Camp Coffee Roasters has a cozy vibe and an obvious appreciation for the outdoors. It might have something to do with their neighbors; Footloggers, an outdoor store. Be sure to climb the stairs near the front door of the coffee shop. They lead to a loft, overlooking Footloggers, where you can relax in a wing back chair or get some work done at a table near a window. The barista was friendly and made a respectable cortado. So of course, since I'm in the area on vacation, I'm going there are much as possible! The place is quiet and unassuming- looks like a warehouse... Until you step inside and that smell of deliciousness hits you right in the face, soooo good!! In the past week, I have tried all of the specialty drinks on the menu- the Hot Tamale was especially surprisingly delightful- not too much spice, just a nice warmth. The Cold Mountain was also amazing, to me, it was the perfect iced coffee. The special this week was the Iced Coconut- it actually really tasted like coconut!My husband tried the drip and pour over- he's a black coffee drinker and loved them both- he loved that you can select different beans to try. I also purchased a 5 pound bag of my favorite bean- the Parkway Pick Me Up. Also love the Squirrely Blend. We also got the smaller 12oz bags to try a few different flavors when we get home. This place is the best. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

The espresso held up nicely over ice, and the hot honey brought a subtle sweetness with a gentle kick of heat on the finish. Refreshing, a little bold, and really enjoyable. Between the solid coffee and the nostalgic, gear-filled atmosphere, Bald Guy Brew is a fun stop that's absolutely worth pulling off the road for.

So I was delighted to find this little cafe/ bookshop (The Book Cellar) which even has a tiny garden as well where you can get a cuppa tea, browse the books, sit down and maybe just get some writing done or just collect your thoughts. Folks were very friendly and I had no problems here whatsoever. It's small, very cozy but for little Abingdon, it's just right. I was so happy to find this corner of Abingdon. I may come back to Abingdon in the future for other workshops and if I do, I sure hope this little shop and cafe are still here.

She provided recommendations and shared with me the specials offered at the time. I ordered a custom made beverage, hot Toasted Marshmallow & Butter Cookie latte with oat milk; I topped it with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. It was absolutely delicious. It was the perfect sweet treat to warm me up on chilly winter afternoon. The cafe also featured a very cute book cellar that had the neatest items!! You can definitely tuck-away in this cafe to get work done, you can meet with friends for a coffee date, or even just chill and have a cup of coffee, a pastry and indulge in a nice book. I am so happy I gave Black Powder a try. Their coffees are very good. I have tried 5 different beans/roasts they have all been very good, and they were all roasted just a few days before I bought them. I make a lot of espresso drinks, and bean freshness is a big factor in the quality and flavor with espresso. I may try some other locals here and there, but I am a Black Powder customer for life.
