The only complaint is that they can only do thin slices where I prefer thicker ones (such a first world problem ). Strict Boy was the first thing that came up when I googled bakeries around Boone. We couldn't make it our first stop since it was closed on Sunday, but made sure to come back the following day. There were so many options which made it impossible to limit what we bought. I thought all the pastries were good but on the colder side. But they still maintained their moistness and crisp. We liked the twice baked almond croissant, the morning bun, the spinach cheddar scone and the cinnamon roll. We also got a large chocolate peanut butter pie that came frozen but was super easy to defrost a few hours before dinner. Such a pleasure finding a bakery that's open later than usual. We popped in on the hunt for sourdough bread to accompany our dinner for the night. We were pleasantly surprised and delighted to choose from an assortment of pastries as well! We decided to try the chocolate cake, carrot cake and a raspberry macaron. The cakes both went quickly as did the sourdough! My oldest kiddo is holding out on eating her macaron but I can update her opinion on it later, There was a bit of a line but we were served quickly and the staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable about their products. It seems like a popular place and close to the university. Stopped by Stick Boy on Saturday morning to pick-up some breakfast for some volunteers doing Hurricane Helene clean-up. The counter is u-shaped with the pastries along the back, beverages to the left, and breads to the right. A small issue was that there wasn't a clear line. Folks would come in and head back to the pastries or line up right at the register and then no one really knew who was next. I guess it was kind of an honor system because the staff would just say "who's next?" and whoever stepped up first was taken care of. I resisted getting one of everything in the pastry case but I got plenty. All of the rolls/buns (cinnamon, cinnamon with cream cheese, sticky, sticky with nuts and raisins, one of each of their scones, and some muffins (blueberry and everything). I also got an iced chai latte. Everything was delicious. I tasted the cinnamon roll and it was pillowy soft with that wonderful cinnamon, sugar, butter combo between the swirls. My chai latte was topnotch as well. The gentleman who pulled my order together and checked me out had perfect customer service, very kind, conversational while still being efficient. Visiting from Cincinnati, a friend had me try some of the rosemary olive bread at her house, so I knew I had to make a stop. I bought a pumpkin seed, cranberry loaf, molasses cookie, the molasses porter gingerbread loaf and a loaf of sourdough to take home with me. Service was quick and happily sliced my loaves. What a great spot in Boone to find the best lattes, local herbal teas, a window where their fresh bread and pastries are being prepared and you can see all the action! This place reminds me of my college days, and if I lived here and had the means, I'd come every week- just the coziest small town, hippy and happy, come as you are, good smelling, welcoming vibe I've experienced in a while. Coulda been saved a little if there was more icing. But there must be an icing shortage because there was nearly none on the rolls. Latte was just ok. Great bakery located across the street fro App State campus. Virtually no seating. Only 10 parking spots. This is an actual bakery, not a Starbucks. Walk across from campus and buy something to go.
