One of my new favorite places in the Boone area when I go. There is no shortage of coffee shops in the Boone/ Blowing Rock area but Mountain Dog offers a little more than average - a dog park and much more. There are small freezers with Sheppard's pie's and other pies as well as cakes and biscuits. The food is a little pricey but they are all hefty meals. The coffee selection is a honest selection of a typical coffee shop but there is a special menu that is separate from the main "traditional" menu. The special menu is a compilation of special drinks (dog inspired). We tried the goldendoodle which was golden milk with chai and it was really good. The staff was quick and helpful and fun to talk with. This place is highly recommended! read more

When on vacation we always find 'mom and pop' coffee shops. After a long day of travel the day before, we woke to get some bagels and coffee. The Asiago bagel was absolutely delicious with plenty of cream cheese. I hate when places skimp on CC. The place is a fun vibe that makes you feel welcomed despite being a tourist stop. Came across this little coffee shop on our way to our hike at Grandfather State Park! The outside was so cute and it immediately drew us in! The worker was so friendly and helpful! The inside is so nice. The furniture is beautiful and it just feels cozy with local art and items for sale and plants. I would definitely love to hang out here. The outside is also so cute and has a dog park for dogs. Lots of pastries and drinks on the menu. I ordered a Nutella croissant and loved it. Full of Nutella in the middle! The only downside is how far away we live from this incredible coffee shop and cafe. It is beautiful and inviting but more importantly has incredible coffee and food! The staff was welcoming and even with a line out the door staff took careful consideration to ring in our order and suggested a different bagel (I had originally ordered a rainbow bagel for my sandwich not realizing it has cherries in it) which made it even better! Additionally, the dog park is well kept, and our daughter and us enjoyed talking with other travelers and watching the dogs (our 14month old daughter especially loved that!) I wish we lived closer to go more frequently but we will be back any chance we get if we are out that way! 10/10 a must stop and enjoy! read more

My dog was permanently banished from the park here. After months of dedicated park sessions my dog had worked hard to establish a good rapport here. He networked week in and week out in this park, building strong relationships with the other dogs. The owner said he's done here. I do want to mention that my dog is colored (dark brown) and I've never heard of any white dogs being exiled from these grounds. The curry chicken salad sandwich tastes like it came from the cooler at the Exxon Mobil off 421 anyway. And wtf is mango chutney. My wife accused me of being gay for ordering it. read more

Young lady and I were actually just driving by and noticed the flag out front that said Mountain Dog Coffee. The reason for the one star is they don't advertise that you have to be a member in order to allow your dog to use the dog park. I didn't find that out till I already spent all the money to buy coffee and breakfast. When I told one of the employees that they should Market that fact they at least agreed with me! Cute local coffee shop and cafe, it was bright and colorful with both indoor and outdoor seating, benches, tables, and high tables. The food was really good. I had the Avocado Toast with an egg. The Aleppo pepper lightly sprinkled on top gave it some great heat without overpowering the perfectly creamy avocado. I would suggest a very light addition of salt to really wake everything up and make it sing. There were several pieces of pickled red onion on top, which I initially just pulled off and stuck out of the way. However, there was a small piece of one, so I tried it. Boy, was I glad I did!! Those onions were amazing and I would've been happy to have a lot more of them. I was initially very happy to see a pot of tea I could take to my table, but unfortunately, I got a tea I really didn't like. They don't carry black, loose leaf, but I bet they'd do really well and pick up even more business, if they did. The staff were professional, courteous, and extremely nice. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to use the dog park, it is members only and you must have proof of vaccination for the membership. If you are up visiting and looking for a place to let your pup play this makes it much harder since most owners don't carry those records with them.
