At the recommendation of one of the knowledgeable baristas, I ordered the maple cardamom latte, and it absolutely delivered. The maple brought a warm, natural sweetness, while the cardamom added a subtle aromatic spice that made the whole drink feel layered and intentional. It was comforting without being heavy. That paired perfectly with a cinnamon orange white chocolate scone -- bright citrus notes, gentle spice, and just enough sweetness from the white chocolate to tie it all together. The flavors played off the latte beautifully. I finished with an amaretto latte, which was strong on the nose with that classic almond aroma, yet surprisingly smooth and easy on the palate. Bold but balanced -- a great way to end the visit. Great coffee, thoughtful flavor combinations, and baristas who know their craft. Espresso News is absolutely worth a stop when you're in Boone.

The coffee was weak, and one family member ordered one of the specialty coffees and really didn't like it. We simply asked if we could swap it for a different coffee, but instead of trying to accommodate us, we were given a hard time about it. For a family that had just ordered eight coffees, I thought that was unnecessary and poor customer service. On top of that, the muffin we ordered was frozen. I know places can have an off day, but between the weak coffee, frozen muffin, and the way our simple request was handled, this was not the experience we expected. So I was delighted to find this little cafe/ bookshop (The Book Cellar) which even has a tiny garden as well where you can get a cuppa tea, browse the books, sit down and maybe just get some writing done or just collect your thoughts. Folks were very friendly and I had no problems here whatsoever. It's small, very cozy but for little Abingdon, it's just right. I was so happy to find this corner of Abingdon. I may come back to Abingdon in the future for other workshops and if I do, I sure hope this little shop and cafe are still here.
