'Twas so good, had to go back a second time for lunch. The warmest & kindest staff, always smiling while serving up some delicious delights. Tried as many menu items as I possible could. Wish I could try more... Monte Cristo Sandwich Made with the most incredible & unbelievable house made bread, served with house made jam. An absolute treat. Blueberry French toast Thick cuts of the same unbelievable house made bread cooked to perfection on the griddle. A delightful crispy crunch on top, soft & delicious on the inside. Egg Sandwich... with bacon Creamy scrambled eggs, thick cuts of bacon, cheese and the most incredible house made mayo aioli. Came to the mountains for a weekend get away and found this spot for breakfast. They did not disappoint. Their menu is not your 'typical' standard orders but each plate has a nice spin on some amazing meals BURSTING with flavor. I had the Turkish Eggs and hubs ordered the Foxy Scramble and wow! We were both pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food (soft bread, warm pita, unique infused flavors). Highly recommend a visit to this spot if you're in the area. This place is a gem. We ordered the matcha with oat milk (Planet Oat), latte, and a vanilla steamer with earl grey with oat milk. The matcha was too milky (not enough matcha, see pic). This is very small and quaint coffee shop that happens to make some breakfast items as well. The food portion isn't on a menu as it changes all the time. They locally source and today was waffle Wednesday. I don't order waffles often, but it seemed like the way to go since it was waffle Wednesday. I'm very glad I did as it was very good. Slightly crisp and fluffy with confectionery sugar and strawberries on top. I also ordered a cold brew which was very good. The staff was super friendly and helpful when I was trying to figure out what I was going to eat. They have some local sticker art and jewelry that you can purchase along with other items as well. It's very cozy and welcoming here and would definitely consider stopping by again...perhaps on a different day that allows for another random breakfast surprise read more

Stopped in here on a Friday mid morning to finally try this place out. First of all I loved the atmosphere. I loved how intentional and thoughtful the owners are. Clearly they are committed to high quality ingredients, fostering a sense of community and providing an environment in alignment with their values. A lot to love here. However unfortunately there are were a few things that fell short of the expectations we had from reviews and the environment of the cafe. First, the pastry case was fairly empty with just a few unappealing bagels and a couple of cookies. Perhaps if we had gotten there earlier we we might have had a better selection. Secondly, the guy taking orders was either very new or clueless about beverages and taking our order. Someone else came to the rescue, but in all the confusion somethings got lost in translation. The hot chocolate we ordered was perfect, A+! The extra hot vanilla latte was not extra hot, but had way too much vanilla flavoring in it. The coffee also had a strange bitter finish, which we've not experienced with Counter Culture Coffee before. We actually chose to come to this cafe because they have Counter Culture Coffee. The bagged Chai Tea with a splash of heavy cream tasted like about a half a cup of heavy cream. The tea started off creamy and delicious but I couldn't come close to finishing the drink sadly because it had so much heavy cream. We will try this place again and hopefully have an even better experience. read more

Really a special gem of a place. My husband love his egg and cheese bagel with chipotle mayo and bacon. The lattes were amazing and had an oat milk option. Whoa, you have to go on a Tuesday!!! It's just $2 for a pour over coffee. That's a steal for Counter Culture coffee. So smooth, I loved it. And they bake everything in house, so you can't go wrong with whatever you order to go along with the delicious coffee. I tried the ginger molasses cookie, which was chewy and crisp at the same time. I loved the spice in it so much that I ordered another one to go home with me. I also had the English muffin toast with butter and raspberry jam. They served it warm, and it tasted like it came right out of the oven. Melts in your mouth. At the counter, they had samples of the raspberry crumble, and that was good but I was too full, so I ordered a bar to go for later tonight :) As for a more filling breakfast/lunch, you just have to ask what the specials of the day are. Very chill vibe, you can hang out with a couple friends or wrap up some work, as they offer WiFi. Perfect breakfast spot! I hope to visit again soon. read more

They made a delicious iced mocha and seriously the best corn muffin with butter and jam I've ever had. The owners were so nice and you can feel the love put into every detail. My husband wanted a coffee before the drive to black mountain so I went in with him. Initially I decided I didn't want anything but changed my mind when I saw they had masala chai. We also got a dark chocolate espresso cookie. My chai was really good, not as hot as I like but enjoyable nonetheless. My husband liked his chai latte and we both LOVED the cookie! my favorite place in spruce pine, the staff is wonderful and the food and coffee is just as amazing. i always recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard of it. their cookies and bagels are so yummy and fresh but my fave is the english muffin toast topped with veggies. the coffee is great, & during the holidays they have an eggnog latte that is delicious but the rest of the year i love the matcha with maple syrup to sweeten it. i love sitting in there and having a meeting or just getting some work done. im so glad it is a part of our little town. read more

Have a feeling there's an interesting backstory behind this sweet little cafe. It is located along a desolate-seeming stretch of what I believe is the tiny downtown of Spruce Pine, which just 2,000 residents call home. It may appear unassuming, but don't let that fool you. So... This cafe, which appears to make its baked goods in-house, looks like it was put together on a shoestring budget, none of which deters the warm 'n welcoming vibes from shining through. Am willing to wager, it's a valued hub for the community. And what a lucky community it is: Mocha-Stout Cupcake: Typically, I find Cupcakes to be annoying, boring and just a whole lotta fluff, to be honest. More often than not, you wind up with dry cake and sugary, cloying frosting. But this was truly lovely. The cake component was moist and chocolaty, with just the right complexity to add interest from the Stout. A cream cheese icing was the perfect rich, subtly tangy complement. Best of all, it wasn't overly sweet. Peanut Butter Cookie: Liked this chewy, nutty disk of deliciousness, sprinkled ever so artfully with coarse salt, even more than the Cupcake. Again, I really appreciated the light hand with sugar, allowing the peanut flavor to shine through. If you care about such things, I *think* it was even gluten-free. Hubby's Coffee and the Matcha Lemonade that both the kid and I ordered were similarly thoughtfully-crafted. Looking back on my experience here, I've found myself drawing parallels to a certain Brooklyn Bakery, renowned for its Chocolate Blackout Layer Cake, made with Stout, and also its flour-less PB Cookie. Can I just declare that I far prefer the counterparts from this spot? And frankly, dare I add, even if you happen to be a Fox, I don't give a Fig as to what you have say about it.:) ps Should you be en route to Linville Falls and / or Caverns, or returning from there, this makes for a perfect l'il pit stop. What a cute lil' cafe - we came for breakfast but didnt realize they only did brunch entrees on Saturdays so I was disappointed about that. Then they were all out of bagels by 10:30am so we ended up getting the lunch sandwich...it wasnt our first choice but boy was it a good choice. The turkey sandwich was delicious...my hubs told me to revise that and say it was VERY delicious. They layered it so expertly that not a single tomato, avo or mayo squished out with any bite til the end! It really was an awesome sandwich so we were pleasantly surprised.
