant parmigiana was terrific and even though breaded and fried, it was worth the extra minutes on the Stairmaster to work it off. They always offer substitutes for pasta (steamed broccoli etc) if you want to limit carbs. Caprese salad starter was great too. SERVICE: I think after years of often attitudinal service in Manhattan and Miami, I get surprised easily by very friendly, cheerful plus helpful waitstaff. Lauren our server was very sweet, very helpful and got it just right on the number of check-ins to see all was good. LOCATION: It's particularly convenient if you're going to any sort of event at Schaefer Center on Appalachian State's Campus. Our meal was fantastic. The waitress, top notch. Only complaint was the time it took to get our food. We booked a reservation for 6:45 and didn't receive the bill until 8:20. We ordered our dessert to go it took so long. We had kids with us so we weren't looking to spend so long. We ordered to-go food for people waiting at home and that came out faster than our meal. After a disastrous experience on our last visit I can say with conviction that our dinner last night, from the greeting at the door to our very capable, knowledgeable and very personable server Allie, was back to the high standards that Casa Rustica is known for. The restaurant was quite busy even on a Thursday evening but we never felt rushed or overlooked. Allie (along with her trainee Ayana in tow) timed and delivered our cocktails and meal at just the right tempo allowing us time to enjoy each course. The food was hot, plentiful and most delicious. I have been in the hospitality industry for more years than I'd care to share (server, manager and front of house server trainer) so I appreciated that the staff worked the dining room as a unit. No one walked past a table without filling water glasses or removing empty dishes from any table whether it was their "station" or not. Kudos to staff and management in this area. It makes for a most enjoyable experience for all their guests. Yes every business and employee can have an "off night" but the owner/manager at Casa Rustica made sure to assure us that our visit from that week ago one would be at their customary standards and it most certainly was. My husband and I ate at Casa Rustica last night and it was absolutely delightful! We had a 5:30 reservation (cough...having a newborn makes you old) and the place was fairly empty so we felt super safe during these covid times. We started with a bottle of chianti that was very reasonably priced. We settled on the bruschetta for an app. My husband got the delmonico steak with broccoli and ceasar salad and I got the veal marsala with squash and the caprese salad. The appetizer was delicious and a huge portion. The steak was perfectly cooked and the food winner for the night. Both veggie sides were really flavorful and seasoned well. My marsala was so tasty and had 2 huge pieces of veal! Service was spot on. Overall, 10 out of 10 date night spot! read more
