Dare I say these are THE BEST cookies I have ever had in my life. I was skeptical, even after…read morereading reviews because I tend to find people overhype things and I'm let down. There was no overhyping here, these are very appropriately hyped. We told ourselves all week we would stop in and try Appalachia Cookie Co. It wasn't until the last day of our vacation, post Grandfather Mountain hike, that we finally made it in to get a box to go. Oh, how I wish we had come a lot earlier in the week. First, I ordered a Toasted Marshmallow Iced Latte. I had a really good feeling about it once I saw all their coffee syrups are homemade in house. My feeling was correct. It was by far, the best coffee I'd had all week, and I had tried multiple places in the area by this point. I so wish I would've come by sooner! There are so many coffee combinations I would've loved to try. I don't think I've ever drank an iced coffee so fast. It really was that good. Then... the cookies. First, they all looked amazing. I really appreciate the way they have them displayed and labeled so you can properly assess before placing your order. I was so surprised to learn that they bake as ordered. So, be mindful you will have a wait, but I assure you that wait is well worth it. There were so many cookies we wanted to try, but we behaved and limited ourselves to just six. We chose the blueberry white chocolate oatmeal, cookies and cream, smores, frosted animal cookie, honey peanut butter, and a sugar. While they were all great, the Campfire Smores was a real stand out and by far my favorite! The worst part is that I live in Texas, and for now will only be able to dream about how good they were. I did see certain flavors can be ordered online for shipping though, so if I get desperate enough it's nice to know I can still get my fix from a thousand miles away!

I am torn about writing this review. The concept of hot fresh baked cookies, but waiting 15 minutes…read moremight be okay if the workers were paying attention and it was actually the 15 minutes predicted. The girl behind the counter last Friday was on her phone the entire time. While we waited for our cookies, there was one girl who came up after having waited 30 minutes because the front of house girl didn't get off her phone and go back into the kitchen to see her cookies were ready. Every other people in front of us had to ask if theirs was mere ready. After 20 minutes we finally ask about ours and they were ready but she just hadn't gone back to get them. The system between front of house and back of house needs work so someone is bring the ready cookies rather than front of house having to check on them. The other issues we had were with my husband's mocha. Either there was poor training that flavored coffees need the syrup stirred in to the espresso before adding the milk, or this worker was too careless and needs to be asked to pay more attention. All that being said the cookies were very delicious! We walked away ready to write off this place, but the cookies were in fact great. I appreciate having a vegan option and my husband's classic chocolate chip was great.

I have mixed feelings about this place…read more We stumbled upon this place while walking down sides streets, after having a not so great breakfast elsewhere. It looked really cute and funky and I was looking to get a coffee to go. I noticed a small building that looked like a bakery and indeed had bakery goods and cupcakes inside. I went in, hoping to get a coffee and a cupcake. There was someone working behind the counter but she never looked up or said a thing to me. I thought maybe I shouldn't have been there, so I left. We went inside the building and finally someone asked if they could help us and they did go get me a coffee. We noticed there was a bar inside the larger building and my husband started chatting up the woman there (who I'm 99% sure was the owner) but she was super bitchy and not having any part of the conversation. That was enough for me (you don't me around? fine, I'll stay away) but for some reason my husband really found that bar charming and a few days later we went back. Luckily for us, Patrick was bartending that night! He was super friendly, and we spent the evening chatting with him. The drinks were good, and we did order dinner that we both enjoyed. He really made the night a fun one. If I was back in the area, we'd probably stop back in, and hope Patrick was working!

Like others have mentioned, the woman who answered was very rude and with an attitude. This was the conversation: "hi, is this the cupcrazed cafe in blowing rock?" "how can I help you" "what are your hours today?" "we're not open" "so are you guys permanently closed?" "We're not open" "okay, what time do you guys open?" "we're not open this weekend" "okay bye bye". For whatever reason, they don't want customers, and they don't want people to know when they're open. Wild if people think they can run a restaurant that way. You couldn't pay me to go there now

Yelp needs to add another 5 star option, for those businesses that are outstanding in every single…read moreway. Flavia's would definitely rate 10 stars. This pastry business is located in a tiny cottage, think She Shed, on a small side street in downtown Blowing Rock. Everything was nicely labeled and priced but there were names I hadn't heard before. Julie was very informative and kindly answered all of our, "Ooooh, what's that?" questions. We were torn between a couple of items, so like any sensible person, we bought both. She told us to eat them at room temperature for best enjoyment. She said the "Crème" is homemade puff pastry with a thick layer of Mousseline Cream. That means they take their crème patisserie and then add silky butter. Is your mouth watering yet? We each got a Crème and a Cream Puff. We ate the Crème first and sweet mother of all things delicious, it was otherworldly. We immediately prayed that the Puff would have the same filling. It did. When we go back next year, I'll be getting a treat for everyday we are there. TIP #1: Beware Donna. She was in the next store Serves You Right. She offered to take our pink pastry box. Everyone in BR is so nice, we thought she was being helpful so we could shop. Then we saw the humorous glint in her eyes! Pastry Thief! LOL! Donna and Karen told us that Julie is the daughter and her mother is from Germany. The mom makes everything in Hickory and they drive it up fresh every day. They raved about everything! TIP #2: They are closed every Wednesday, so plan ahead.

We were so excited for the key lime cheesecake, however we're incredibly disappointed. The meringue…read moretasted pretty good, however it did break and was drippy, but the real issue was the cheesecake. It was just a regular block of plain cheesecake. In the very center was a small hint of key lime flavor, but this was definitely not a "key lime cheesecake". We ended up throwing most of it away, which was a bummer for $14. Everything looked really good, but maybe something else would have been a better pick.
