This is a great spot to grab some coffee, a pastry, and hang out/study/work! They have so many seasonal options. I got the Primrose Shuffle latte, which had blueberry, lavender, and maple. It was super tasty with the perfect amount of sweetness and I got the lavender and maple essence, but not so much the blueberry. I also got a Parmesan pepper danish, which was decent- honestly it looked cool so I was intrigued haha. There are a lot of different types of seating options (darker/natural light, sofas, wooden benches, bar-type, regular tables) so ambiance is great. Service was fast & friendly. Modest from the outside bit, comfortable on the inside, this was a space meant to sit and relax, but I didn't have a ton of time to do that. I just had time for a drink to go with my breakfast, which turned out to be a fairly generic chai, syrupy and a bit cloying. Coffee Shop No. 494 Kovu's Coffee Boone, NC April 9, 2025 The two best words to describe Kovu's Coffee is cozy and fun. The hubby and I felt like the old folks in the shop. It was full of young people working on their computers and reading books. You have all sorts of seating options to choose from and the shop encourages different hobbies. There's a record room, a stage for performances, a round table to play board games and a pretty decent selection of books in the shelves. We were driving from Burnsville to Wilkesboro and just Googled to find a local coffee shop. We popped in for an iced mocha, and it was absolutely amazing. When we stopped in on a Sunday morning, only one barista was working, so service was rather slow, but that gave me some time to look around. There is tons of seating and different types of lounging areas. They have free wifi, regular table seating, couches, bar seating, and free WiFi. There are numerous rooms, so you can find a private nook as well. There are some games and books for patrons to enjoy as well. As for the coffee, it was incredible. read more

Down and Dirty: fun atmosphere, delicious beverages and friendly staff (including Lily the dog). Probably the best coffee I've had and wish they had this place where I live. WOW! what a gem in Boone! I got the Hot To Go! (hazelnut, chai, banana latte) and it was great. the girl Grace working the front counter was exceptionally nice & slay. a cool spot you can chill, listen to records and sit on a sofa. loved it so much! read more

Anytime we're in Boone we always visit Kovu!! This place is a gem in this small town! They have delicious coffee and a million options, the seasonal menu is always delicious! It's super dog friendly which I love. There have games inside and I usually play the Nintendo switch while my partner works. The staff is above and beyond friendly and kind. We are in town for a wedding and saw this coffee shop on yelp. Perfect reviews, had to come see for ourselves. It lived up to them all! Incredible coffee, wow. The owner was there too and told us about her cute dog Kovu. Everyone in the coffee shop was just delightful, it was overall welcoming and made for a great start to our weekend. One of my favorite spots in the area! Its a small but cozy little coffee shop that gives off 90s vibes and has an awesome record collection. The place is broken up into different rooms and tables so there is a variety of sitting areas. The coffee drinks are great and affordable! Way better than Starbucks in terms of quality and taste. The staff is also very helpful in making a decision on drinks. Overall, great place and can't wait to return soon! read more

Amazing new, little coffee shop right in Boone! Plenty of parking available as well as various styles of coffee to enjoy - drip, espresso, Cubano, americano, cappuccino, latte, and more. They also have matcha and chai teas as well as hot chocolate. There are also some pastries available including blueberry muffins, apple muffins, and bagels (although I'm not sure if the same pastry's are always available). The owner and patrons are all very kind -- I'm here now looking for a charger for my MacBook; while it's been hard to find one in this entire town on a Sunday (that's a story for a different day...) the owner here made several calls within his contacts to try and get me connected. Wow! Above and beyond service! I will definitely be back here again. Cannot wait to take my friends. read more

Adding an update. I normally get hot coffee. Today I decided to get an iced coffee. I didn't realize they use coffee ice cubes instead of normal ice cubes, which waters down the drink as it melts. Very nice! I'll be switching to ice coffees here during the summer. read more

Excellent coffee shop where anyone feels at home. Creative drinks, comfortable seats, with character thats distinct. I always learn something new here as the owner and other shop goers help me refine my political leanings and how anarchy actually is feasible. Phone chargers/usb outlets all over the place and a place to spin your favorite vinyl to while getting in a deep work session. Check them out. Their employee Joel is actually the second coming of Kanye/Bon Iver. This is the only coffee shop to go to in Boone. read more

I wanted to love this coffee shop, it's very cute and has a good selection of unique coffees. It must have been an off day because when we walked in to order coffee we were completely ignored by both baristas for several minutes and there was no line. I work at a coffee shop myself, and the customer service was surprisingly disappointing, especially since the reviews are so good. We were not greeted or even acknowledged by the barista by the register who was apparently too busy taking pictures of a drink to even just say 'hi there, give me a sec, I'll be right with you.' The coffee was good, but overall an ok experience. read more

Clean finish, expressive aromatics, and beautifully brewed. Between the quality of the coffee and the clarity of flavor in both drinks, Hatchet clearly knows what they're doing. The barista greets everyone as they arrive, and asked what fun things they did today. I had the Christmas Morning Micho (decaf) as if was late in the afternoon Delicious. My husband had the Cup of Sweetness (decaf) too. Definitely check this place out if you are in Boone.

There is no shortage of coffee shops in…read morethe Boone/ Blowing Rock area but Mountain Dog offers a little more than average - a dog park and much more. There are small freezers with Sheppard's pie's and other pies as well as cakes and biscuits. The food is a little pricey but they are all hefty meals. The coffee selection is a honest selection of a typical coffee shop but there is a special menu that is separate from the main "traditional" menu. The special menu is a compilation of special drinks (dog inspired). We tried the goldendoodle which was golden milk with chai and it was really good. The staff was quick and helpful and fun to talk with. This place is highly recommended!
