The honey brought a smooth, natural sweetness that complemented the espresso without overpowering it. It was refreshing, balanced, and incredibly easy to drink. Simple ingredients, done really well. I also had their El Salvador on drip, and it was exactly what I'm looking for in a light roast. Bright, lively, and full of fruity and floral notes without veering into sour territory. Clean finish, expressive aromatics, and beautifully brewed. Between the quality of the coffee and the clarity of flavor in both drinks, Hatchet clearly knows what they're doing. Awesome coffee shop! I came here originally before climbing at C45 right next door, but the line was so long I decided to stop by on my way out of town instead. I had an iced coffee and orange cranberry scone. I sat down and read for a bit while enjoying the drink and food. It's so light and vibrant in here, they also have a good small merch section with local artists/vendors up front that's fun to peruse. I'm a little bummed that my wife wanted to drive onwards this morning after we got coffee because this looks like an amazing spot to sit and laptop for a couple of hours. This coffee shop is bright and open space. They have a pretty good selection of coffee and tea and even hot chocolate! I got the warm hug latte, and it smells and tastes of cinnamon and warmth, delicious! The hot chocolate was rich, creamy, and chocolatey ( all of the key ingredients in a great hot chocolate). They also serve burritos ( breakfast and lunch), avocado toast, and a variety of baked goods. It is a busy place! The entire time we were there, people were constantly coming in. Here it is. My Hatchet review. I almost decided not to leave a review simply because I couldn't put 6 billion stars. I can only do 5 but it'll have to do. This is my favorite coffee shop on Earth and I'm sad I live in another state aka hell (it's Texas). I'd visit Boone just for some Hatchet Coffee if Boone wasn't already the most mad litty place on the map. Every single pinche beverage from this place that has graced my lips was absolutely divine. And they have some weird shit. Tell me how you make a watermelon matcha nitro taste good? Their nitro cold brews are hand infused by the gods. Either that or they do some dark magic on those coffee beans that makes your taste buds feel like they're tingling. I love espresso more but I hadn't tried their espresso till recently. I got a hot mountain top mocha (seasonal) and I ascended to space. I'm not kidding. I saw god for a moment. Then I came back and finished the rest. It was like Ego trying the ratatouille for the first time. They're mad scientists roasting those beans with love back there. Also, every barista looks like the coolest person I've ever met. Super kind too. OH AND DID I MENTION they make their own syrups (or at least it looks like it). This is the best coffee shop in boone! Although it's far from campus, it's great to meet up with groups to get work done or just to spend time together. They have seasonal drinks as well as their classics which you can never go wrong either way! It took me a several days visiting to find the best coffee shop in the Boone/blowing rock area(and possibly beyond) but my search ended here. Hatchet coffee is the real deal. The staff seems very knowledgeable and the coffee was very good. I liked the coffee so much I ended up buying a shirt and beans as well. I went back here every chance I could. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the drinks are very fairly priced. My drink of choice was a cappuccino which was delicious every time. I also tried an iced latte which was also very good. If anyone is looking for a regular spot to have good coffee and hangout, hatchet is the one. Cute coffee / food spot in the Boone area. I appreciated the fact that it was a touch outside of town and situated next to a lot with ample, easy parking. The interior of the space is large, open, and a nice blend between trendy and lovely. There was a bit of a line when I stopped in on a Saturday morning, but the line wraps through a space where you can peruse an assortment of local items like cards, jewelry, artwork, etc., as well as branded items from Hatchet (mugs, bags of whole bean coffee, etc.). There was a nice selection of items to choose from on the menu. Coffee beverages, teas, and lots of breakfast/brunch/lunch-type bites to eat. There was also a unique seasonal menu with four different fall beverages, which is what I went for. The Smashing Pumpkin Nitro was pretty much everything I was hoping for. House-made pumpkin sauce in a nitro draft latte topped with salted maple cold foam. Such an elevated version of Starbuck's Pumpkin Cream Cold brew. The nitro was outstanding -- smooth, strong, and would be delicious in a number of different beverages. They also had a Smashing Pumpkin Latte (house-made pumpkin spice sauce, espresso, milk, topped with roasted maple marshmallow), Witching Hour (brew of chai, pomegranate, and apple cider garnished with dried orange), and Heritage Harvest (draft nitro latte with local goat's milk caramel, topped with flakey smoked salt and charred cinnamon stick). Honestly, they all sounded amazing, and I would love to try each and every one. One little thing to be aware of: the price is really high, even by local coffee shop standards. My 16oz Smashing Pumpkin Nitro cost me close to $8 for the coffee alone. It would be a struggle to make Hatchet a frequent go-to if I were local to the area. This place feels geared more towards being an experience stop: perfect for someone passing through the area on a vacation or day trip looking to experience something unique and special in the Boone area, or perfect for an occasional treat if you're local to this part of NC. read more

I don't have too much to say since the inside isn't opened to the public but they are doing a wonderful job keeping people comfortable while they wait outside. They have heating lamps outside for you to stand by while they quickly make your order. I ordered a mocha nitro because my friend described it as chocolate milk but coffee and she wasn't wrong. Man, I am a sucker for a good coffee shop. Hatchet is at the top of my list for a return visit to Boone. COFFEE DRINKS: I tried a few, as we were there for a while. The seasonal cortado was my first choice. It's spicy and STRONG. Filled with brown sugary goodness. It has notes of chocolate and orange, and it's served with am orange peel for presentation. I tried the Abuelita second. It was a nod to a classic Mexican hot chocolate. Spicy with cinnamon, sweet with chocolate. It was topped with black salt for a really nice salty/sweet contrast. Finally, I ordered the Drops of Juniper hot latte. There was a cold brew version of this drink, as well. House-made juniper white chocolate syrup makes this drink a sweet winter winner! It's just enough juniper to taste floral, but not even nearly enough to give it that perfume-y taste. FOOD: go for food with the avocado toast. Topped with micro-greens, hemp hearts and SESAME OIL (!!!!!!!!!), the thick-Cut toast and fresh avocado makes a perfect marriage. Meow. We also tried bc the sweet potato biscuit, which was so interesting. There was a cabbage slaw that was citrus y and salty. The biscuit itself was perfect and yummy. There b was a poached egg and a nice sauce on it, as well. EXPERIENCE: the staff here was so kind and patient. They are knowledgeable about what's in their food and drink. The art on the walls is amazing and clean. The artists who painted the walls were actually sitting inside the coffee shop while we were there! It's all very local, fresh and lovely. It's a great coffee shop, one star taken because they gave me a cold drink when I ordered hot. One star taken because regular sweet drink is overly sweet, usually sweetener is something customer can add more but can't take away so surprised.
